Have you guys been to jury duty? I served in Seattle and from what I saw, odds are good that you will never even get the opportunity to answer a question that would disqualify you. In my 2 days, I didn't even get put on a panel.

My partner and I climbed Town Crier while two of our buddies did Green Drag-On. We also did it in a two-day format and to the best of my recollection the answer is no. We fixed three pitches on TC (which is even with the first 2 pitches of GD) and to get down/up we had to do two rappels. The first full-length to the big ledge, then a short one to the ground. I recall that one rope would get you pretty close to the ground, but close doesn't really cut it.

If there is an argument that is weird- insurance is not required in Washington, this is a fact. Minimal insurance is cheap. If you finance a bike you probably need full insurance. As an aside, please don't finance a bike. This is "probably" a bad guess. I believe most if not all new bikes have emission control equipment on them, both of mine have. There is "probably" more info here if anyone wants to dig.

If all you care about is transportation, you can get a very cheap small motorcycle (or dare I say, even a scooter?). I believe many 250 cc engines can get upwards of 70 or 80 mpg. No motorcycle insurance required in Washington but if you want it, it should be cheap because motorcycle insurance climbs sharply with engine size. Even if you want something with more style or power, it'll save you on gas. I've owned 600 cc and 1100 cc bikes that have both gotten above 40 mpg.

So what is the real selling point of the link cams anyway? They cost twice as much as a C4 and have 50% more range. When are you going to put these on your rack instead of some traditional cams? Do you want to do this on an alpine climb? Or would you plan to use one to supplement a full set of other cams? They just seem like a novelty, fiddly and expensive to me. And the plastic wigs me out.

I never placed one while climbing, but when I placed it on the ground I thought it was gonna get stuck.

ABC Huevos! They are cheap and work. And for cams, I like DMMs for the same reason. In general I think beginners should go with cheap gear, if they really want to buy their own. Use other people's stuff if you have more patience, because maybe right now you don't even know how two cams can be different from one another. I don't think a beginner should buy a link cam. They're expensive, require more care and are a little trickier to use than another cam.
