  1. I love my 'Saabaru.' The AWD is handy and I'm pretty happy with the gas consumption. I went from a full size 4x4 pick up truck to this little car so I was really worried but I've had 4 people with winter overnight gear in it and it's gotten me most places I need to go. More clearance would be nice but not nice enough to spend twice as much on gas or to justify the environmental impact.
  2. We did the N Twin yesterday. When we were on the summit there were 4 climbers descending the N Face of the S Twin towards an enormous bergschrund that they probably couldn't see. Unfortunately the clouds rolled in so we weren't able to follow their progress any further. Anyone know them and/or how they made out?
  3. i use the Komperdell REI poles. I snapped one in half once falling in a boulder field but REI just replaced the broken part. I've beat the hell out of them. One of them got stuck but the REI guy fixed it for me today so I think I'll be able to squeeze a little more life out of them. I had ordered some new ones but they were much heavier than the ones I have now so I returned them.
  4. i do have lots of friends but I won't for long if I start marking up enchantments permits If you haven't unloaded them by the end of the month, give me a shout. I'll ask around though. I just know that not everyone on my trip can extend the trip.
  5. oh boy... that's tempting. I have June 30th - 3rd for 8. We could camp over by Canon on the 4th and extend our trip by a few days. hmmmmmmmmmmmm 'cept that would mean skipping skool.... i doubt everyone could pull it off. Would you split them up?
  6. lol some good ones here. I always liked: "Jesus loves you... everyone else thinks ur an asshole"
  7. holy! I double checked to make sure this wasn't in Spray before I clicked on it. What a dumbass. Hopefully his close call will shake up his climbing philosophies and make him a safer climber.
  8. Intuition liners are awesome. You can knock some serious weight off your boots by using them and they're super comfy & warm.
  9. kewl... thanks a lot for the input.
  10. In your experience, do they place better than the straight sided ones?
  11. yeah... we tagged that ever elusive col and showed it who's boss.
  12. omg I'm SO jealous of your pics! I can't believe what a difference two hours made! We were the party that were heading up the North Butress but changed our minds after talking to you guys about weather and timing. Check out the nastiness that was at the col by the time we got there: More pics here: http://www.alpinescribes.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=109
  13. Sounds like we're at about the same level only I'm not a good enough skier to tele I can get away midweek. I'm a girl with a car too. PM me and we'll take over the world
  14. wow... good job. we were on Colchuck when the crappy weather rolled in. I was recommending Prusik to some friends and told them I'd rather go in Aasgard. Do you think the Snow approach is better? I still wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole but if the general perception is that it's better perhaps I'll quit telling people how much I hate it.
  15. Yeah, I have to admit that is pretty sweet. One of my climbing partners just got it. I ended up buying a GiGi for now simply because it was on sale
  16. We decided to wimp out and get a hotel room. Would appreciate any recommendations for good routes in the 5.6 - 5.8 lead range or up to 5.11 sport/toprope. Actually I could really use a few good toprope recommendations as I'm bringing a couple of new climbers with me.
  17. Seems to be the best of a lot of bad forecasts so some of us are heading down in hopes of a few breaks in the weather and check out the Rockfest (http://www.featheredfriends.com/rockfest/2006/poster.gif). Where's a good place to camp? I've never car camped down there so I have no idea.
  18. sadly the forecast is blowing goats so it doesn't matter any more *stomp* *pout*
  19. They're not shoes but my Dunham Waffle Stompers are are the stickiest boots I've ever used. I feel like I have suction cups on my feet when I wear them.
  20. Very sad. She was a very nice woman and a long time BCMC member.
  21. I was hoping to do that one this weekend but I don't think it can be done reasonably in 3 days. Yes, both the main access roads are out. Best access now seems to be North Fork Sauk River Trail via Sloan Creek/North Fork Sauk Road #49 which puts you 8.2 miles from White Pass. Road reports here: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mbs/conditions/road_conditions_report.shtml
  22. Cool of you to post. I've passed it on to everyone I know who was up there (which is pretty much everyone I know).
  23. Sounds like this road isn't usually open until the end of May. Does anyone have any current conditions? Was hoping to get up there next weekend. nps web site says it's scheduled to open on the 19th which would be perfect. Anyone have any more info?
  24. holy hell! what a zoo!
  25. Glad ur going to be ok... I think minx is probably right... the physical injuries will probably heal faster than your head space. As for your partner, unless he's a COMPLETE moron (in which case.... out him) I would hope/expect that he's probably going to be a pretty conciencious belayer from now on.
