  1. agreed. Not cool to start taking apart the Mountainiers organization in an iformational thread about an injured party. Know the facts before running your mouths. I seem to recall allot of injuries this spring in general, not just in mounties run climbs. 'He in glass houses...."
  2. nice work Pochi. sounds like a great time on the mountain. Did you have any Trip report fromm Hunter? Good work!!!
  3. As anybody been up there lately. Is the trailhead clear. Are snow shoes/pons needed or is it consoldated. I tried the traverse last year but was foiled by father time. Now I have the route dialed in and this has been nagging at me nearly a year now. MisterMo have you been up there?
  4. thanks for the reports. I think I will wait a bit now especially with the fresh snow.
  5. Mr. Texan, I have the helios and love it. I have used it as a belay jacket /summit jacket and I plan on using it in a light weight sleeping sytem this season. I felt that since I always carry it in my pack anyway, that I might as well lighten my sleeping bag up and use the jacket to sleep in also. The loft is very nice and warm. I hang it up after each use and it continues to be like new. It has been going in my pack weekly in a stuff sack for the last 2 years and I wear it occasionally but not always because it is very warm. Even in the winter, it would have to be very cold to actually climb in it. I am 6'2" 195 and use size xl and it fits perfect. hope that helps
  6. As anybody been in there lately. How is the road up to the lower and upper traile head of Ellinor and can you drive to the 1a trailhead of Mt. Washington. Any route info. thanks.
  7. way to go guys! sounds like allot of effort but one to put in the memory banks for some time to come.
  8. thanks Jim, I was thinking around 10,500 was the last 'campground'. I did say that we wanted a flushing toilet didn't I. I heard that the restrooms at 10,500 were always kept clean with tissues, perfumes and mouthwash. Seriously though, thanks for the beta. Jeff
  9. We are all sooo glad you shared with us. Now I feel like a peeping tom.
  10. I have just ordered one of the Cilo gear packs and I will put it on the scale when it arrives and let you know the real numbers.
  11. That is a pound more than the advertised . Is this the standard for the industry to have things weigh more than advertised? I have a feathered friends . Winter Wren bag that is "supposed to weight" 35 oz or something and when I put it on the scale it actually weighs 3 lbs. Kind of aggrivating
  12. RTFM. Oh I get it RTFM!
  13. thanks Pandora for the pics. looks to be interesting route. what is the highest point you think you could carve out a platform for a small 2 man tent.
  14. Billcoe and all, How did I get a 70 lb pack. yes I admit it must seem staggering and it felt staggering too. Probably the main reason was that I was going with my 69 year old father and I wanted him to have a relatively "easy" time on way up to Muir. So I, being the loving son that I am, carried a 3 person 4 season 12 pound tent, all the food, all the cooking gear, first aid etc.... rope, etc.... I told him to carryy his cloths and sleeping gear and harness and helmet. I should say that last year on the DC route I went with a friend and my pack leaving paradise was 40 with the rope and water. Friend had the pickets. I have a FF winter wren bag, zrest pad, and jetboil stove. I am really now trying to take less stuff. Oh by the way I now have BD first light tent. 2lbs 9 0z. My thinking is that I can cut 4 lbs off pack weight and be around 35 pound mark. I can prob find a few other things I don't really need too.
  15. So what do you think Oly and ML about the cilo packs? Since I just bought one I will keep my fingers crossed on your reviews
  16. Thanks for all the imput people. In the end I think for me it came down to the cold world packs and the cilogear. I ordered one of cilogears packs. I liked the adaptability of it and I like to support small business. If I am not happy with it, I will send it back for a refund. I will keep you all posted what I think. Thanks again. PS, if I am happy with it I may be putting a Gregory Palisades pack and an Arcteryx RT55 in the yard sale. Both in great condition!
  17. Cold cold world packs look good. I am also intrigued by the cilo gear from new york.
  18. Hey, Take it easy guys. I don't need to be insulted by people who don't even know me. Meet me and then insult me if you still want to. I was asking for some advice on good light weight packs. I am trying to lighten the load I take up the mountain. I think 8 lbs for a pack is too much.
  19. Hey phantom. we went in there on Monday. left parking lot at about 32 degrees under firm snow conditions. we got off road towards lane and were psyched about firm snow until we got to base of climb. We postholed for 1 and 1/2 hours up lovers lane and finally turned around. We kept thinking it would get harder but never firmed up. The snow was just not consolidated underneath. We felt it needed some warming and or a good rain and then some refreezing. I suppose we could have forced it but much of the way was up to thighs and then ankle deep for a few steps and then knee deep etc..... We did the south gully on guye last week and was much firmer and nice. hope that helps.
  20. Man, I have been proud of getting my load down to 35-40 lbs. IN past doing rainier I have carried 60 plus. IN fact, 5 years ago on Rainier I had 70. How much do you guys carry with a 2 man team on a 2-3 day ascent of Rainier or you pick the peak? I just feel that I could shave my pack weight pretty easy by about 3-4 lbs. thanks for all the suggestions
  21. I am looking to get lightweight alpine pack under 4 lbs to hold around 40 lbs plus or minus . I have looked at the black diamond shadow 55 and the jansport endeavor 50 that look pretty cool. any suggestions? I have Gregory palisades that is nearly 8 lbs and a 6 lb arctreryx 55 liter
  22. Thanks Mike, When I was saying that I did not think anybody had been up the SC 'lateley' I was kind of refering to within the last few years not this last winter. I tried to google some previous trip reports of that climb and did not find any. Oh well, it just adds to the intrigue for me. It looks like a good line. Do you think June is the best time? Can you go in from the west side road or should we go in at Kautz creek?
