My wife and I will be there for our anniversary and would like some suggestions

I am a PA and have been for the last 10 years. I love my gig and think highly of the field. Don't limit your choice of schools to the U.W. as they are very strict on wanting at least 3 years experience in med fields before applying. Most schools look for this but don't always require it. Find some people you can shadow before you apply.

Nice Esugi, We met Justin and Mike on Forbidden a few days later and they were still psyched about that trip. They surely got a nice taste of the cascades while they were up here.

Thanks Tazz and Sprocket! Looks like a go for me. I wonder if it would be worth riding a bike up the road from the gate? Prob a pain on the way up but a dream on the way down.

Has anybody been up there recently and have info about what shape the coulior is in? Thanks

i learned to drive on my dad's old '66 squareback that had 300 k on the original dual carbs. The sucker was getting 36 mpg . no heater though and the battery was propped up behind the driver seat on boards due to all the rust. great times!

Thanks for the great advice, Mark. I think the key is in finding miniadventures for the kids. There will be four kids and 4 adults and among all toughness varies as in any subset. No video game players here but certainly different constitutions to our makeups. Cheers to all for the great advice. Can we just go up to the ski area and start walking up the hill and bring sleds? I have never been there so I am not sure if this is ok?

Thanks all for the great suggestions. I will pull out some maps and try to put some of these places in context. Any more suggestions would be welcome! Thanks again everyone. Jeff

This coming weekend, the wife and I are taking the kids up to a place called Snow Water near Mt. Baker. I was wondering if anybody has any ideas about good family hikes that would be reasonable for kids in the 8 and 6 year old range and hopefully close to where we are staying (If anybody knows where Snow Water is, I don't know) I don't know the area very well so keep that in mind. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Climbing Following ACL Reconstuction
chesterboo replied to ericb's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
Eric, I had ACL reconstruction 5 years ago. Now both of my knees feel the same and I am happy. I followed the advice of the surgeon and did extensive pt for first 3 months. I started in doing my first long backpacking trip of 50 miles 6 months after the surg. I skied the next season but with a brace. After that it has been fine. You may be ok to do some of the activities that you are excited to get back into and odds are you would be, but studies show that your graph and musculature around it are not near 100% for 9-12 months. I was even told that full healing can take as long as 2 years from surg. The way I see it, you have put so much time, energy, frustration and general screwing up of your plans for the whole spring, why waste all that because you wanted to get out and push it early. My surgeon told me that every year you have those young fit hot shots (usually snowboarders) who get back at it after 3 months and screw up their graph and they are back for more. Think about how bad that would suck???? Chill brother and your time will come. -

Anyone used a JetBoil stove above 10,000 ft?
chesterboo replied to jstreet's topic in The Gear Critic
I used mine at Muir and it took much longer to melt snow than a white gas stove or than it would have at lower elevation. I can't give you exact times but seemed like it took forever. -
Trip: Snoqualmie Mt. - North gully Date: 5/14/2007 Trip Report: I could not rally any of the usual suspects today, so I decided to go it alone up the North facing gully on Snoqualmie. I think it may be the Enigma gully but am not really sure. Temp at the lot was 32 degrees. The trail up to Snow lake was hard as a rock and stayed that way until I got over the divide and started decending down towards snow lake. I stayed at about 4300 feet and headed east and then up to the divide that separates snow lake from the thunder creek drainage. The going up to here was mostly postholing. From the ridge, you could see the avalance fan that is the base of the coulior. I dropped down into the basin into some wet, sunsoaked powder and plodded over to where I thought the gully was and sure enough, it was there. From the looks of it, it had been skied over the weekend too. The gully up was avalanche scoured and very hard. I two tooled up it about 1500 feet in total elevation gain from its base and it popped out to look down onto the Alpental parking lots. I Plunged down to the lot via cave ridge to complete the loop. This was a nice outing and a neat little loop. The conditions in the gully are perfect now. There is still allot of snow up in the high country. Red Mountain looks skiable still too. I will post photos if I can figure it out. Gear Notes: two tools Approach Notes: via Snow lake
