  1. So, a mere three weeks after a knee injury that left me in a leg brace, I have lost 60% of the quad stregth in my left leg...60 percent! I can use a stationary bike but with no weight...this after running a marathon 2 months ago. It's bizarre how fast your body goes. I wish I could gain muscle that fast (or can you?)

Gary, I agree with you about our nation's poor command of the English language--but couldn't you have picked a less inflammatory example? I'm reading a book about globalism by a Georgtown economics professor. It doesn't appear to have been copyedited. She makes reference to "quotas on womens' and girls' overcoats"--and that's just one example. I see mistakes all over the place. It's not just poor people working in coal mines. There are mistakes in The New York Times every day. There are mistakes in the Wall Street Journal (regularly, but not as often as the Times.) Journalists are some of the worst offenders. Next are billboard sign writers.

    Lord Vader

I've played the text cversion of this, but it's more fun with Vader insulting you...although he did eventually tell me I'd be a valuable asset to the Dark Side. He got "engagement ring" in 17 and "spool of thread" in 20...very cool!
  4. Forget Crossfit, you otter try hooping! It's the new kettleball!

I gained 10 lbs this year, and lost nothing when I trained for a marathon. I don't get it.

  14. I totally feel your pain dude. I'm stuck in a leg brace for the next month. It sucks

  17. No, New Yorkers scoop. It's the Parisians who don't. Did you get the bugling badge, FTY?
  18. I bet they expect you to scoop the poop
  19. Gaiters are excess baggage...who needs 'em!
  20. Monteverde is nice but HIGHLY touristy. The other problem with Costa Rica is that you really need a car to get around. In Nicaraga, you can get everywhere on chicken buses and the nicer air-conditioned buses and very cheap cabs. We never felt the need to have a car there, wheras in CR, it was a real pain not having one (but if you do--get the full insurance--the roads are terrible)
  21. My advice is similar...get out of Costa Rica! I would head to Nicaragua. Nicaragua is awesome, less touristy, culturuarlly much more interesting, far cheaper, and actually (contrary to wht many people think) the safest country in Latin America--and a lot safer than CR. Check out Granada and Ometepe (volcano on Lake Nicaragua) and San Juan del Sur on the west coast. The Moon guides is actually really good. You can get there cheaply by bus going through Liberia, or you can fly Taca for about $170 RT this time of year. Just my two cents.
  22. She's a mensa member, as I recall.
