Cool photos / video both Dave and Hampshire!!!

Hampshire- I prefer Alaskan Summer Ale!! Do you have any cool photos from your tip? You had the right idea flying into the base of 11,300. Did you meet the two east coast guys that made the second ascent of the season?

Above the grey rock bivy site was the worst of the trenching and with all seriousness I made a trench so high or I guess deep that I could not reach the top with my arm fully extended with a tool in my hand. I was forced to climb out of the trench after about two hrs of wet sugary leading. All in all it was a great learning experience.

Trip: Alaska Range - Peak 11,300Date: 4/22/2010Trip Report:Here is a video I made from our trip into the Alaska Range this past April. [video:vimeo] Alaska Range Spring 2010 from Daniel Harro on Vimeo. Gear Notes:.4-#3 Camelot and #11 BD hex1 Picket4 screwsSingle rope with tag line

I would look at 7mm if I were you. I went to AK this spring with a 6mm tag line and it only lasted 8-10 raps before the sheath got cut, maybe a 7mm would be more durable? It was a 6mm PMI cord. I guess it could depend on the rock and how many raps you are planning on, but I wouldnt count on it lasting too long...

I will buy some...Seems like a great idea!

oh I have the Cierzo 30L pack and it is nice when fully loaded but sucks when it is only half full due to the compression straps and the fact that the lid is not removable... I have 30+ days with my 30L worksac and its the pack that I would suggest....
-
Cilo 30L worksac is all you need...

I use my spinner leashes a lot on some single pitch climbs for training for the multi pitch stuff. Its more for me getting used to them and learning some of the tricks...

pdk- Better to have the biner fly into his hand than the tool fly into his face.... I don't know what type of umbilicals he was using but remember that the BD ones are only rated to 450 lb. Enough to keep your tool from falling to the ground....

Dane- I sent you an email. And as far as the striker goes I have had bad luck in the past with those damn things, seems like they are not reliable if they get wet so I always brought a lighter anyways....

Pump and white gas is better, as far as canister stoves I used mine a fair bit and brought it to AK last spring and it worked super well. If I needed a stove for winter I would get the Reactor for sure, much better (pot size) for melting snow. As far as the CO issue goes I recall Colin and Rolo getting mild CO poisoning with their jetboil on their The Torre Traverse....you need to be careful with any stove.

good work Dave and John!! -
I have also been very impressed with mine, it suprised me how dry I was last spring on a very cool wet night at the base of Mt stuart. I thoght for sure we were going to get soaked but sure enough we were dry. I do recomend bringing a small pack towel to wipe condinsation in the morning...
