  1. No actually, her end came when the Tea Party realized 'Michele Bachmann was all about Michelle Bachmann'. But I say she had that crazy face! Palin only freaked me out when she spoke.
  2. Actually, you are very much correct, G. Talk about a bunch of gun-totin' homosexuals here and that's one reason I'm leaving Alaska. I'll visit, but I need a real live honest-to-goodness man. Things sure have changed in this state. Well that rules out anything west of Ellensburg! Maybe you should take some Spanish lessons?
  3. Don't forget the f%@!ing patchouli!
  4. Nope, all sorts of havoc here in Wyoming as entire landscapes and basins are turned into industrial sites. We are an energy driven economy and that's what matters most to D.C. Look on the bright side, wind is a whole lot cleaner and greener than so called clean natural gas.
  5. Who smells worse? And more importantly which one is more like to have crabs?
  6. Wonder if wookies and marmots are compatible..........
  7. I'm not, I said "gun culture" and it isn't like a gun self reproduces, WE demand more and more firepower. And we're the ones who elect idiots simply because they tell us we should be able to have any weapon we want and bring it anywhere we go. What the fleep are folks so afraid of? Just tired of folks whose only political and cultural value seems to be the supremacy of firepower. In this case, Rangers (and not just the LE types) are the ones who have to face the consequences.
  8. Personally I'd say the take home of this has to be something about bad plastic surgery! At least Palin didn't have a fake face......
  9. Couldn't resist this one. Poisoned cat stew.....
  10. Kinda seems like the one clear thing (was it PTSD?, was he in the rear in a trailer or exposed to combat?, etc.) was the influence of GUN CULTURE. Keep in mind he was at a "show and tell" gun New Year's party just before this and whatever went down there was what set things in motion. It is known he was one of the folks who pulled a weapon but who shot whom is not clear yet. Probably safe to assume he knew he was on the hook for at least several counts of attempted murder and he fled the party, loaded up his rig and fled for the woods. He probably thought the Park Service Rangers had called his plates in. So he comes out blazing...... Leaving the 2nd Amendment out of this (maybe a spray thread?), it does seem clear at this point that Barnes was heavily addicted to his guns. Some folks seem to have identified themselves more with the power to take life than the power to change their lives. Almost as if the answer to pain, powerlessness and hopelessness nowadays is a warm gun. I found that pic of him with the Saiga 12 gauge to be pretty creepy. More so because in part we have not seen the last of this (Gifford?) but also because he actually acted on rhetoric that is so prevalent in our country now. Is this really so shocking and unforeseeable? My 2 cents is that he probably was a big fan of that Stallone movie First Blood and acted it out.
  11. PS There's something pretty funny (hilarious actually) about those skis: They have a "Green Core" meaning they use locally sourced wood--i.e. Chinese wood!
  12. The big thing in determining value of goods is condition, so are these new or have they been mounted (i.e. somebody pulled their binding off of them)? If used what shape is the base in (scores, core shots, dried up)? Those are pretty slick touring skis, have them mounted with Silvrettas and they have enough camber that they glide well and are just fat enough to float. You'll probably want skins for these too if you are planning on anything off of packed trails and flats.
  13. You meant 'can I use a SNOW SHOVEL to dig....." The f!ing thing is not a board and it does have two handles, just no shaft, which is probably confusing to ya.....
  14. Ditto... I have had to face this kinda thing (turned out to be false alarm) and it really was an eye opener. Does make one wonder what the hell is wrong with people. All this chaos on the first day of 2012. P.S. Some of comments on some of these news webpages..
  15. Had a partner on a longish alpine climb who had the yellow plastic pommel of his Matrix Tech snap off seemingly on its own mid-lead. So after that I went with the Matrix Light and Horns and really like the swing.
  16. One other thought: Folks who go on ill-advised solo trips and get into trouble become the poster boys for those who want to require sat. beacons, high use fees or strict regulations--ALL OF WHICH AFFECT THOSE OF US WHO DO KNOW WHAT WE'RE DOING!! Had a fellow that showed up here in Wyoming and has been rescued twice in three trips, last one was that he got stuck in deep snow and wore himself out and hit the "I need medical help immediately" button on his beacon and almost triggered his SECOND helicopter rescue. The only reason the helicopter didn't come is that it got diverted to a double fatality in the Tetons (if I recall correctly). As I recall he wasn't far from a snowshoeing/ski trail that was well broken.
  17. Prince you're being a bit stubborn.... Let's say you combine a screamer and a non-locking belay device. So you're telling me you want your belayer to have to deal with a MOVING belay device (nevermind the noise and distraction) as the screamer rips???????? There are enough elements in the system that cushion the impact force already (i.e. putting the screamer on the pro WHERE IT IS DESIGNED TO GO!). Others include rope stretch, using a DMM Revolver, the belayer being MOVED (remember the belayer is not a static anchor like a bolt), or the belayer (GASP) actually either moving deliberately or taking in slack.........
  18. That technology already exists, google "TeflonĀ® with Radiance"; folks are perfecting the pan coating, seems like titanium is NOT the ideal pan material with the exception of true ultralight applications (i.e. using a titanium pan with an xgk doesn't make much sense, but with the simmerlite or OD1R might). Besides aluminum pans are now quite durable as they are anodized, which is why MSR seems to be shifting towards anodized uncoated aluminum and away from titanium.
  19. Gotta say having used a pressure regulated stove (and also a pressure regulated coleman heater for that matter) I am NEVER going back to a non-regulated canister stove....
  20. Soto od1r!
  21. Might be a bit of self interest here, but I'd say keep an eye on the yard sale!
  22. Got a Sterling Nano that I really like, they (Sterling) have 50 meter ropes for sale direct, it is double rated as well.......
  23. Best to you and your family Dane!
  24. Softshell by definition is not waterproof. Mine are!!!!!! Softshell refers more to the handling than any thing else, yes they can be waterproof.
  25. using those straps.... seriously. Sometimes I strap the pons onto an ice axe to keep all those points of the pack fabric entirely, and just strap the axe on as I normally would.
