  1. I'll add one more thing: Despite protestations here that the assassin was "crazy", he is going to have a VERY hard time asserting an insanity defense: "But Paul Callan, a criminal defense attorney and a former prosecutor, and Jeff Gardere, a clinical and forensic psychologist, told CNN's American Morning Tuesday they have doubts that an insanity plea would stand. With the "amount of planning that went into this assassination," Callan believes "it's highly unlikely he will meet the legal insanity defense threshold." Simply being evil does not on its own make one insane......
  2. Rob..... It is VERY clear from what has emerged that the assassin had political motivation, no matter how nutty he is. And its is also VERY clear this is far from the first killing motivated by a certain political creed, it was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
  3. A good example of the rhetoric: Florida conservative radio host Joyce Kauffman took heat after remarking at a Tea Party rally, "If ballots don't work, bullets will."
  4. Sheriff Dupnick said it all: "Tucson and Arizona and the rest of the country have become very divided by a lot of the rhetoric that exists, particularly over the radio waves and some TV air, which is designed, in my opinion, to inflame the public against public officials, elected officials, government and the administration," Dupnik said in an interview with CNN.com. "And that kind of an atmosphere, in my opinion, influences people who are not stable -- people who have troubled personalities."
  5. Well not EVERYONE is doing anything to discourage it, quite the opposite, very hypocritical when some ride that wave into power and then disown whatever else washes up on the beach. The anti-American part is this idea that anyone who disagrees is the enemy--a very prevalent theme. How many assassinations have been on behalf of the platform of that group, seriously? The numbers speak for the dead.
  6. Agreed. So the right really needs to back off with all their hate talk. you assume they don't want to reap what they've been sowing I was also thinking that they have actively and deliberately made use of ANGER (i.e. Paladino) and guns in their speech, so whether or not the assassin was motivated by the "toxicity" and "bigotry" (BTW it DOES mean something when a Sheriff uses those kinds of words) is one thing, they can't then have their cake and eat it too when someone takes their nut talk (Paladino, Beck, Palin) and actually walks the talk.
  7. Looks like the H1N1 virus may offer super immunity to flu strains and the holy grail of flu shots: Pig Shot
  8. Gee maybe we need to take a cue from Nordic Biathalon...... Combine sport climbing with marksmanship?
  9. Sweet Manifesto! Even has a citation to Wiki...... Maybe it should've been "Loony Larry" or "Liberty Larry"? Basic law of existence is you reap what you sow, so no real mystery this is the upteenth shooting rampage this year.
  10. agreed, but if you want to really do something about the right's message, which has been in use since jesus was still shitting in his drawers, your only option is to adopt the same tone and advocate the same tactics, which gets you where exactly? otherwise, it's shrieking into the whirlwind. Naw, just be chill and kind, little things count too. If that doesn't work, go climbing!
  11. it's not about polarizing tone but about message content. Class warfare waged by the wealthy and their political stooges is polarizing. But let's not kid ourselves: the right wing message for so long has been about fear and hate, calls to murder in the media (Assange, Chavez, etc..), demonizing and threats against government employees, demonizing of immigrants and Arabs, treachery and terror, renewing the tree of liberty while packing guns that were banned until a few years ago, denying that millions of innocents die because of our military adventurism, etc ... You certainly won't find an equivalent message coming from the left. Well said!
  12. Howdy, looking to climb at either Hyalite or Cody. Thanks!
  13. Huh? Crazy people not representative of politics? This incident is one of many that arise out of one despicable method of discourse, not in spite of it! Tea bagging being fruit of the same tree......
  14. It's EVIDENCE......
  15. BALONEY! It happened b/c of the kook extremist distortion of what are constitutional rights and what must be done to restore them.
  16. Well, one of his favorite books was Mein Kampf and he complained of the "second constitution", so he ain't no lefty. Very common for unbalanced folks to make radical swings from one end of the scale to another, but a fairly clear picture is starting to emerge of his views. Let's hope for the best for those that survived and the families of all victims.
  17. That this is "news" really says something about where we are!
  18. Point being I seriously doubt you have anywhere the expertise of a doctor or the particular doctors who found Mr. Quack was unfit due to fraud, but you offer your opinion as if it is equal to their expertise. So what do you think your "research" really amounts to? Birther, 9/11, what?
  19. Too bad they don't do LARGE print, Old, er Lucky Larry!
  20. Maybe there's a link here not with vaccines but overprescription of ADHD meds?
  21. Well it's your grasp of them........
  22. I think a steady diet of either tofu or Doritos has the same result.
  23. OK let's settle it this way: WWSD? That's what would [agent] Scully do? I'm pretty sure the alien hybrid baby still gets the MMR if she has anything to do with it. On the bright side, I'm pretty sure most folks heading to Asia on climbing trips are getting good vaccinations and boosters, I haven't turned into a half grey yet.
  24. Like I said earlier, I'll leave it to competent professional licensing boards and prestigious publications like the Lancet over some wiki-kook.
  25. For such a challenger of "FACTS" you certainly are jumping around facts and to conclusions. Nice use of the straw man BTW. So where's the link between MMr and autism and why exactly did the 4 kids die and was it from autism? KOOK!
