Hammer Gel vs. Gu, etc. - Electrolyte Replacements
John Frieh replied to Kraken's topic in The Gear Critic
perpeteum + hammer gel (or GU) pre route + on route. recoverite post route/rest periods. however the diet you choose/follow during your training period leading up the event in question will potentially have a much larger impact on how well you perform. I.e. water intake during the day, carbs within an hour of working out, protein within 15 minutes of working out, etc etc etc -

John Frieh replied to John Frieh's topic in Climbing Partners
Yo Bill! I have a system board in my garage now if you want to come over and get some punishment prior to your Yos trip. I live even closer to you now (Blandena and Mississippi)... come over and use it anytime! -
Alpiners Anonymous: PDX dry tool night

Rocky Wednesday. Whatever is dry 5 pmish? -
I've walked and/or biked the road a few times before it was officially opened but it was always when they weren't working (weekends or alpine start) so hard to say. Emailing Jeff like Dan suggested would be best

2 rockclimbers dead at Horsethief Butte
John Frieh replied to billcoe's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
I was there bouldering. Noticed the group of three when I first got there: two newbie climbers getting climbing instruction from a third person. These 3 were not affiliated with the Mazamas. I had my back to them so I didnt see the fall but it appeared one slipped and knocked the other one off. Both fell to the ground (bad landing). They were unroped as (my suspicion) I get the impression they were walking around/off from the top of a climb. If you've been to Horsethief you know that you can walk off just about everything there. Mazamas initiated a 911 call + first aid. Rescue personnel were on scene immediately. Very impressive response time for a rural climbing area. -
I did a quick lap on just the palmer this morning before heading to horsethief (bad day out there). Bumped into a few headed up... it was very warm out. Did anyone get a good look or better a pic of I rock?

Damn... I am a fiscal genius. Now if only I'd made out with some underage boys I could be Mayor!

Mmmm... bacon

They should tax Sunday brunch. GOLDMINE!
-
Unless it's a fixe and then tax them more for using it
-
Depends on the coffee shop. You'd lose money @ a few of them

And a tax on 70's haircuts.

We should start charging 5 dollar a car for crossing I-5 bridge... that would bring in some $$$!

We're number 1!

[TR] Hyalite Canyon - Ice Vacation 3/23/2009
John Frieh replied to kevino's topic in Ice Climbing Forum
Good one Bryan! Nice work you pervs! Great to see you finally made it east! Start thinking about next year! -
Looking for something to put the skis in for airline travel. Given current baggage rules ($$$) would perfer something on the lighter side so with skis and poles I am still well under 50 pounds (so I can put other shit in there). Wheel are optional IMO unless you think I really want them. My hope is a bag that will hold/protect: 1-2 pair of skis 1-2 pair of poles tent poles ice tools etc etc Carl? TIA

:laf: If the bike evolution in PDX continues then the next thing we should see is... no gears! a.k.a the scooter!

And check out the Toyota Matrix: 30+ mpg and AWD
-
I've never had a hard time finding diesel as backwater hicks drive diesel trucks That and when you get ~550 miles per tank as long as you plan/think ahead you shouldnt have any issues. I personally think AWD is required but I trek to CAN, MT, WY a few times each winter. Kinda depends on your winter intent. Diesel pricing is a funtion of some current federal and state regulations... I dont know about WA but you get a large tax write off in Oregon for buying Biodiesel. But yeah: who knows... write your congress person. Semi related and some food for thought: I believe some local govenors are looking into ditching a portion of the gas tax and replacing it with a tax per mile... this might alter your ROI analysis And suby is suppose to have a diesel offering soon (or is it already out?) And... look for a diesel hybrid sometime soon from VW... 100+ mpg!

Nice linkup

My g/f has a 200x (3? 4? cant recall exact year) Jetta Wagon TDI. AWESOME gas mileage but not AWD and not a lot of clearance (though you can get AWD on the new ones).
