  1. With all that exp. I'd say just solo it... maybe not your style. I'm always up for a lap on Hood, give me a PM when it gets closer.
  2. How long do you think until the gulley melts out and the scramble becomes a climb? I've been wanting to get up that one of these days. I too was at Lk Serene on Saturday, so nice.
  3. I just heard from the Ranger station that it was snowed in at about 7 miles. Have fun.
  4. FT. Myers?? Are you kidding? I didn't know any FL climbers existed. I used to live in Port Charlotte... all I did was fish while I was there. I doubt I can get out, with you this trip, but if you need a partner next time, hit me up. Maybe you might like to hit Hood or Baker too while you're here next time. There is probably a small chance I could do a Camp Muir hike on Saturday if you didn't find any partners and my Index climb falls through (it might). Hit me up at kirkb@ivivid.net and I'll give you my number and who knows maybe we can hit something while youre here. Kirk
  5. If you have a few months, find your local Crossfit and get in there 5 days a week. I can assure you after 2 months of crossfit you WILL be in shape to climb Rainier. Guaranteed.
  6. Nice job Steven. And here I was lounging in LW in the sun and low 70's. Had beer and brats at Munchen by 4pm. Now that's fun climbing!
  7. I think I drove by R&D 4 times and never saw anyone climbing it. A true classic with nary a mountie to be found...
  8. Can we go ahead and agree on two things? 1. It can be a bit dangerous at Vantage (Frenchman's Coulee). 2. Let's change the name to Frenchman's Shit-ee. Now that the toilets are gone, a little chossy rock will be the least of your worries. And now for the best climbing quote ever... while camping at the feathers last weekend, an un-named climber tourched a huge puft of grass. This was a hugh fire, the hillside was a-glow. A few of us ran over and saw that someone was there (we thougth a camp fire cought something else on fire). Un-named climber was holding a beer with a huge grin on his face. He looked over at us, seeing the concer we had for what was going on he said: "I usually wouldn't do this, but I've got a helluva buzz on". I felt bad for the wasted fauna, but it was quite classic!

  10. That's awful big talk from a guy waiting to do a 5.7 route, as we all know, the mounties class probably won't get past the Feathers. I have a solution, man-up and do some routes harder than a .9 and I can guarantee you there will be no class of students holding you up. Even on at the Feathers there are a few 9's and 10's that I almost never see students doing. Stop whining.
  11. 111, what's changed and when? Just curious. We did it in Feb a few years ago and getting to the gates then seemed kinda thin for an "easy" route. The gates were pretty cool - blue ice in the left one and steep powder in the right. Of course, we didn't have any previous knowledge to judge the route by; just figured anyone trying it in heels or with a dog would have to have been an idiot Haha, the line about the dog makes me laugh. I climbed Hood last year via the old Chute and about 1/2 way to the summit, I thought I saw a dog in the distance... What the F#&K is that I thought. Got a little closer and yes, it's a dog comming down from the summit of Hood. Damn, that's some dog I remember thinking. Got home the next day and saw the news... blind climber (with dog) climbs Mt. Hood. It can be done.
  12. There is some pretty good climbing at Mission George, El Cajon Mountain, Santee Boulders... and more. Watch out, as some crazy guy has declared war on bolts and has defaced many routes. More info at www.climbingsandiego.com
  13. try hooking up with some people at professorpaddle.com I'm sure you'll find people there.

