A big part of where you fall short with me is equating all those who oppose gay marriage as "bigots and racists and KKK members". That just about ends where you and I can progress in this discussion. Yeah, I can see where that would be a sticking point. To me, opposing gay marriage is exactly on par with racist Jim Crow laws and sexist corporate policy, etc. Probably not quite on par with KKK (i.e. killing people) but it's the same neck of the woods. I'm totally OK with people not LIKING the idea of gay marriage, btw (i'm personally against ALL marriage) -- but outlawing it because you don't like it? That makes you a huge bigot, and selfish, too. And worthy of the same scorn and derision I would heap on a sexist or racist. It's exactly the same in my book. Have a nice trip! Watch out for loose rocks, I got hit in the leg with a softball sized rock a few years ago on Torment. Really ruined my day!

I think you're probably right, it's much better to treat bigots and racists and KKK members like they're "reasonable people" and engage them in rational discussion, since they're all obviously so rational to begin with. A mayor (a public, gov't offical, speaking in that role) announced he would not allow the company to open franchises in his area. Sounds like censorship at a whole new level to me, and well beyond a "boycott" by private citizens. And the media exposure and obsession with this, the political attentions, are all over the top. Misdirection, as I said before. Fine, so this mayor was an idiot. But that's not representative, since most of us aren't mayors. It's sad that you don't think it's a big deal, though. If McDonalds announced that they gave 8 million to the KKK, wouldn't you encourage everyone you know to put them out of business? Would you tell everyone to just STFU and respect their opinion?

Perhaps it is time for people who don't like what organizations Chick-Fil-A supports to STFU and just don't buy their shitty food. I'm pretty sure that is what they're doing, isn't that what boycott means? Or are you saying they should quietly boycott, you know, so they don't hurt anyone's feelings?

The status quo is being changed. That's usually a difficult thing to do, and kind of not the best tactic to just insult people that resist change (human nature). On the other hand, not all opinions deserve to be respected.
