Moderate winter one day objectives? What to climb?
jmace replied to Tanner's topic in British Columbia/Canada
The Stawamus river Road was closed for the season on Dec 03, makes for a long walk. I would take Dru's advice and call ski capilano. Better would be his suggestion of Blanshard, I would go via Alouette. Fri might even work out for you WX wise, but its movin in quick. J -

Harvey Ramp is not in, was in that area on Sunday. It was plus 5 on top of Cypress yesterday. The Storms keep comin from the south. If any snow falls on the mountains after the cold sunny temps on the weekend I would STAY AWAY for awhile. Welch, I suppose how far you make it up the road, I was there about 3 weeks ago and it took me a couple of hours to reach the lake from a couple of switch backs down. Fuck ya on the ski capilano thing, I will be checkin that out, I wonder if you can stay overnight since the 9:30 take off time is a tad late. -
I forgot to mention, Hermann Buhl Nanga Parbat. The dude is so tough!! and his skiing partner, man those guys are my heroes. J

Ice Suggestions for Weekend - Alpine or Crags?
jmace replied to TrogdortheBurninator's topic in Climber's Board
I dont think your gonna find wet snow, its bee pretty cold out for the last week or so with the exception of this morning. Probably a wack load of fresh powder by tomorrow though. -

Its the first thing you come too, the lower part of the crack being waaay too bottoming for any gear so there is an old bolt, then you can get gear a ways higher. Theres more than one route, Nicks trick is good, the other dyke route that leads you to the second pitch of sunblessed is good and well protected... awesome area, you get a summit, and Sublessed is by far worth of every star it has!!!!

Went up for a quick looksee on Sunday before the game, snow begins just before the parking spot. Snow becomes thigh to waist deep by the lake, so we turned around in time for the game.

Yep at most 5.8, its fun and the only thig a shame is that someone put a couple of bolts on it that had to be removed, now its 3 chopped ugly bolts. If you cant climb to the first bolt you are not going to be able to do the last pitch whose bolt is high as well. I dont think any one needs to mess with a 3 1/2 star route, routes get those stars for being, well protected, good stances and well spaced bolts. The route rocks, do Nicks Trick if you dont like Sunblessed's first bolt. J

In that picture they are using the wrist loops as the tie in point, I was under the impression this is not a full strength sling, and it would be better to use the hole in the bottom or top of the axe? I could be wrong though J

What a climb, I did this route in the summer of 03, last weekend in august I had no problems with shrunds or cornices, I stayed on the rock ridge the entire time and it took forever we flew in to Zenith col then hiked out via lovely water. Good times.

Ok of course its all preference but I swung the cobras for a weekend --> they suck!! First of all they are heavy and they pumped me out so quick and they are fat handled, yes I am a small guy so big guys probably have the juice tio swing em. the picks are thick though and compared to the quarks they were so hard to get out of the ice, every time I wanted to move it was a struggle to get them out. Reminded me of my Grivel Rambo 2 big honking burly pick thats great for mixed but god awlful for pure ice. Hands down the quarks are the best, easy to swing easy to control and go in and out of the ice nice!!! I have the Aztars and they feel a tad too light but I can swingem all day j

Any one driven over the pass recently, I know the road bulletin says 1 foot at the pass which is driveable but it would be nice to know if there is a track set. Thanks J

What is it you need to know? the glacier is still there, Mike M says you can drive to the trailhead, the weather is perfect for the next few days, no new snow..... sounds good to me I would be there if I didnt have to work

Sorry, dont quite get that, what do they mean when they say Bush recevied the majority and he was the first to do that since 88?
-
Another quick question: if most people on this board think Bush is stupid and a very bad president yet he receives more votes than any president since 88, where does that leave you? I.E your argument is the majority of americans are ill informed and dont think for themselves or the majority of americans think like bush....? I just was wondering after reading all these posts about how wrong he is yet he is your president, how do you rationalize it?
-
Just a quick question: so all those peole that say you invaded Iraq for the wrong reasons, does that imply that you shouldnt have invaded iraq at all or you should have done it for different reasons.

Back country dog is right, it may be a rare occurence but it only needs to happen once, its pretty easy to replicate try it on a bolt.

Its too bad the search function on this site is so weird, if you have some time to search there has been a lot of discussion on this topic.

I thonk its about 400 bucks for the install, of course it will vary from shop to shop, also Im not sure if the air compressor is included in the price for your locker, probably not so might need to add a 200 bucks to that locker. Again that is the nicest locker around, so you could save a few buck by gonig with a differnt brand. if you get really serious you should contact your local 4wd store. but thats the approximate price range.
