our public schools need to include household budgeting / expense management / fiscal responsibility in secondary school curricula, IMO. Most of the populace is woefully ignorant about budgeting, saving, living within your means, investment, etc.
And the fact it's harder to get ahead has nothing to do with a bigger government and higher taxes of course. That's all taxes, by the way, not just the Federal Income Tax.

I always take Alaska Air to the Bay Area and the service has been fine. Flights are usually on time with glitches on occasion.
The one time I took UAL to/from LAX (en route to Hawaii) it really sucked. I avoid United now.
BTW, did they charge you for peanuts? Word is that's the new brainstorm of the airline exec's to save $$...
