Wow. You should get on the phone and let the SAR team know that.

"Dear God, I'd just like to thank you for dropping that big chunk of ice on my face and cutting my nose last weekend. Thanks a bunch!" PRAISE BABY JESUS!

I think it's about time someone called Chuck_Norris. He could print out his post count, get it double-laminated at Kinkos, and use it to probe through the whole mountian.

Oops. Got all serious and stuff there. What I meant to say was... POOP!

I agree with you. Folks who like organizations/clubs/heirarchy/ego-trips/etc are attracted to S&R, and most of them are mediocre (if that) climbers. As you said, there are a few really good climbers in S&R, but they are a minority. However, that high level of organization and command heirarchy are ESSENTIAL when undertaking a complicated and large operation such as a search of the upper 1/2 of Mt. Hood. A high degree of climbing proficiency is hardly required for searching the palmer snowfield for snowcaves, but an understanding of search techniques and being in communication with the incident commander is very important. I don't believe that a bunch of WI5-leading, 5.12-sending, no-organization-belonging-to, rambo yahoos would be able to mount a very effective search and/or rescue in this case. The real shame is that the PNW doesn't have a professional mountain rescue team like they have in Banff or Chamonix (for example). No

Based on his (and Olequa's) more recent posts, I take that back. That whole "climbers on hood" thread needs some pruning.

Well, we are all reading your posts, so....

I think Luke's assertion that the guys made a poor decision with regard to the timing of their ascent was a reasonable one that should be considered and discussed. However, bringing it up in such an insensitive way in the accident thread was probably inappropriate. I don't think he should have been banned though.

I'm here to poop on this important thread.

Joshua Tree between X-mas and New Year's

70 degrees and calm!?!?!? You just don't get it CBS. Kevbone says it's gonna be cold and because he said that, your factual telemetry that portends a pleasant shirtsleeves-and-shorts day amid the monzonite must be wrong. Now get back to the lab and cook up some data that agrees with Kevbone! Remember, he's been there a few times, so he KNOWS! -
Help me-Getting to pumped on ice
Dr_Flush_Amazing replied to Jens's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
Riiiiiiight.... I'd say leading grade 5+ ice = not weak. It's funny that you are asking advice from all of us couch potatoes though. -
WHAT? The omniscient Kevbone doesn't KNOW something? Why didn't you just make up a fact like you do with all the other questions you've answered on this webpage? Here's your answer: Rope life is 4.8 years assuming the rope is blue. BTW: You only need a rope if you are climbing really hard routes, like 5.12c or more.

Based on the title, I was hoping this thread was going to give me news of Kevbone's bannination.

Joshua Tree between X-mas and New Year's
Dr_Flush_Amazing replied to catbirdseat's topic in Climbing Partners
You apparently have never been there in the winter months, for sure its the best opportunity for "warm sunshine" but its frickin cold, with wind. Kevbone you don't know shit about the JT climate apparently. Maybe you should stick to giving advice about things you know a lot about - like hand-drilling in basalt... or maybe spelling and grammar. How many times have you been to JT? ...or maybe somebody just told you about it once during a pole-smoking session? -
The team that scores the most points usually wins.

Is that the Index-Galena road?

The world is just a little bit safer place tonight. I think this is the biggest victory so far in the war on terror I think I'll probably frame this and hang it in my kitchen. Thanks. Good night!

Traditional Workouts=Ice Climbing Strength?

OK, let’s talk about the cables. Do you respect first accents above all else. I do. I give it up for the FA, EVEN IF I DON’T AGREE WITH IT. They got there first. Well if you do respect the FA, the piss off with the attitude about taking the cables out. Maybe we should take the bolts out of snake dike too! Or better yet, all the bolts on El Cap. Including the anchors. The cable route on the back of Half Dome was put up sometime around the turn of the century. I would say that gives the right to keep it the way it is. Respect who came before you! You have poop for brains. I like you.