  15. Hi HikerGirl98 and zef933, We have some plans to climb Adams... you are both very welcome to meet up and come along. Our plan is to drive down on FR night, leaving Kurt's (in Bellingham) at about 5pm or so. That will put us arriving at the trailhead (Cold Creek CG) at 11pm or so. We will bivy at the trailhead somewhere and headout around 4am, making the whole push in one day. Should be very do-able and hopefully we'll arrive back at the trailhead in the mid-afternoon. All of this is contingent on the weather report... looks iffy as of now. Kirk 425-346-0897
  16. Hey Kurt, I might be interested in doing Adams with you. Give me a call. Kirk (425)346-0897
  17. Trip: Mt. Pugh - Mtn Loop Hwy - Date: 7/5/2008 Trip Report: I got a call from Joel to see if I wanted to climb Mt Pugh on Saturday... hell yea I want to climb something. We hit the trailhead at about 9am on Saturday. We wasted a little time by going past the FS road we needed to turn on, but figured out our error pretty quickly and were back on track. The trail from the start is pretty steep, even though it is riddled with switchbacks. With over a mile of gain in 5.5 miles, you can see why. We cranked along until we hit the lake, which was our first rest stop. At this point I must say Joel was kicking my ass up the hill. He's quite a bit faster than me, but I was trying hard to keep up. After food and water we were on out way again. More switchbacks and steepness. We broke out of the forest and (after a quick snack and water)had to go through some loose rock and snow to gain the trail up to Stujack Pass... and more switchbacks. Once we were at Stujack pass, we had another short break and fueled up. From there, the trail was covered in pretty steep snow. We passed a couple who turned around about here due to not having stiff enough boots to handle it. The snow was solid and we kicked steps which was fine although a little slick from time to time. It wasn't hard climbing, but the exposure was a bit scary... don't slip and fall here. An arrest would be doubtful and it's a long way down. After a couple hundred yards or so, we were back on rock, only to hit 2 more very short sections of snow the rest of the climb. From here, the scramble was pretty straight forward with just a couple exposed sections. The weather took a turn for the worse above Stujack pass, windy, cloudy and light rain a few times, with some nice wind mixed in there. At the summit, it was actually wind free and nice, although sprinkling a bit. We signed the register, took a few pics and had a snack before heading back down. The scramble back down was pretty uneventful save for us getting off the trail a couple times and dealing with the steep snow just above Stujack pass. Once past there, it was smooth sailing. It started to rain 2 minutes after arriving at the car. Nice timing. 4 hours up, 3 hours down, 11 miles RT, Elevation Gain 5300' Gear Notes: Ice Axe, rain gear, water Approach Notes: Once you are on the dirt portion of the Mnt Loop Hwy (heading east from Granite Falls), if you hit pavement and see road 23 you went too far. Pack enough water for the whole trip, there is no good water along the way.
  18. Has anyone been up Mt. Pugh lately? I'm looking for snow conditions above Stujack Pass as well as overall conditions. Any access issues would be appreciate as well. - Cheers

  20. Glad to see you made it... a long hike for that last 15'. I was one of the two guys you talked to camped by the pond next to Colchuck Lake. Same day we did Colchuck, Dragon Tail, Witches Tower Scramble Route (I was getting tired, so I kept heading to Little Annapurna) and Little Annapurna. What a great day in the upper basin. Saw 11 people total in 2.5 days... NICE!!!
  21. We were using crampons in the mornings and post holeing in the afternoons. Insane weather thought...
  22. I'm going up tonight, hitting the Alpine start tomorrow, and will attempt Colchuck and Dragon Tail on Saturday. Planning Prussic on Sunday, with maybe a stop on Cannon if time permits on the way back. I'll let you know what we encounter... (keeping my fingers crossed for a 4-fer!)
  23. Does anyone know who hit the first homerun? (Maybe John Hatfield from the Cincinatti Red Stockings - 1869?) I wonder how long the other players had to bunt and leg out doubles before they could actually start swinging for the fence too?
  24. Nice TR. I've been looking at doing that climb this summer... now I know I want to do it.
  25. I live in Monroe and am dying to get out to Index. I dont have a trad rack and top out at about mid 10's sport, so I haven't seen to much for me there as of yet. The few sport routes are all pretty stiff. I could follow on the routes you want to lead there, so if you are intersted, give me an e-mail: kirkb@ivivid.net
