  1. Come on kids, did any of you actually read the article? I know no one likes to here someone badmouthin 'merica but its not so much of a yes or no question as a discussion piece.
  2. What, no helmet cam vid?
  3. No, I'm pretty sure Hans Solo, Lando Calrisian, and Luke Skywalker are real people. Anyone who tells you otherwise is just part of the conspiracy. Ron Paul actually gets political advice from Yoda all the time too.
  4. Shit. A new shell is like 500 bones.
  5. I don't remember Hans and Luke ever fire bombing civilians.
  6. Interesting article. Thanks.
  7. What shit-hole east coast city will you be working in?
  8. You're really good at getting Atomic and Voile mixed up. Voiles are a U.S. company, Atomic is from the Austria.
  9. The Shamans max out at 173 because they're a way fat ski. Trust me, you wouldn't want them longer. They're 160mm at the tip. Because they're short and fat they excel in deep snow in trees. Hands down the best deep snow tree ski I've ever been on. The first time I was on them I couldn't keep from giggling and laughing I was having so much fun. I know people that have tried them and don't like them though. Some complain they are hooky in deep stuff and if you like sliding/swishing your turns as most skiers on rockered skis do, then you might feel the same. They are unique among fatties in that they have lots of sidecut and thus are a carver's ski. The Oracle, a mid fat, maxes out at 175. I understand their philospophy is short fat and stiff though.
  10. I think the Coombacks are a little over 8 lbs a pair. John, I know what you mean. My boards are a bit on the heavier side as well but with dynafits and l/w boots its a pretty reasonable setup. The other thing about Icelandics is they don't make anything longer than a 170 in lot of their skis.
  11. That's funny, it won't let me say How-itz-er
  12. Looks like SkiLogik has some nice boards but the Howitzer is a little on the heavy side and their backcountry rig, the Piton, is just a bit too narrow of a profile.
  13. Also, the Atomic Charter and Voile Charger have very different dimensions. The Charger is a little bit bigger in the shovel and has less sidecut and fatter underfoot (112). The Charter is 98 or 100 underfoot. The Drifter is considerable fatter. In my opinion, for a touring ski I wouldn't go fatter than 112 or so underfoot.
  14. I believe its the Atomic Charter and the Voile Charger. The next ski up from Atomic is the Blog or the Atlas which are probably a bit heavier than what you are looking for. The Voile's have historically been pretty stiff but that might have changed this year. Same with Atomics b/c they used an acrylic core which made them light and snappy but I think they've gone to wood.
  15. How fat are you considering and how much do you want to spend? Lots of good feedback on the DPS 112, not super light unless you get the carbon and you'll have to throw down a grand for that. Coomback gets solid feedback as a soft snow ski. I'd also check out the Atomic Charter which fits the things your looking for at 98 underfoot. Atomic Hi-5 and Dynafit Stoke are worth checking out in the ultra-light category. I think the Stoke is stiffer. Also lots of great boutique skis such as the Praxis Backcountry.
  16. Yeah but I've only got about 5 days on it, never once in avalanche terrain.
  17. Sheeeit. I've got 100 days b/c days in this month.
  18. And good luck! Sounds like a cool job.
  19. I think there's a good chance it could be with the Director of Paramedicine at the hospital or someone in a higher up position; comparable to the "Chief's Interview" in a firefighter hiring process. It might just be a meet-and-great where the interviewer is going to affirm or disaffirm the panel's candidate ranking. Or it could be a situation where the interviewer is looking to narrow down the pool for a final hiring decision. At any rate, I'd wear a suit unless you hear specifically otherwise.
  20. Funny. Never see packs made with the outside shovel pocket anymore.
  21. The mythical Illinois bigwall?
  22. Powder skiing.
