I'll second the I Saddle idea; great views.

Is this the one that plays down on the pier? I saw that one back in 2001. Very cool indeed.

Maybe the one in Cle Elum that people speak of is Jack and the Bean Shop? A fellow cc.com'er introduced me to that place on the way to Colchuck. Seemed pretty good to me.

Nice! How'd you take that pic? I need to learn how to do that

Per Comcast.net: "SAN FRANCISCO - A man who approached Nobel Peace laureate and Holocaust scholar Eli Wiesel seeking an interview at a San Francisco hotel last week later roughed him up, police said. Police are investigating the incident in which they say a man, who may have been a Holocaust denier, approached Wiesel in an elevator at a peace forum at the Argent Hotel Feb. 1 and requested an interview. When Wiesel consented to talk in the hotel's lobby, the man insisted it be done in a hotel room and dragged the 78-year-old off the elevator on the sixth floor, police Sgt. Neville Gittens said. The assailant fled after Wiesel began to scream, and Wiesel went to the lobby and called police. Gittens said investigators were aware of a posting at an anti-Semitic Web site in which a man claimed responsibility for the attack, but declined to comment further. The Web site is registered in Australia. Australian police said they had not received a request from U.S. officials seeking help in the investigation. Wiesel couldn't be immediately reached for comment at Boston University, where he teaches, or through his institute in New York. Wiesel, who survived the Nazi death camps at Auschwitz and Buchenwald during World War II, has worked for human rights in many parts of the world and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986." Glad he's ok; "Night" is one of the books that I dare say has changed my life in one way or another. I can't believe this whole Holocaust denial movement.

"SST anomalies decreased across the entire equatorial Pacific during January (compare top and bottom panels in Fig. 1). However, positive anomalies between +0.5ºC and 1ºC remain in most of the equatorial Pacific between 170ºE and the South American coast (Fig. 1, bottom). The latest SST departures in the Niño regions are around 0.5ºC (Fig. 2). The equatorial upper-ocean heat content (average temperature departures in the upper 300 m of the ocean) peaked in late November (Fig. 3) and has been decreasing rapidly since that time, with the latest values being negative for the first time since early April 2006. These trends in surface and subsurface ocean temperatures indicate that the warm episode (El Niño) is weakening. It is still possible for some areas to experience El Niño-related effects during the next month, primarily in the region of the central tropical Pacific. Most of the statistical and coupled models, including the NCEP Climate Forecast System (CFS), indicate that SST anomalies will continue to decrease and that ENSO-neutral conditions are likely to develop during March-May 2007 (Fig. 4). There is considerable uncertainty in the forecasts for periods after May 2007." http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/enso_advisory/ensodisc.pdf Maybe this will help us out with the snowpack...

Oooohhh! Where's that 250 bucks I lost, now.... Here's a bump for a good deal.

Any news? My browser freaks out when I try posting on montanaice. I'm guessing the access might be in serious trouble (as we know it).

Thanks for posting, MH. The patients I work with remind me how good I have it, but this is even a better reminder. Best of luck, and keep at it!

Great! Now, I want to take a trip to Cody. My old Cherokee is shaking fearfully with the thought of another road trip. Good job, nice pics!

Thanks much for the TR; I was wondering how the Yocum traverse would be right now. Congrats on the ascent -

Cool TR, Jason. Nice to have met you all up there! -
Yep, big letdown. Was supposed to do something on Hood; telemetry said at Silcox was gusts up to 60mph. Stayed home. Last time I do that! Next time I'll go have a look for myself. What a nice day up there, today. I'm sure some people did have a nice time up there (especially three guys who did the SHW that I ran into).

Nice thread. Try to climb as locally as I can, but that would be mainly Beacon, Hood and Smith. Not that it's a terrible list...just not as good as some people's here on the board I will state, though, for someone looking to get into alpine (snow/ice), of all levels, Hood has a little of everything. I'm pretty sure that there's stuff on it that some of the experienced local hardmen haven't managed to get off their tick list, yet.

Absolutely. Man, you were getting single swing sticks

And of course, Terminal Gravity Festivale, and Laurelwood Vinter Varmer.

Cool, thanks for putting them up.

Anyone? There's alot of people here in Portland that couldn't. Three basic rules apply. #1. When the road is slick, and applying the throttle makes the wheels spin.....applying more throttle isn't going to help. The wheels just spin faster. #2. Leave more than 5 feet between you and the car in front of you (as a matter of fact, leave multiple car lengths open in front of you). This leaves adequate time to stop. For people waiting to get into traffic, this doesn't mean that you can try to squeeze into this space. #3. When braking, and the car starts to slide, turning the wheel to one side and locking the brakes doesn't help. Not going 5mph over the speed limit helps, but if you must, then pumping the brakes generally reduces braking time. Class dismissed.

Portland drivers aren't the best I've seen in general...but most natives that I talk to blame it on the Californian transplants

Bump for a great deal. I notified a few of my pals; maybe someone will pick them up from you.

Hey, get the party started. I might be able to come out; if not, then maybe some other time...but lets keep the thread going.

Very cool pics, good for you for trying. Inspiring, Blake!
