  1. Bring a gas mask for the approach.
  2. This perfectly frames and explains the entire phenomena, issue, and impact. It also perfectly explains the obesity epidemic, strip malls, and the bolt-enabled transformation of climbing to riskless entertainment for the vast majority of the demographic. I'm here for you.
  3. Who said we are not part of nature?
  4. I disagree. That's the old LAME excuse that as long as there is a bigger mess somewhere else, you don't have to deal with the smaller ones. Why is something like an open pit coal mine a "mess"? Why make a normative statement about a particular fact of our technological existence? Open pit coal mines, like bolts, are neither good nor bad, but extensions of the technological world onto the natural. We are organic components of the technological world, using our biologic energy to enact the localized/delocalized "mind" of the/our technological consciousness. Your morals are a relic from a distant organic past.
  5. Yeah, like struggle to not starve to death instead of going rock climbing.
  6. Let's say you have health care through the small business you work for, but their aren't enough employees to qualify for a "group discount", so your boss cuts your coverage so he doesn't go bankrupt in this down economy. Any insurance company you call denies you over the phone because you have a "preexisting condition". How is this not a violation of your civil rights?
  7. You need one of these for composing your next screed:
  8. You: "I haven't missed a day of work in fifteen years." Me: "You're a retard." That's just what a person wants on their headstone? "Never missed work"? What a legacy...
  9. I didn't mean to "photobomb", just to point out the doublethink required to bitch about bolts in the wilderness area while simultaneously ignoring or accepting even worse natural degradation. For example: some people bitch about bolts while having and raising children. Which is worse for the environment?
  10. I did it 28h Bellingham to Bellingham in the month of April. We ditched our bivy gear at the trailhead after hiking the road. Topped out at 11pm or some such, hit the TH at dawn or so. Saw a man wearing a suit and holding a briefcase in the woods on the hike out.
  11. What the fuck am I looking at? Are they transiting the moon?
  12. Yes. Heaven forbid you're format gets destroyed by a picture of overburden removal at one of the world's largest coal mines while you argue about bolts again.
  13. Yeah, if only Columbus had sent a robot in his place, we'd probably still have brown people. I guess we'll just have to stick around here until the Sun becomes a Red Giant, then go extinct. Fitting.
  14. Meanwhile...
  15. So much for technology transfer.
  16. Thanks to you, this topic is now in spray. Happy now???? Yes.
  17. Gee, guys, this is really fun!!! Here, let me try: Until you've dug a gold mine in a national park, until you've invested the enormous amount of energy and vision required to create a wedding ring from that gold mine, and until you've busted your ass hauling that wedding ring up from tree line and carefully placed it in an appropriate alpine meadow, and then proposed to your wife"....you simply don't get a voice in the discussion because you have no clue what your [sic] talking about. Seriously, it will change your perspective on the conversation." See? I used faulty logic to equate digging a gold mine with placing bolts! I've had almost no experience putting up FAs, but my biggest worry has been the trails. Bolt? Big fucking deal. Wiped out hillside from erosion? BIG fucking deal.
  18. The Universe is organized chaotically, not randomly.
  19. God is all knowing. God knows the quantum state of all particles. God knows the position and velocity of all particles.
  20. Please define god.
  21. Please define god.
  22. Please define god. Then I will prove that god does not exist. You can "wonder" all you want about whatever you want, but there is no god.
  23. God cannot exist.
  24. The existance of god can be disproved.
  25. There is no god. Prove it. He doesn't have to prove "god" doesn't exist, you have to prove that all the evidence that "god" doesn't exist is inconsistent with observations, and then accept that the only logical conclusion is that "god" exists. Or, if you say "god" does exist, you have to provide incontrovertible evidence of this "fact", if it is such. Fat chance. Just because there are presents under the tree doesn't mean there's a Santa.
