  1. Making it through Hwy 20, Hwy 2, Granite Falls without getting a ticket. Leaving excessive overbuilt gear at home, but still carrying essentials. Not spaining an ankle or having aching knees when you do pack to much.
  2. Wow. You mean you this ax was INTENTIONALLY warped?
  3. I agree with both you guys. He needs a good lawyer to counter the cop's word. There are also a lot of charges he needs to contend with. On the condition that he is found innocent of the criminal cases, he will then have a basis to file a civil suit.
  4. I have just the Thermawrap jacket. The sizes run a little small. I have to put it under my shell rather than over. I usually combine it with a light fleece so I have more layering options depending on the activity level.
  5. I have the Camp XLH95 too. I used it on the West ridge of Prusik Peak and was worried about taking a lead fall on it, but rapped off it just fine. Now I use the BD Alpine Bod. The Camp harness was perfect for Shuksan last weekend. I wouldn't use it for anything more than a glaicer harness.
  6. Did you admit guilt? Cops usually ask "Do you know why I stopped you?" to get you to admit it. WA state law allows you to speed to pass someone on a 2 lane highway, but not on a 4 lane. Was it Hwy 2, 20 or I90? I always request a contested hearing and mail my ticket in certified mail with a return receipt. In the envelope, include a discovery request letter. Ask for the officer's sworn statements and records for the speed measuring device. If they don't mail that info to you, then you can move for a dismisal. If they do send you the paperwork, then you can cite mitigating circumstances and try for a reduced fine.
  7. Thanks for sharing! My Dad lives in Enterprise and I rarely go out there. This beta is added motivation even if the rock is all rotten. No other rap slings while you were up there?
  8. Spring Mountain is in the Umatila Forest I believe. I have been to Spring Mountain once. There is a link off of Whitman College's website for it. Next to Wallowa Lake is the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The Eagle Cap area is a great range for backpacking, but I'm not aware of any established routes. There is a ranger station just as you enter Enterprise, but the keep 9-5 hours Mon-Fri.
  9. Is this guy going to have to pay for his own rescue?
  10. I was up there last month. $22 bucks for the permit. You have to register online before your intended trip. Then show up at Jack's restaraunt the day of your climb to pick up your permit. Never saw anyone checking for permits the whole weekend.
  11. I could be wrong, but it sounds like an anchor chopper just looking for acceptance from others to justify the chop.
  12. My biggest pet peev: Drivers getting on the on ramp at 30-40 mph and then expect to merge onto the freeway traveling at least 60.
  13. I have used my pair for about 9 months, by far my fav shoes ever. I wasn't used to the aggresive asym toe and thought I got a pair to small. Tried on a piar 1/2 size up and they were to generous with the fit. After awhile my tight pair broke in and they are really comfortable. 1.5 Euro size smaller than my street shoe. I have some Katanas 2.5 sizes smaller that I can take off in a hurry after a route. Caldwell goes 3.5 euro sizes smaller than his street shoe. Crazy
  14. That doesn't sound encouraging. I have a Joker and so does my climbing partner. I use it for alpine climbing only and have a 10.2 for cragging. I have even been tossing around the idea of using a 8 mm for a half rope system. I would be interested in seeing that BD thread. In this case ignorance is not bliss.
  15. Soft and wet. Made an attept at Shuksan Sat & Sun via Shannon Creek-Sulphide. Kicked myself in the ass for not bringing my snowshoes, postholed a lot. Once we had a view of the Sulphide, we opted to turn around. Lots of cornices ready to give and fresh signs of avys.
  16. Wow, I got back to work then checked up on this thread and saw it diverted back to the "Arch controversy". I agree that Potter's ascent of the Delicate Arch could have been done in a more inconspicuous style so as to not draw more attention to himself. Though I don't think the act itself was wrong, but it was unthoughtful of what the backlash would be. I was suprised that Patagonia didn't fire him on the spot. Instead their statement was a "hands off/ we didn't know" statement. I can't believe it took them that long to let Dean go, but it makes sense given the ripples that affected the community. It's too bad that Steph was let go for being an accomplice. I love Patagonia products and how they do business. While I was disappointed in seeing Dean & Steph lose their sponsorship, I'll continue to cheer them on but won't stop supporting Patagonia. Besides, Nau's clothing looks like it's intended to be worn around rainy towns rather than on a trip.
  17. Steph's book is pretty much about her climbing life. I only got a few pages into it. It just came out on the 1st.
  18. I attended the Seattle presentation last night. She said that as of three weeks ago, her and Dean were dropped as Patagonia ambassadors after 9 years of working for them. She suspects it is fallout from the Delicate Arch, but didn't specifically say, I don't think Patagonia did either. You could tell it was a sore subject, so please be considerate during the Q&A time. Her presentation was great, so I'm not going to spoil it for the PDX folks. All and all, I was really impressed by her humility and sense of humor.
  19. Thanks for the heads up, I checked with Patagonia Seattle and she will be there Weds, April 4th at 7:00 pm. There is also a book review in the latest issue of rock & ice.
  20. I saw this earlier on http://www.alpinist.com/doc/ALP18/newswire-prezelj-rejects-piolet-d'or Alpinist had a great article in issue 16 on this award. What disappointed me the most about this year was that they didn't let the jury nominate the climbs, the Sponsors choose the nominees. Andrej Stremfelj resigned as jury president in response to this. http://www.alpinist.com/doc/ALP18/newswire-controversy-piolet-d'or
  21. Feed the addiction!!! It calls....
  22. Hendershot

    holy fuck!

Good thing she was a woman, major shrinkage at those temps. That is cold -58*, colder than my ex-wife's heart. Unbelievable that she lived through it.
  23. There was an article in Rock & Ice on that Crag, no bolts allowed. Lisa Rands did Gaia in Dosage 4, ran it out like a champ.
  24. Either it was a hard night taken to far or a suicide. Good point about the baby. Didn't think about that. It will be interesting how she is remembered.
  25. GoLean Crunch is the best tasting "healthy" cereal. You can get it for about $2.50 at Trader Joes vs. $4.50 at QFC. On the trail, I'm all about the Quaker instand oatmeal and Pop Tarts.
