The murderer's mother was held responsible in the end - she paid the ultimate penalty That's bullshit and you know it. The only penalty is to rot in jail and having to face the families of these innocent children that were slayed due to her negligence. She got it pretty easy compared to what all these people affected by this have to deal with the rest of their lives.

Gun control needs to come in the form of penalties. Instead of people non-chalantly storing their guns, make the penalties so stiff for possession of a firearm not in the registered owners hands, especially in the cases where it involves a minor, not a single person would risk letting them out of their safe. That is the only way this is going to work, there are just too many weapons out there for anything other then this to be effective. We are too frequently now not able to hold anyone accountable, so the only way to stop this to make those who would be accountable so scared shitless of the consequences they wouldn't in their right mind allow it to happen. A good case in point is this guy who had his gun in his car, wasn't it even a police officers, and his 3 year old grabbed it and blew his head off. Twenty years in jail, easy trial, it was your gun, your kid had it and killed himself, end of story have fun don't drop the soap. If people want to fire assault weapons to shoot shit and blow shit up.... join the military. Also, I think it's time we engaged our service members in this debate. We glorify war in games and movies, people go to the range thinking they are commando. They might have the most powerful voice in telling how terrible it is to kill someone.

Classy, utilize a horrible tragedy as a political tool; despite the fact that you know nothing about the manner in which this individual obtained his firearms. How did I know I would find this filth on this website? You too Rob. Classless. Excuse me if I'm unapologetic for my statement. It is inarguable that the Republican apparatus has done everything in it's power to derail any sort of gun control in our country. Shall we list the mass shootings in our country recently? This Oregeon Batman guy Of course this is the gem.

I hope you love your guns this much Republicans.

Great to hear! I did make some changes, cleaned up and validated some code. I was still getting some crashing in one of my dev environments so we will keep chasing this as time allows until there are no more complaints.
-
I've seen some of these emails and they have nothing to do with cc.com. It sounds like there was a problem with the Live.com/Hotmail servers. Has anyone had a problem with their browser crashing under a web browser other then IE9? We really want to resolve these problems but are having a hard time pinpointing it.

Which spice are we talking about? Old Spice? Cause there is aluminum in that.

I spent time working indirectly in the vaccine field. I have my own concerns and have certainly gone through some inner conflict on this topic. But I think that armchair scientists have made vaccines an unnecessary target for their ires. Yesterday a study came out looking at Autism rates in relation to pollutant levels where the mother was located during embryonic development. They found those living closer to a freeway were more likely to be diagnosed with autism. Duh. People by nature need to place blame, and it's a whole lot easier to blame a company then themselves. Every minute we as inhabiters of this planet dump millions of tons of harmful chemical and gases into the ecosystem and go along our merrily way, kicking the can down the road, ignoring what harm we are doing to not only ourselves but to every other innocent creature on this planet. I left science for many reasons, but a large one was I didn't see the point in a cabinet full of chemicals that once released into the wild would kill more people then I was trying to help.

We've added a different form of advertising on a few forums for logged in users, however, we have removed the top ad on the entire site so there is actually a net decrease in ads for logged in users. We will make changes as we test the effectiveness of different strategies, and we will certainly can the ones that don't work. As a publisher running advertising is a tough deal. On one hand you have to do them effectively, which means making sure they are visible to your visitors and that get clicked, otherwise you don't make money, money which we use to pay to run the site. On the other hand, you have place your ads in such a manner that isn't obtrusive and obnoxious to the user. We've always been very conservative when dealing with ads so don't expect to see much more.

I can't speak to Rove's standards, but this poll will never be statistically significant. Here's why: Sample is not random Respondents are self-selecting You can only respond if you are logged in Otherwise the sample size is just about large enough (you only need 40 people to be statistically significant). This is not to say that the poll is useless- au contraire. If you want to know the opinions of those people who are logged in AND read the thread AND care enough to respond, then you're well on your way to gathering meaningful information. We can get into Bayesian theory later. Congrats, Fromage, you are the unofficial cc.com statistician. I only wanted the opinion of those logged in who write TRs. If people can't click on a yes or no they don't care enough if there is an ad. There does seem to be a significant number of people who don't want us to do this. Maybe if you can drop me a PM with why you feel this way, and no worries no offense will be taken on your opinion, we just want to do what is best.
-
Is this statistically significant by Carl Rove standards yet?
-
We'll use a less oppressive ad format for the TRs then you are currently seeing in spray.
-
As a logged in user you should only see it in the spray forum, see this post.

I want to preface this post that we here at cc.com have been huge advocates for our local retailers since the beginning and always encourage you to spend you money there when it makes sense. Please support cc.com's sponsors when you can. These guys work really hard and are in a very competitive sphere. So that said most of you probably shop online. Today I'd like to show you a fun project that I've been working on that I think you peeps might really like. For the last few months I've been playing around with ideas on how to find the best deals on gear when you decide to shop online. And here it is what I came up with. http://cascadeoutside.com What I love about this is that it is fast and displays all the information you need in one screen. It also works on your mobile device. And with the help of some magic it is fast as hell. There are other sources for reviews, but I don't think anything beats this as far as getting prices. As you may know we have another price tool here which uses the same set of data. The problem I found from a developer standpoint was that it is really hard to get a bunch of products to align into one price comparison, so you are left with doing some work to figure out the best price. When you are getting data from 50 different shops they all name things differently. It's a difficult problem that I can't solve; at Amazon there is a huge team that works on this very thing. When I was working on the Trip Report search tool, which uses a similar front end, a light bulb went off that this same interface might work for searching for gear prices. The thinking goes that instead of writing a bunch of code to figure out how to get the right comparison, why not use the best computer there is: your brain. I spent the last couple weeks building this out and I'm pretty happy. I'm sure MS Excel users will feel right at home. If not, I have a couple examples and tutorials. If you are still stuck I'd love your feedback on it. If you really like this I'd love it if you liked it on Facebook and/or Google+ and told your friends about. And yes when you use this you help out cc.com. If it's not obvious we are really investing a lot time and money in making this place better; it kind of deserves it! A few features I will be adding in the near feature: Local retailer sale items Use of the OR operator and other advanced search syntax. Review Rating Summaries Price change notifications

There is nothing wrong with people lurking and in the past they see about the same advertising. We aren't trying to punish lurkers, but hopefully this will encourage some to register and login which many steps closer to posting. The idea is if we are going to distribute the advertising those who are contributing should see the least.
