Yeah. It seems as though someone here has confused the terms anabolic/catabolic with anaerobic/aerobic. I just wish that I'd known about the barefoot running/bone growth phenomenon earlier in life. I could have saved so much money on footwear and had really big, thick bones by now.

Snowmobiles are also allowed to go to the summit of Mt. Baker. I've only seen one go into a crevasse, sans rider. He jettisoned.

Why must I feel like that? Why must I chase the cat? Nothin' but the God in me....

Regrettably, this incident happened too late to be included in Heston's final keynote speech.

How deep would a typical HAZ be on a 3-4mm thick part and what kind of stress concentration factors would such an HAZ produce?

Obama will force men to "talk about it". Obama will take money from the troops and give it to recovering crack addicts so that they can buy more crack to recover from so that they can get more money. Obama will choose the Dalai Lama as his running mate. Their campaign symbol will be a Ding Dong. Obama will force kids without daddies to play with kids with two mommies. Obama will establish a Department of Hope which will tax anyone not willing to dream.

Woof, For what it's worth, here are some things we learned taking our dogs backpacking: Limit what the dog's carry to about 20% of their body weight. This usually means a medium sized (40 lb) adult dog can carry all his/her stuff and a little bit of yours, too. Inspect the dog for chaffing often. Apply body lube if necessary, or tape a fleece/polartec material around any offending packstraps. Some dog packs have handles like suitcases over the shoulders. Not required, but handy for carrying dogs over streams/obstructions or if the dog is injured, over rough spots. Stuff to take: 1st aid kit (joint wrap and body lube important), one or more booties for cut paw pads, collapsable dog bowl, water bottle, food, higher energy treats, sleeping pad+airline blanket (overnight), mosquito repellent (they drive dogs crazy too), leash, bone, poo bags. Your dog may act weird when you first put the pack on. It might take a couple of days for the dog to figure out how not to run into things, get over logs, streams, etc, but they learn fast. Some packs slide forward when going downhill on some dogs. Not a big deal, but something to watch for and help the dog with. We got cheapo Outdoor Products packs. Barebones, but they worked fine, and proved to be durable. At first opportunity, the dog will jump into the water with the pack on. Don't put anything in the pack that won't handle a dunking. Have fun!

[TR] Dragontail - Triple Couloirs - 3/7/2008
tvashtarkatena replied to esugi's topic in Alpine Lakes
Hey Rafael, We were up skiing near Silver (Snoqualmie) today and everything sunlit was falling apart. Slides everywhere. THe cornices are going bigtime. Tomorrow will be even warmer: more slides. The good news is that the sunlit snowpack is consolidating rapidly, BUT the Colchuk is colder and higher and doesn't get as much sun, so it will likely remain loaded longer. You may want to cruise up to Colchuk and check it out with some caution after seeing what the avi forecast has to say. -
Ed Amame's a great guy. Go with it.

Really? So you buy that the Dali Lama is the 14th incarnation of an "enlightened being"? THAT is NOT a "fantasy character"? Interesting. Why not? You believe that there's a great, big, fuzzy kitty way up in the sky. Kitty loves you.

I heard my first thrush of 2008 this morning. Awesome day.

Certain photos may indicate otherwise, but I only have one butt. Some of you, I'd wager, will exhibit brain activity after death that is indistinguishable from that in life.

The experience of those, such as I, that "are free indeed" is due precisely to "allegories, parables, poems and myths", not bullshit worldly legalism that Paul addressed in Romans and subsequently described as "milk" for babes of worldly understanding; what he described as "meat" is chastised here by Ingersoll. No doubt, Ingersoll is one that finds comfort in chanting trance-like, "Jesus...Jesus...Jesus..." unendingly, while seeming oblivious to the fact that Jesus is recorded as having taught almost exclusively in allegory and parable and is recorded as stating his mission was (through his allegorical teachings) "to set the captives free". You are free in the way that dogshit is also free.

Though they may both be "good guys", it remains that, mentally, Bill is an adult of consideration and TTK a deluded, troubled adolescent. That's the nicest thing anyone's said to me all week. Gonna plow some pow to-mor-row! Gonna plow that pow... ...in the name of Allah AND His Holiness The Dalai Lama. Mama. I got somethin fo yo chakra in my po-jama.

