  1. The XMonster and regular Monster will be available to demo at the PDX Ice Festival
  2. CoR Sept 23rd - 25th (weather pending). Come celebrate the solstice and pinch some granite with your fellow ccers. Get a hold of me if interested
  3. Only if you remember to choke up on your tools pulling through the roof this year Seriously though if I end up helping Roj route set then it wouldn't be fair if I compete so who knows... Everyone attending make sure to send an email to pdxicefestival@gmail.com to be registered in one of the raffles for some sweet prizes! And even though I might live to regret this if people need a place to crash Friday - Sunday let me know... mi casa es tu casa. STOKE!
  4. This sound be in the freshiez forum.... The last winter we had el nino a bunch of ski resorts didn't open but... Colin climbed like 5 FAs or FWAs including the complete NR of Stuie... Jim Nelson found the NW face of stuie fatter then he had ever seen... Roger Strong put up Pineapple Express... There still was ice in the Rockies, Hyalite, etc etc Suck it up and learn to mixed climb d00d. See you at the PDX Ice Festival!
  5. Nomic? Quark Ergo? Quark? The Petzl Nomic in addition to the Quark, Quark Ergo, Aztar and Aztarex will be available to demo at the PDX Ice Festival
  6. The Black Diamond Reactor in addition to the entire Black Diamond ice tool line (Fusion, Viper, Cobra) will be available to demo at the PDX Ice Festival
  7. But still what? We're raising money for the access fund. Who wouldn't want to support that? This whole thing is grassroots... everything I have gotten for this event has been begged, donated or is coming out of my own pocket (like kegs). The PRG has graciously accommodated us even though we have no money to rent the place... local shops are stepping up with donations... bottom line is we don't have any corporate sponsoring either... but MD and I didn't want to have it any other way... grassroots! I agree that it totally sucks that this is the same weekend as rope up but with the exception of me last year no one from OR showed up at Rope Up... what are guys worried about?
  8. Being that the event will have free beer and PRG is within stumbling distance of the doug fir and Mary's Club (google it if you aren't at work) I think the choice is obvious...
  9. Post deleted by John Frieh
  10. I did my best to avoid cc.com date conflicts but at the end of the day working with PRG and all the reps to try and find a date that worked for everyone required some serious juggling and this was the only date we could come to agreement on. Is moving rope up not an option at this point?
  11. Get out more... you never know what you'll see
  12. Portland Rock Gym. - Black Diamond, Petzl, Grivel, La Sportiva, Vasque, Arcteryx, Patagonia and maybe DMM on hand with demo gear (if you are a vendor interested in attending send an email to pdxicefestival@gmail.com - Informal comp with newbie, womens, and experienced divisions. - You don't have to compete if you don't want to. - Slideshow - Thousands of dollars worth of gear will be raffled (multiple raffles) with all proceeds going to THE ACCESS FUND. If you send an email to pdxicefestival@gmail.com with your name stating you will be attending you will automatically be entered in a special raffle open only to people who preregister for some sweet prizes (no entering this raffle at the event). - Informal instruction from Roger Strong and other top ice/mixed climbers for those who have little or no ice/mixed experience. ...and if you still needed a reason: FREE BEER FREE BEER FREE BEER
  13. Very true. We do likely miss out on a lot of quality because of the overall atmosphere on the board. But on the flip side if it wasn't for the board atmosphere who knows if cc every would have survived past the early days... hard to say... However if you are truly passionate about climbing you will find those people who choose to not post here... one of the best examples I can think of is Craig... he has only been climbing 2 years or so but he loves it so much that he ended up connecting with Pete Doorish (who will never post here) and as a result likely knows more about what Pete has and hasn't done in WA as well beta for various routes then all of us here combined. Answer your calling... make sure your calling is true.
  14. - The cost/cover charge of posting here is you will receive some amount of spray. Some more than others. - If this is too "expensive" for you then other BB exist that might be more to your liking. - I think the amount of spray has more or less stayed the same over the past 3 years I have wasted here... it just might seem like it has increased to you because you are now in the cross hairs. - I like most TRs... with the exception of the occasional deserving candidates I think TRs shouldn't be sprayed on (light banter is okay). I think the enforcement of "spray free zones" has relaxed over the years in both TRs and other forums. - I as well as most users here read just about everything as you never know when a freshiez TR is going to have a photo of some unclimbed ice in the background. The other (primary for me) reason for reading TRs is I just plain enjoy hearing about a newbie absolutely stoked about their first alpine climb... or something like that. Yeah lots of us could and do solo the tooth *but* hearing someone truly stoked about their first adventure is awesome... at least for me. I think you need to ask yourself: Why do you post TRs? Because you truly had an awesome time and want to share it with others? If that isn't the reason then I bet you will never be happy with the response you get to your TRs.
  15. October 14th.
  16. I totally agree Dru... and that's why I'm not giving a slide show... or at least not the traditional one. My idea is to have an unattended digital slide projector on a timer that just shows a pic of an ice climb in the gorge (or surrounding area) for like 5 seconds and then clicks to the next one... each photo will have the name of the route and the distance from PDX on it so if someone does see something cool they can take a mental note. The projector will run on a loop during the festival while people do more fun and exciting things like demo new ice gear from Black Diamond, Petzl, Grivel, and DMM... try on Vasque and La Sportiva boots... drink free beer... and if they want enter the comp (or just watch it). And oh yeah... score free schwag and help out the access fund. How does that sound?
  17. Did I mention this benefits the access fund? Columbia Gorge Ice Climbs preferred but if you have any water ice (i.e. not crevasse/glacier/serac stuff) in OR/Southern WA (including the WI that comes in on the ridge left of the Elliot) let me know.

  19. Do you have pictures of Columbia Gorge Ice Climbs and wouldn't mind if they appeared in a slide show that will benefit the Access Fund? PM me or send an email to pdxicefestival@gmail.com (preferred).
