Did anyone hear Rove's comments from yesterday? From what I heard, the administration wants to leave the honoring of gay unions up to the states (as do several states for hetero domestic partners)but they definately want a constitutional amendment clarifying that a "marriage" is strictly between a man and woman. Fucking great, we will now have fundamental christian values in the cosntitution. This of course keeps the republican backing by the chritian conservatives, but appeals to the moderates. What a fucking joke. As I told a friend last week, finding a silver lining in Shrub being re-sel, I mean elected is easy: I will never again have a moral conundrum, it will be legislated for me.

The vote in Hawaii has traditionally favored incumbents, irrespective of party. That, plus the fact that Hawaii has its first Republican Governor in years has probably contributed to the swing. Here is a link to a recent poll taken in Hawaii showing a dead heat. The economy in Hawaii does favor a strong military, however the economy is growing towards industry (Bio-Tech)that would benefit from Democratic President. Of course, now that Sisu is there, who the hell knows what could happen! Aloha!

I would like to hope that Bush doesn't have a chance. You mention that the get out the vote push hasn't been backed by the conservatives. It seems to me there was some recent controversy regarding churches using their recources to back a get out the vote initiative. That being said, I may be biased but while both parties have had their share of inaccuracies, Bush has made himself look absolutely foolish. In the days following 9/11 when he appeard to be speaking from the heart, Bush actually came a cross as a pretty effective leader. However, when he's spouting the rhetoric of the machine that put him in office, it's pretty apparent that he has no idea what the fuck he's talking about.

I can see how one could make the tie. If things like this become more than localized incidents (like the break-in at the Bush Campaign offices a couple of weeks ago), then I agree it would be wise for John Kerry to denounce these types of acts.
