  1. This rumor's been flying around for years. Try the $5 red book supplement at Redpoint... it's not a bad update. No topo tho.
  2. NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I grew up near there.... When's the freshie gonna come up this way?
  3. They hiked up near Bridal Veil, then tried to rap down. They weren't climbers. Props to the AMR Reach and Treat guys for dodging the rockfall and getting them out of a bad situation.
  4. Yeah. You're right. It's a Bad Karma thing. How about a thread about all the wonderful rosy things climbers do?
  5. Snoboy. Dude!!!! It's a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually, a cheap Jim Rome ripoff. No political reference intended. I like France. The French people , especially in Cham. ps - I have no opinion about anything, ever.
  6. Iran might have nukes? We surrender, France.
  7. Yeah. Longs Peak. That dude was in the Boulder Field when he got trapped in a snowstorm. Apparently, he was a tourist from Japan who hiked up without any storm gear or water or food or shelter. Silly people.
  8. Do you have to die to win? I can think of hundreds of tourists who get trapped on Colorado mountains every year who should be nominated.
  9. COLUMBIA GORGE, Ore. (AP) - Steep terrain, slippery rocks and dense fog delayed the rescue of a father and son stuck on a high ledge in the Columbia Gorge. But rescue workers were able to finally get Thomas Garcia and his 14-year-old son, Adam, -- along with their two dogs -- off of the ledge. All are fine. Rescuers expected to help them at the first sign of daybreak. But there was heavy duty fog this morning and the rescue could NOT happen until this afternoon. The Garcias were rock climbing yesterday when they realized it would be nightfall before they could make their descent. So Garcia used his cell phone and called 9-1-1. Multnomah County Sheriff's spokesman Michael Shults says the rescue has taken longer than expected because conditions were NOT good. Shults says there was even falling rocks rescuers needed to avoid.
  10. This is BIZARRE! Here's the deal: It was a father and a son in the Gorge. They also had their freaking dogs! I'm told the father learned to "rock climb" (probably rappel) in the military and he was teaching his son. It sounds like they had made harnesses for their dogs out of webbing and were hauling them up like haul bags. Guess they got hung up in a wet, chossy nightmare and got stuck. The father and son are almost down... they're still working on lowering the poor dogs. We're still calling them rock climbers... for now. I'd like to check out their gear. Glad they're OK. Brian Barker KATU-TV Here's some old AP copy: COLUMBIA GORGE, Ore. (AP) - Heavy fog has delayed the rescue of a father and son who are stuck on a ledge in the Columbia Gorge. Thomas Garcia and his 14-year-old son, Adam, are in good condition. But they were rock climbing yesterday and realized it would be nightfall before they could make their descent down. So Garcia used his cell phone and called 9-1-1. Multnomah County authorities were waiting for daylight this morning for the rescue attempt but dense fog set them back. Garcia and his son are near Bridal Veil. They're 250 feet up on a ledge. Food and survival gear were dropped to the two last night. Multnomah County Sheriff's spokesman Michael Shults says the rescue will occur at about 10:30 this morning.
  11. Dude! Just check Travelocity! $580 Portland to Zurich right now. I booked over Christmas week. Not sure about February... And the Franc is trading much better against the Dollar than the Euro is, so it's the best deal going.
  12. Nice! Thanks.
  13. So I found some ghetto-cheap tix to Switzerland this Christmas... so I'm packin' up the K-2s and jumping on a plane. Anyone have advice on THE place to tear it up? I'm staying in Interlochen.
  14. Just bought a sweet new pair of T-2s on the internet ... but now I gotta fit the liners to my feet. Anyone know how to do this at home... or should I go to a ski shop?
  15. Screw it. I'm going to step away from this pissing match. If you want to stereotype us like that, fine. You're part of the very problem you claim to disdain. I'm glad not all climbers are the same. Sorry for getting off topic. Tom Cruise still sucks. Out.
  16. Thanks for the feedback. Those kinds of blanket statements, insults and stereotypes are extremely constructive.
  17. Lawgoddess: That's actually NOT what the local news is comprised of, thank you very much. Maybe ET or Inside Edition... but there's a difference.
  18. Dude!!!! Did you see that sweet free solo he did in Mission Impossible? Was that Moab? If he can do that... CERTAINLY he can climb a cattle trail up Everest. In fact, if he can do that kinda 5.14 free solo... maybe he should climb Everest via the Kangshung Face. Solo. Without O2. During the monsoons. What a poser.
  19. Fri - Drove to Smith - First 6 pack of Fat Tire - My dog drooled over all my crap in the back of the truck. Sat - Christian Brothers at Smith - 2nd 6 pack. Dog tried to eat tent and fetch stick out of raging campfire. Sun - Discovered my new hiding place in the Marsupials. Dog tried to climb 5.2 chimney to find me at top of mudpile. Is that dog abuse?

    Yakima Ghetto

Yeah, Yakima isn't real cosmopolitan. I lived there for six months right after I got out of college... first job. I spent the whole time working on my resume and trying to leave. Lemme tell ya, working in TV news in Yakima is a whole new adventure. Not a lot to talk about. But Miners Burgers ROCKS!!!!
  21. I don't know Smith well... but I was checking out some bolted lines on the Mudpile when I found a sweet looking roof with fixed draws. It's on the far south end of the Mudpile where the rock ends and you can walk around to the other side. Are these in any guidebooks? Ratings?
  22. My wife and I will be there too. Rollin in Saturday morning. We'll be the loud obnoxious couple...
  23. Kids are expensive.
  24. Sure... but it's a good four or five mile slog. Drive until the road is blocked. There's usually a place to park.
  25. Glass, That made me want to stand up and salute!!! Blue states rule.
