  1. I've heard that artist point probably won't even open this year. You're gonna have snow at about 3500ft so it's still winter up there. But that's fun too.... If it's not too sloppy you can hike up to artist point. The kids will have fun playing in the snow and the views are fantastic.
  2. update: As of this afternoon the road was not open. The cat was working on it and it should be open in two / three days. There are over "2" meters of snow at railroad pass now and ALL lakes will be frozen over for a long time yet.
  3. Stupid weather. Wasn't raining at 5:30 and there's nothing about this in the forecast so I'm hoping it'll get better this afternoon.
  4. My partner just bailed on me. Anyone want to hit Squamish? You can crash here tonight if ur not local. Weather is crap this weekend. I want to get out today! C'mon... call in sick!!
  5. I can get out weekdays. I'm in Vancouver. Want to hit Squamish?
  6. Anyone have any recent updates on the road and snow levels in this area?
  7. my climbing partners are coming over today to practice crevasse rescue (as best we can on a rainy day in my living room). Wasn't too enthusiastic about it but after reading that I'm certainly more motivated!
  8. Nice job guys and great pics! We were up there last weekend from the other side.
  9. lmao... I just sent a link to ur tr to my climbing partner cuz we've done a lot of that too. I agree with Weekend..... those are often the best times.
  10. I had two dog encounters there last Friday. Both dogs were tied up and both owners went out of their way to ensure that their dog's weren't bothering anyone. Unfortunately, as with most things, a few bad apples make everyone look bad. I think we need to just get rid of all the annoying people generally. Starting with the smokers. I find that a lot more annoying and distracting than the dogs.
  11. I go back and forth every week, usually with my dog... and have never been asked to show any papers. (but yeah, your'e supposed to have the rabies stuff) The only thing they've ever been concerned with is if I'm bringing dog food into the states. Not sure if it works the other way but you probably should play it safe and not bring dog food. I had to spend 45 minutes with Bertha from Agriculture when I was busted with 2 cups of dog food by the Americans. I recently discovered that leaving a ziplock bag of spent ammo on the back seat by accident pretty much takes their mind of anything else you might have in the car
  12. I liked the Petzl Adjama too but found that it just didn't fit me very well. I posted a review of it here: http://www.summitpostgear.com/gear/1177/adjama.html I'm totally loving the Black Diamond Diva now though: http://www.summitpostgear.com/gear/3108/black-diamond-diva.html It's super light and incredibly comfortable. I haven't worn it with a pack yet but I expect that the gear loops might not work too well with a hip belt so I'll probably cut them off and rig something up with webbing. They make a men's version called the "Phoenix." My climbing partner just bought one and loves it.
  13. Yeah I was thinking $300 Cdn if you can pick them up or $300US if I have to ship them.
  14. These boots have about 4 miles on them. Didn't take long for my boyfriend to realize that he's not much of a mountaineer. There's a thread here with some discussion about them: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/396773/site_id/1#import They are size 12.5 and there's absolutely nothing wrong with them. These: http://shop.themountainfactor.com/product.php?xProd=881&xSec=258 $300 *edited to correct size... they are 12.5, not 13
  15. I used a petzl full body harness for my kids until they were about 10. Another option would be to use the seat harness and rig up a chest harness with some webbing. The little ones are just too top heavy. They flip over if something isn't holding them upright.
  16. I've skiied in plastics. Was fine for easy backcountry stuff but when we decided to do a few runs on the groomers on the way out I was miserable. Someone told me to take a crazy carpet and make inserts to put inside them to give a little more support higher up. Never tried it but he said he'd found that it helped a lot.
  17. Here's a few I have read and enjoyed in order of how much I liked them: Regions of the Heart: The Triumph and Tragedy of Alison Hargreaves by David Rose and Ed Douglas Savage Summit: The True Stories of the First Five Women Who Climbed K2, the World's Most Feared Mountain by Jennifer Jordan Facing The Extreme: One Woman's Story Of True Courage And Death-Defying Survival In The Eye Of Mt. McKinley's Worst Storm Ever by Ruth A. Kocour Mountaineering Women: Stories by Early Climbers by David Mazel Clouds from Both Sides by Julie Tullis & Peter Gillman Just a tip for buying books... you can often get books stupid cheap used on Amazon.com. That's how I buy most of my books these days... textbooks especially!
  18. Anyone want to? Going to be a beautiful day and I can't seem to convince anyone to take the day off. I have to bring my dog so it'll just have to be the Smoke Bluffs. Skiing is a possibility too but I think I'd rather climb.
  19. sorry boys.... the bimbo decided to delete the photo. you'll have to find some other ta tas to wank to and stay the fuck away from my chapstick.
  20. Waterproof, full grain leather, full shank mountaineering boots. Vibram soles with absolutely no signs of wear. Very lightly used. Need new laces but otherwise in excellent condition. They say size 8.5 which must be a UK size because the insoles measure 28cm which puts them at more like a US Men's 11. $120 REI kids pack - This pack has seen some gentle use but is in excellent condition. Good for children up to about age 10. Lightweight & comfortable. $40
  21. I haven't been there in a few years and I have my dog in tow so could anyone recommend some good routes in the 5.6-5.8 range (can be harder if I can tr it) with relatively easy access so her royal highness the dog doesn't have to work too hard. Preferably single pitch so aforementioned hrh doesn't freak out when mommy gets out of site. Sun would be a bonus thx!
  22. Just got this in my inbox. Temped to keep it to myself but I need all the karma I can get:
  23. hmmmm mine says 5.3 "squeeze a narrow chimney to the summit." I'm pretty sure the one on the left was more narrow and I definitely found that one easier but maybe I'm just an idiot. I think I have an extremely unflattering pic of my ass in the right one but I don't think I'm brave enough to post it.
  24. nice job Are you sure you were in the right chimney scheissami? There are two. The one on the right is harder. I did the easy one the first time and the hard one the second time. Thought I was just sucking till I got to the top and realized I'd been in the wrong chimney.
  25. Unfortunately we won't be able to make this one. I have a Mammut kids full body harness for sale though if anyone needs one. It's in excellent condition. $25. I can pop it in the mail on Friday for an extra few bucks and it should get to you in time for the Ropeup. Have fun all! Take lots of pics so I can show my kids.
