  2. how ironic, I remember hearing this argument before, like 8 years ago. And how did that work out for you?
  3. But a few minutes ago...damn, you're fickle.
  4. You idlers, come to Kenmore and help me shovel paper.
  5. I don't know why I bother with REI anymore but that's the first place I went. Not only did they not have it, it wasn't in REI's computer system. I.e., they aren't even going to order it. Then the clerk suggested I try---get this!---World Wide Books and Maps! Like "Climber's Guide to Frenchman's Coulee" is a Lonely Planet title. (Last winter I went to REI's boot department to ask for vapor barrier socks. The guy had never heard of such a thing.)
  6. Well, I was about to add that the sliding problem could take a long time to solve depending on how wet the conditons are, but now it's not funny. ///The Aristocrats!
  7. Sometimes I think the French system of appointing judges after they have undergone some intensive training may be a better way to go than electing judges as we do. On the other hand, all the jurors I served with were plenty sharp enough to follow long arguments and remember in a useful way facts and statements made days and weeks apart. Voir dire was exhaustive.
  8. Has this poster replied to anyone here?
  9. Oh noes! She told me she was going to Houston! http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=804091#Post804091
  10. I'll carry your flask anytime. We'll knock back a stiff one then solve that sliding problem.
  11. In my story, 3 goons tortured and gunned down a man in his wife's house in front of his wife, in-laws, and 2 y.o. son. In general it was pretty clear they did it but long before we came to an end, there was some mighty fine hair-splitting going on about exactly what combination of what crimes each socipath should be convicted of. I suggest that if you plan on committing a crime, consult an attorney first. I also recommend that if you ever get a jury summons, ignore it. (That's a crime, by the way)
  12. I was on a murder jury once. Voir dire was 2 weeks, the trial was over 5. The instructions to the jury ran to 67 pages. Don't do any second-guessing about it unless you were one of the people inside the process.
  13. Go find another bivy spot.
  14. The way it's raining everything's wet.
  15. I assume it's a sliding scale.
  16. A while back I had a dream that my sister tried to take over Guam. For the first hour or so after i woke up I wanted to phone her to remind her there are military bases there so for heaven's sake, DON'T TRY TO TAKE OVER GUAM.
  17. Are you like this a lot?
  18. Yeah, but do they actually have them to ship? Twice I have found incredible prices at Bent Gate but...no stock...and no re-stock date. I'll phone them to ask but I think Bent Gate plays a game.

No wonder you're looking for climbing partners.

My recollection is that it was quite a few years ago.

All kinds of broken bones, head injury, shoulder all mangled, rib in the lung. Bad stuff. It sticks in my mind because it played on the news, then a day or so later it was reported how badly injured she was. The TV station was in trouble for presenting it as humor.

I remember the news item. That woman was seriously fucked up in the fall.
  23. My understanding is that it is a solo technique. You trail about 30' or 40' of knotted rope behind you. Obviously you still have a hell of a problem to solve, but at least you are hanging from a rope not far from the lip rather than busted to pieces down at the bottom...all alone.
  24. The one about 24 seconds in, over the physics tunnel, is a 5.7 called Ultrabrutal.
