  1. glad you're OK. Did the crevasse fall happen because of a bad bridge, or did he slip and fall into an open one?
  2. thx for the link, I've wondered about "sawing" leg loops, I've noticed something similar on my harness.

OMG, I remember those toys. What were those called?
  4. fuck that. What is "our" agenda? Fortunately, I doubt very much the climbing community is cohesive enough for this to work. The last thing I want is some fucking group to decides what "our agenda" is. Climbing is a way of communing with the very nature of existance. Standing atop a remote summit, viewing the world, I am reminded of the complete and utter insignifigance of humanity, and I am awed by the beautiful, but simple fact, that the universe even exists at all. Humans and all the bullshit emotions and rules and laws and definitions that we cling to completely ruin that emptiness. Climbing as a religion must be equally without formal rules, organization or dogma, lest you destroy the very thing that makes it special.

  10. OMG, I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one that does this. I had an REI down bag a few years ago, don't remember the model. The only thing I hated about it was the shell was completely non water-resistant. In fact, it seemed to attract water.
  11. I like the one that says "Imagine your mom looking like this!" Um...no

Choosing your descent route is an important part of the climb. You cannot just "rap anything" and not worry about which route you descend. Plenty of reasons why you cannot do this have been mentioned. Make sense now? Be safe, bro.

  17. yeah yeah, last minute notice is sort of my hallmark. I was planning a solo traverse of the Bailey Range this next week, but now I'm starting to puss out (), and a partner is starting to sounds better and better. Plan is to leave Sol Duc on Sunday, and exit via North Fork Quinault River trail, or maybe Skyline trail the following Friday or Saturday. Weather looks SWEET!
  18. 2 years ago we bought a brand-new car -- our first new car ever. It had 2 miles on it. We brought it home. That week, my son decorated it with a knife, leaving deep, swirling gouges all over both sides, the hood, pretty much everywhere. I still get pissed off when I see it.
