Yeah you will have the guy who is a complete idiot! I remember Ron Paul speaking in 1988 and thinking where the hell did they find the freak. His whole schtick is being 'that guy', who will take the far extreme of an issue not because it makes any sense whatsoever, but simply because it is the far extreme. There is certainly a role for such a person in a deliberative body like either house of Congress, but in no way should such a person be the sole executive power. Or put another way, it's not quite a village unless there's an idiot, just not with the idiot as the mayor.

Well I'll put it this way: which party establishment do you support in a GOP primary? Paul's been in Washington forever, he just has a diffy style, but it's the same big government is controlling your life BS we see in every GOP platform. Put another way, he's the current face of the same old evangelical/corporate establishment we saw with the Tea Party, Palin, W, Quayle, etc. etc.

OK OK, I'll leave the Bacon bit alone. On a separate note I have been wondering why I haven't heard much from Santorum & Co. on his Italian heritage. Turns out there's a reason: they're staunch liberals and communists! And Too Many Icecubes
-
Not sure that'd work out for ya, seeing as how well cooked the Bacon forum turned out to be.

I hear the big diff vs. the Sounders is that in PDX there are no soccer moms.
-
I didn't know he was hanging out with Damon Stoudemire and Rasheed Wallace!
-
What's a tricorn? Nevermind, figures he wouldn't use the correct--French--spelling. I thought you might be referring to something going on in Pasco.
-
Besides, as an Italian-American Catholic, I have to imagine he is outraged dirtbag Americans elitist snobs chopped Cesare Maestri's masterpiece. Although I have no idea where he'd fall in the climbing spectrum since he is dead set against using protection.
-
No you'll be pregnant the rest of the time.
-
I can see why you'd vote for Paul--IN THE GOP PRIMARY--but not for the reason you give. Sheesh! What impeccable logic.
-
PS Have to wonder why he doesn't go by "Dick" instead of "Rick"? Maybe he figured nobody would vote for Dick Scrot[or]um?
-
Careful what you wish for.... I can see a world, a Rick Santorum world, where men are men (working, bringing home bacon), women are at home (knocked up and/or cooking bacon in a pan) and it would be a complete disaster for climbers. For one thing, I'd have to work year-round and for another I'd not only have to find a woman, but I'd have to support both of us AND knock her up, I mean how does this leave any time or money to go on month long bouldering trips? While the absence of females (due to barefooted bacon cooking duties) at crags and especially bouldering areas could be seen by some to be an improvement, especially when one can look forward to an apres climb bacon dish waiting at home, I for one would mourn the loss of my ultimate dream: not working at all due to my stinking rich spouse.

It's a useful thing to report these sightings, or better yet to document tracks, for wildlife purposes as well. Here in Wyo we were having problems with antler hunters running ATV's in all sorts of places they shouldn't go and it was the Game Wardens and not the feds with their britches in a bunch as it had a big effect on deer and especially elk.
-
Actually, no, I really had no idea what you were talking about.
-
Or come out swinging with a lead pipe stick-clip?

Your ethics are what should drive you, not the acts of others. I have had a few rather humorous run ins with motorized folks rushing up on what they thought was a meek hiker. Next time try jumping up and down while holding your balls. You'd be surprised.
-
I kinda think the issue you all seem to want to ignore is the close high speed pass technique used on Tyson.g. Kinda rude and kinda dumb. If one rushed up on a pedestrian like that with a motorcycle, there is no doubt one is sending a message and might get into real trouble aka 'get off my lawn' or with the PD.

"stop telling ourselves lies about the risk"
Coldfinger replied to genepires's topic in Climber's Board
my shoulder, which is going to have to be repaired soon, begs to differ Sorry to hear that Minx, on the positive side, I have a good friend who had shoulder surgery at our age and it turned out just fine, just took a bit of time to recover. He does have the knack for letting an injury heal tho, one of the many fringe benefits of having a non-climbing life too. So just get it done! You'll be that closer to recovery. I've just seen A LOT more carnage in full contact sports, that's all, and there are full contact climbs out there. -

In comparison to resort Alpine skiing, my two cents: I do have to add that one nice thing about climbing is that while there are objective hazards, accidents caused by climber ignorance, fatigue, confusion or mistake and also environmental risks (HACE, hypothermia, etc.), climbing has fewer risks than skiing when one looks at the kind of joint damage--knees in particular--typical in long time skiers. I don't know ANYONE who has blown out a knee climbing. I know quite a few people that have blown knees or are having a ton of trouble just getting around in their 50's from skiing. I would also add that climbing as a sport has far less risk than sports like football, hockey and rugby in terms of the risk of head injury (not to mention all sorts of bruises, tears, breaks, strains, pulls and sprains). -
+2 for classes also. We have all sorts of folks cratering in snow gullies here, they have great ice axes, but the knowledge is what failed them, and off they go in a chopper to the ICU.

I thought fat boys and tough guys were at opposite ends of the real man spectrum.

I think Minx meant that you should switch hands and post about that.
