  6. uh... isn't that picture on the wall at Neptune Mountaineering?
  7. Yoy read my mind... I was wondering the same thing. I'm willing to bet they're having problems with dust on that road... not snow.
  8. Solid. Well written. And sobering. ...makes me want to brush up on my wilderness first responder skills.
  9. Dude... check out the greenbelt. It runs right through the heart of Austin and has lots of great limestone clip ups. I also second E-Rock. Crazy cool friction stuff and a few decent multi-pitch routes. There's also lots of German beer nearby!!!!
  10. Yeah! That was my wife and I... and Noah the Weather Dog! After you passed us - we lost sight of you. Guess you headed towards I-Rock? Was that a mazamas class? Any good... or just obvious stuff?
  11. Yeah, my yellow lab ALMOST made it up yesterday also... Looked like a helluva crowd on the hogsback around 3pm! What the hell's up with this wx?!!?!?!?!?!
  12. I'm calling bullshit on this one. Too good to be true....
  13. Yeah. It's Kyrgyzstan. I've got a friend there if you need beta. How do you like fermented yak's milk?
  14. Maybe in the Batmobile, usually 7 hours by bus. In any case, I'll second Peru. Yeah... you're right. I think I'd had too much Pisco...
  15. Try Huaraz, Peru. It's paradise. Lots of rock, ice and mountaineering around. There's a huge climbing community there. It's about three hours from Lima, which is quite possibly the most ghetto city in South America. Check out Northern Chile too. San Pedro de Atacama is a nice base. There's some decent mountaineering around. And the culture is amazing. You can also check out Parc Nacional de Lauca near Arica, Chile. There's not much in the way of accomodation in the park, but it's only an hour bus ride from the Panamericana. La Paz is probably better though... if you're willing to put up with the big city. There's a larger selection of mountains and rock around. Good luck!
  16. Yeah. Smith sucked this weekend. Stay away. Especially if no more snow falls. Stay home.
  17. Ha!!! Yeah, I thought about trying to self-arrest with my microphone... but I realized that might be expensive... Ok. Nobody's got any suggestions. Guess it's rock climbing season again. See ya'll at Smith!
  18. This rain's got me down. What a drag. Can we pump some chemicals into the air that'll cause a friggin ice age instead? Anyone got any good weekend suggestions for BC stuff? Anything that's not melted down to grass? Otherwise I'm packing up the pickup and headed to Smith... might as well brush up on my climbing!
  19. Don't know about guidebooks... but Huaraz is the shiznit if you're looking for a basecamp. Check out the Vagamundo Bar... you'll never want to leave.
  20. Can we have an ice age instead? This sucks.
  21. Mount Hood Meadows: COMMENTS: DUE TO THE SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION OVERNIGHT, WE ARE SUSPENDING OPERATIONS ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 18. WE EXPECT TO BE BACK IN OPERATION WEDNESDAY. CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES. Timberline: We've got very high winds and low visibility today so we will be closed. We will be open tomorrow from 9am-4pm. Mt Hood SkiBowl - Closed This sucks. I'm moving back to Colorado.
  22. Wuss. There was no-one on the mountain cuz all the Portlanders were too afraid to drive... You missed out.
  23. OK. This is a STUPID newbie tele question. But I'm wondering if it's normal for your bindings to dent the front part of your boots. I've got T-2s and the part that goes into the binding is slightly dented after one day of skiing. Is this normal? It doesn't look too bad now... but I'm wondering if it'll get worse. Is this going to damage my boots to the point that I can't use them anymore. Should I get new bindings? I'm using BD Pit-Bulls... and I hear they're pretty ghetto... See, told ya it was a stupid question.