Except that no such offensive remark about Judaism was ever uttered. Small detail. I made fun of Leavenworth, and Charleton Heston. I assumed that was really obvious, but I guess not. As for making fun of dead celebrities, fuck em. None of us knew them personally, they were willing public figures, and they're as fair game dead as alive. I'm not mourning the motherfucker, that's for sure. Now, really. Is it any surprise TTK would vie for top status on this board at giving offense by taking the greatest liberties in incivility? He has honked loudly and repeatedly of his representation of the American unCivil Liberties Union. Need a keynote speaker at your next bar mitzvah?

china's hardly your archetype communist state - for fucks sake, they've abandoned all the central economic concepts of communism and just kept the despotic elements that were in keeping w/ their ancient traditions of government fearing communism is weak-sauce. history has clearly shown that communism doesn't create an international brotherhood. the communist nations of vietnam, cambodia, china and russia all fought wars amongst themselves and only managed anything like cooperation when being attacked by the west. china isn't funding the cominterm like the ussr in the 20s/30s. mainstream belief in communism died there after the cultural revolution just like in russia after stalin. china's not trying to do shit but get rich now (whihc i'll grant, can still put our nations on a collision coure, since the lord jesus has clearly given us the right to the riches first). I'm gonna have to agree here. The old Commie Conspiracy model is long and rightfully dead. What the U.S. has to fear from China is what it's currently experiencing: competition for resources, jobs, and trade. Eventually, this will settle out; our both the stuff we buy and the stuff they buy will be about the same price (more), and we'll earn about the same average wage (less, in our case). Until then, go get that Blue Light Special.

I can't believe that I actually agree 100% with something you wrote! Very well put! That was a good post. Guess you aint' been to China lately. China operates on one fundamental principle: money. Same as us.

By the way, I wake up every morning with an urge to wipe out 20 million people. I just lack the means to do it in style. Oh, and fuck Moses. The real one. There, now Raindawg finally has something to spray about.

You may have heard the expression: "is nothing sacred"? The answer is, yes, some things are to many people, and very deeply so(including at least six million people who were murdered for their religious beliefs or associated ethnicity.) In a free society, you can piss all over Christianity, Judaism, or whatever.... ....but apparently not Charleton Heston. When did he become a religion, anyway?

Perhaps, one day, we atheists, who are, after all, at the root of every evil, will be exterminated.

I'd say you left out all the relevant information from Belcourt last night. Perhaps you're 'writing challenged'. I've postulated that laser cutting might produce sharper radii at the edge of the inner teeth (the most common failure point). Does BD have an opinion on whether their manufacturing process makes a difference? There's nothing obtuse about correcting your mistatement about infinite fatigue life. Picks are not disposable solely because they break; it's primarily because they get a) damaged or b) too short due to repeated sharpening. It's obviously possible to design a well performing pick that has a very long fatigue life when used properly in ice only (dry tooling is another matter) because Petzl has apparently done so. Everyone chooses their poison; since a fall from a broken pick can result in injury or death, I choose the more reliable Petzl pick which, in experience, seems to perform just as well as any BD offering, so I don't feel as though I'm sacrificing performance in any way, but that's just me. Regarding most of the rest of what your wrote, the several rambling paragraphs about Will Gadd et can be condensed into: "check the date code on your new BD pick so you're not getting a weaker pre-2002 model". Earlier picks did not have the smaller 3 and 4 teeth. The smaller teeth means the pick will break less often. Teeth 3/4 are also the place where you get the best "stick" on good ice. Tooth 3/4 are the exact place that the stress risers of the teeth and the leverage you put on the handle all meet. The same place you'll put the most strain on a pick by the leverage you add as you crank up on the shaft to clean the pick for the next placement. BD has redesigned the tools (different shaft curves, lighter heads and thinner shafts for more head spead) so you are less likely to over drive the tools, which means you'll also put less force on the pick to remove it. I am still inclined to think something is missing from the equation. From my own use and the conversation today with Mr. Belcourt I'd also venture to guess that the angle on the previous BD tool handles and the angle of their picks puts a much greater force on the 3/4 teeth when you clean the tool than say the Quark angles and its pick under similar circustances. One of the first things I noticed when comparing a Quark with the newest Cobra was the tools clean (and swing) slightly different for me. The Quark needs less up and down before you lift it straight out and more wrist flick to place. The recent redesign @ BD is an effort to prevent over driving the tool so you don't use too much leverage to clean it. the above is just my "out of my ass" thought process from talking about this issue for two days so take it for what it is worth Check the four number manufacturing dates on your picks. If you have a pick made in 2002 (anything maked before 2001) you might be able to buy a better pick. (A "3245" manufacturing date means the pick was made in 2003 on the 245 day of that year, "2111" is 2002 pick made on day 111 of that year, "2001" is 2002 day 1). Titon picks (T rated) have a deeper cross section and a thicker blade, they will last longer because of the heavier material. Because of the performance built into the current Lazer picks...which really means the pick is cut thin on two plans to place easier...you'll still be breaking picks at the smaller 3 and 4 teeth. Finally, the meat of the matter. That's why Petzl makes a Quad pick for mixed (beefier, and quite a bit less than $150 apiece) and a Cascade pick for pure ice. All the manufacturers recommend that you don't dry tool and ice climb on the same set of picks.
