    Seoul???

Watch out for flashers at the climbing wall! I know a few folks who encountered them.
  2. Water, so the hourglass is just left of your red line in the first photo? (about 1/2 way up the face after traversing?)
  3. Thanks so much for the info on Globalstar. I'd found some rumblings on the web about that but they weren't as clear as you folks. Iridium it is!
  4. Hopefully, I wont have to make any calls, because if I do, it probably means something went wrong...
  5. My job takes me to remote locations around North America and I recently got approval to get (rent or own) a sat phone for emergency work use. I was wondering if anyone has experiences with Iridium or Globalstar (or any others for that matter). I don't know much about this and can use whatever info you have. Thanks
  6. this might be for you: http://corvallis.craigslist.org/spo/1641491020.html Old Forrest 2nd tool & chuinard screw (I am not the seller, just thought someone might be interested)
  7. For S. Sister, the slog from bachelor sucks no matter how you do it, overnight on one push. If you do decide to go, the ramp off the summit is an amazing ski descent. I would recommend waiting until the road is open...
  8. Hopefully some of the legal fallout sticks to this little fuck and we don't have to hear his BS for a long time.
  9. It's about bloody time SOMETHING happened in congress!
  10. First Commercial Jetpack $75,000 WANT! I am gonna blow the El Cap speed record out of the water with this baby.

  16. I am in full support of helmets always, but I really dont know if a helmet would have done you any good in this situation. If the big block had hit you, a helmet would have been flattened and your neck would likely be the injury. If the shattered pieces from it hitting the ledge hit you, they would have been going up, and thus the helmet would not be protecting anything unless it wrapped the back of your head. Just a thought. Even still, Wear your helmet!
  17. ...because you were one, yes? Thats you in the photo isn't it!
  18. Cut and Pasted from a blog, but I figured this might be nice for some folks to see here too. I spent a summer working for the USFS on Deschutes National Forest doing trail work, and during that time, I was able to hike a majority of the trails available in Deschutes NF. Throughout the summer I took some quick notes on which trails were worth hiking again and when to hike them. Seeing as this is a very outdoorsy group, I thought it would be a good thing to share some of that knowledge with everyone. This hiking is on the east side of the cascades, typically within a 45 minute drive or less of Bend. The more-or-less “official” trail name is followed by a description. Trails to hike in the Spring: Metolius River East and West; Two trails travel down stream from where the river emerges out of the ground from under Black Butte through INCREDIBLE wildflowers from may to July. The river level is constant year round, allowing moisture loving wildflowers to have year roud water in an otherwise dry, arid landscape. Morning and evening brings out the charismatic mega-fauna (CMF’s) that we all love to see. This trail is not difficult at all, and there are several locations where dirt roads allow for vehicle shuttle parking. Park Meadow; a long day of hiking through endless lava flows covered in lodgepole forest emerges into a large perfect meadow with views of all the Sisters and Broken Top. This can be done as a full day daytrip, or an overnight (with a scramble up Middle Sister if you are feeling strong. Bring your camera for the view from the meadow. 3 Finger Jack/PCT; Hike along a section of the Pacific Crest Trail and see the 2003(?) B&B Fire rejuvenate itself as time goes on. Due to the lack of trees, you get excellent views in every direction as you climb the ridge to the base of 3FJ. The species of plants and animals occupying this area is drastically different from what was here before, but no less amazing to see and hear. Trails to hike in the Summer: Lava Camp Lake to Scott Pass; Starting at Lava Camp Lake, hike a very steep trail through massive old growth western hemlock and emerge amidst two pristine alpine lakes nestled in the craters of several geologically recent lava flows. This ideal lunch spot overlooks EVERYTHING! (Mary’s Peak to the Ochocos, Mt Jefferson to Mt. Thielsen). For you who are not familiar with those peaks, that is 150+ miles in every direction. From the coast to nearly 300 miles inland. Keep an eye out for Horny Toads (actually a species of lizard), deer, Pine Marten, and butterflies in the meadows. Tam Macarthur Rim; Start at a large alpine lake and gradually hike up a rim trail that puts you atop a thousand foot wall directly above where you started. Continue on to the base of Broken Top’s jagged peaks to add another 2 miles. The rim is another amazing lunch spot or campsite opportunity. This trail is also great for XC winter camping trips Green Lakes to Soda Creek Trail; If you can survive the crowds on Green Lakes trail, continue on 1/3 of the way around the base of Broken Top through seeping springs above alpine meadows and drop back down to the parking lot on Soda Creek Trail. This trail is unique for its flower diversity and longevity because numerous springs emerge along the trail allowing wildflowers which aren’t usually found in the area to grow in giant colorful fields. One of my absolute favorites! Your roundtrip distance is 5-7 miles (going off memory) with moderate elevation gain. And for you Mountain Bikers out there; Mountain Biking: Deschutes River Trail: Offers easy riding in a gorgeous setting. (a “girlfriend” trip, if you’ll pardon the expression) Mt. Bachelor to Lava Lake: Winding trails allow a lot of fast riding. Mrazic Trail: The “best” according to the locals. 3,000ft + elev. loss Bachelor To Bend: Some of the most varied riding I have ever done. 3,000ft elev. loss I hope this helps a few of you who live in the area, or are visiting!
  19. We bought the house in Feb 2 years ago, and my wife made the mistake of leaving for a week in March. When she came home I was putting the holds up. Pretty much got home from work every day that week, cracked a brew, and worked till 3am rockin out to a boombox. Power tools and beer are fun!
  20. are you checking your text messages in the middle of being tied up with 4 aiders!! AyeYayYay!
  21. Apparently a climber was a little too close to the cornice and it collapsed. Oregonian says as of this evening they had located him but not retrieved him yet. He was blasting away on his emergency whistle though, which I guess is a good sign. Hopefully he isn't injured too badly and gets pulled out fast.

  24. I have a fairly regular couple folks coming by to boulder in my garage cave every week. I would like to extend the invitation to any Corvallis folks who are tired of climbing at the OSU gym to come and play here. We will be bouldering this afternoon at 4 and probably at least one other time during each work week. It isn't the tallest wall in the world, but you can set your own routes, and drink a beer while you climb! If you are interested, pm me or call five09-5three9-8780
  25. Methinks she fits in well in Spray. New Minx understudy?
