  1. dammit
  2. I'd sooner clip a pencil jammed in the sod there, but it's still fun to have your rope attached to them.
  3. Good coffee - most will say Stumptown Roasters, but there are a ton of great shops around town. Stumptown actually seems to be taking over, and will probably wind up in Seattle soon. In NE, The Albina Press is solid. Billy is a pretty solid pebble wrestler and a world champion barista. There are so many options - Costello's on Broadway, etc. Good beer - Produce Row carries the famous Terminal Gravity brews on tap, Horse Brass Pub gives the English experience complete with smoke, and the ubiquitous McMenimans taverns are fairly reliable if you're in a jam. The Rose and Raindrop is another option, and the Lucky Lab has recently been very kind to mountain rescue units. They have two locations, the original is on Hawthorne. A number of 2nd run theaters like the Laurelhurst and Baghdad let you drink while watching a movie. A nice combo. I'm sure others will ring in to point out the obvious stuff I've forgotten.
  4. Awesome work as always, Joseph. I'm assuming those ring pins on Dod's are the original hardware! I clip them for the good energy.
  5. I was on the free for some anchor and that's _exactly_ what I was thinking when I saw gear sliding down the rope. I remember him shaking back down on the ground, and he had a lot to talk about. What a battle.
  6. markd - ugh. guess I best not trust, or at least, not fall. I think joseph has been doing some work though. Also nervous on fresh squeeze - placing gear behind flakes, yarding on flakes, clipping pins, etc. Nothing like watching your friend leading devil's backbone though, as it spat out gear while he shakely hung on. yikes. thanks for all the input, better safe than sorry, or at least, sorta safe.
  7. That civilian kicked some ass eventually but that opening chicken kick was pretty sad. The body slam into the spilled slim jims was worthy.
  8. bone... this ground has been walked before, no need to rehash. Life's too short to dwell on negativity.
  9. Looks like a classic Pickets experience. Thanks for the pics.
  10. What do people think about taking whippers on pitons? Obviously there are the mank rotting ones that come out when a train rolls by, but newer, well-placed ones seem solid enough. The place I like to climb features a lot of them and I'm pretty confident after taking some short falls, but I've never seen a study on the matter. Starting to get on routes where the likelyhood of a big whip on one is a good possibility, and would like to get the "you're nuts" commentary before actually doing something that is nuts. Or maybe it's perfectly safe. They don't move when tapped, that's for sure. Sorry for the ignorance, but I don't bang a lot of iron (slooow pitch right over the plate...)
  11. No one deserves to die slowly from burns, not even Stalin.
  12. This one's for the fans:
  13. You can see what he's been working on there just recently to the right of that route: http://www.bigupproductions.com/ Go to "Extras" and click on "Three Degrees". Those have to be some hard throws if dynoboy can't make them! Again, what a beautiful cliff. I wish I could climb hard enough to justify a trip to that wall. France rocks!
  14. 1) Sitting on a mesa in SE Utah canyonlands at sunset. 2) Skiing waist-deep powder under a full moon. Or pretty much any powder skiing really. Preferably somewhere you can't get lost. 3) Watching a winter storm battering the Pacific coastline. 4) Sitting on the porch with a glass of wine!
  15. I wish there was more of this kind of footage. Super interesting.
  16. I only came back for you baby
  17. Great, I'm not sure when I'm going to be out there yet, but thanks for the offer! Kevin - there's some pretty solid greenery on Bluebird/Direct right now. I managed to garden Wrong Gull the other day, so the holds are visible again.
  18. even a bolt hater has to admit that wall is a gorgeous chunk of stone. Perhaps the most beautiful sport climbing destination...
  19. I may be there taking a blowtorch and hedge trimmers to Bluebird
  20. I crossed that sucker a bunch of times when I was in college there, wow. Having been a diver for some research in the Mississippi there, I can say with confidence those recovery divers have probably the worst job in the world right now.
  21. How about that cameo by Barack Obama at 2:40m left in the video?
  22. ah yes, I remember belaying you on pipeline ivan, and instead of choosing the sweet splitter crack in front of you, you veer off left in to chossville, pop. ivan. I should have left some gear in for you to follow, or chalked it up a bit more. I'll call that undercling on loose blocks "the crazy ivan" variation. Might see you out there at some point Fri/Sat.
  23. this is incredible. please, someone verify
  24. camo plates! awesome. But why would I want to sample global war?
  25. You haven't done anything. All these dudes are a bunch of hounds apparently.
