  1. I find it amazing that the "route" developers have not chimed in with thier thoughts. Think you would have to work hard to not know about this site. THen again given what they have done.......
  2. That is perfect, thanks.
  3. Does anybody have an online converstion table of the European standards vs. yosemite des.
  4. Stoutman, I would not take too much stock in what Johndavid says. He seems to like the sound of his own voice. The very broad strokes if his statements are valid, after that he looses credibility. I will expect him to post at least another 10 times with the same tired statements. You don't need to purchase the most expensive stuff. What is most important is what you get for you $$. However this tends to be at upper not lower end of the price scale. In your layering system try not to go bulky to quickly. It is easier to fine tune thin and medium weight layers than thicker layers. Breathability is number one, and hopefully the ability to dry out when wet. The thicker you go the harder it will be to dry out when it gets wet. Have you considered a vapor barrier as part of your clothing system? On the cold days around here I have used a t-shirt with sili nylon sewn to the back. I have been happy with that when I used it. Worn out and have yet to make another one. I keeps my layers dry in the first place so I don't have to worry about sweat. Check out this. http://www.rbhdesigns.com/product/1156/vaprthrmnts-vest.htm I am going to source fabric from these guys and make a costome vest for the NW as I think the full vest they make is a bit much for the NW. However the temps you are talking about it would be perfect.
  5. Not climbing related but funny. From John and Kate plus 8 Kid was being a pill and ran away and fell down and bonked his head. Man that was great sentence Kate "Some times god had built in punishments." FYI, kid was fine, sounded worse that it was.
  6. I don't own a helmet. Have not pulled the trigger on that piece of equipment yet. But have been looking around alot. Next year when I have some $$$ I am going to purchase one of these Poc Helmets They seem like they are the best on the market.

  13. BC users use palmer all the time. heck I have skinned through timberline to top of the mile for good turns back to govie. Met several patrollers over several of these trips and just like fheimerd said, as long as you are not an asswipe Frikadeller could you write up something about your encounter with the meadows patrolers and PM it to fheimerd or me. We will forward it on. There are some people trying to get a handle on what meadows is doing to BC users. they are trying to establish a pattern of behavior.
  14. Bla, Bla, Bla science...Bla, bla, bla I have read it all, hence my willingness to not treat all the water I drink. I may or may not have gotten get sick from those sources I treat, but it sure makes me feel better. Then again I like my poop to be on a regular schedual and not exploding out my butt. Bla, bla, bla tents, bla bla bla.
  15. nice work boys. I am toast from my hike to tie in rock on saturday and meadows on sunday. Next time a weather window opens up for some toolin I will be ready. missed the party friday, cause I was sleeping for my hike. Heard it was a great time and ran in to the wee hours.
  16. tabs when I have access to silt free water, 99% of the time. Depending on where I am I skip the tabs as well. No problems yet.
  17. damn dude you are killing it. 11'0 clock looks good shape for turns now if the snow could cooperate. Slopes on hood never corned up, you getting the corn down there?
  18. nice trip. great weather window catch.
  19. Ivan, you going for the NF?
  20. bad ski conditions? was it still icy in the trees in the afternoon? Should I just leave the skis at home and boot pack it?
  21. it was looking good for s summit, coverage wise.

  23. Trip: Mt Hood - SS Date: 1/10/2009 Trip Report: Thought I would share. Not really Freshies, more like old, icy, wind blown snowiez. Thanks for everybody who showed up. I had a good time hanging out. Too bad we were able to hang out, but you get what you get. Now for the important stuff. Conditions report. Winds were high, snow was being transported to sout east facing slopes. There is blue ice all over the place making skiing interesting. If you can link up the soft snow patches it was good turns. We only made it up to the half way point on Plamer. We made the call there cause visibility was not that great due to blowing snow and ice looked to be more problemmatic as we went higher. It is not all about the down, but that is a large portion of getting up there. I appeared that there was no good way down from hogs back due tow the blue ice on the slopes. Later this week as we get a corn cycle things will improve and creamy turns will be had. Think Wend-friday and possibly next weekend if the weather holds that long. In the mean time stick to the groomers for the best turns.
