  1. here's a classic! http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/472198/site_id/1#import
  2. please post a TR...that should be entertaining....is it a themed cruise? Singles, swingers, gay, retired etc....? lot's of pics from silver fox nite on the promenade please!
  3. The rock can be amazing....really amazing, but it can also be slammed shut, scary-loose and really run-out on marginal gear and hard climbing. The climbing there (at least on the west side) really starts around 5.10, perhaps with a few exceptions.....so there's not so much easy, fun stuff to do as in the Bugs. It's like the evil bastard twin of the Bugs . New routeing there requires a bolt or two, big balls or both .... The routes i've done/seen there are sandbagged and feel really committing....I can see why Fred would like it
  4. We saw another party on the Ironman...we watched them until dark below the last pitch and never saw them descend....we were wondering what happened? I heard later it was Fred....I'd like to hear how it went.
  5. Trip: The Adamants - Various Date: 7/23/2007 Trip Report: On the 23rd of July a friend from Squamish and myself flew into the Unicorn basin below the West Buttress of the Horn. This was my second visit to the area.....last years TR is here: LINK The primary goal of the trip was field work for my MSc and a bit o' climbering. After having to bail last year, my main climbing goal was to climb the West Buttress of the Horn, a stunning ~20 pitch route similar to the BC in the bugs. We warmed up with a quick ascent of the Gibson-Rohn route on Ironman, one of the best routes I've done anywhere. After sitting in the rain for three days we sent the Horn all free in a day, completing a difficult two pitch variation on the first tower, likely the third all-free one-day ascent of this outstanding route. There remains a lot of unclimbed rock and big objectives in the Adamants for the committed. Here's some pics, enjoy! Adamants Panorama Camp below The Horn Our variation on the Horn(a pic from last year's attempt) Headwall splitter on the first tower Shawn at the base of the second tower Summit of The Horn Iron Man High on Iron Man Bath Time! Gear Notes: Double cams to #2 + one #3 & #4 walking axe and crampons Approach Notes: CMH Chopper

  7. Climb On in Squamish
  8. just like a reverso, but it's easier to understand if you see one.... also, the red posts can be adjusted with two allan wrenches for smaller ropes, ala reversino...and it feeds and raps smooth like an old atc. no sharpness issues and lighter than all of them as well.
  9. Vancouver B.C.

  12. Does anyone know how to get in contact with Alan Kearney? I heard he lives in this area.....I'd like to talk to him aout climbing in Torres del Paine......thanks!
  13. This is awful. My condolences.
  14. why can't they make the planes out of the same material as the black box?
  15. No, my buddy broke his foot ....maybe some other time.
  16. Way to go Eiji!
  17. In terms of the work....I know that many of us here would be happy to volunteer some time to help sort the database and do data entry.....just ask. A map based search function would be a start (google earth allows this I think, and could be linked to topographical info?), from there individul peaks/crags anywhere on the planet where there are TRs could be accessed and cross-referenced to route beta. The main page for a peak/crag should have a updatable list of routes with a general outline/description and a place for conditions/route beta.....finally there should be a link to the personal TRs. Whatever you guys end up doing...you have a real opportunity to create something amazing and useable considering the wealth of info here. There are tons of people who use this site who can offer support and help....particularly since this area is such an IT hotbed. With a little tweaking and a logical, interactive graphical interface this database could be one of the more useable on the web.
  18. Hi Timmy, I would love to see a model similar to the one they have on mountainproject.com It is very user friendly. There is so much great information on this site regarding trip reports and beta but sometimes it is difficult to find...... I would hate to see the personal character of the trip reports here get lost, but some middle between the two models would be cool. Perhaps general beta to the areas with direct link to trip report database?
  19. I was wondering if anyone can tell me the story behind the routes on the headwall? Apparently, from looking at the guidebook, most of the hard routes on that wall were either retro bolts of trad leads or projects that never got finished. Did the FA give permission to retro bolt that route "While the Cats Away..."? From the sounds of it the original style of that wall was trad and the various hard bolted routes are in a state disrepair and were never even led.
  20. it's 5.9 ....but could feel harder depending on how you do it.... it's a fun pitch
