  1. Ok, so i have a black Mtn Hardwear jacket, and REI down "generator" jacket bought on sale at the PDX REI last year. Now they are both a tad small, but they didn't have mediums when I bought these last june. I worn them each a handfull of times, but not very much, and I see that the B-ham REI has the same items in medium, the PDX one stopped carrying them. How can I take back/exchange a small jacket for the identical model in medium, if they now cost roughly $30 more each since they aren't on sale? P.S. I'm a member, but would be willing to "forget" that if it'd help my cause.
  2. If the weather looks good, bring no tent, just sleep out. (not such a good idea in winter.) stick sunscreen/bug dope into film cannister or other smaller portion things. Don't carry a bulky and heavy water filter. USe iodine, use a bottle that filters are you drink, boil it, or just risk it. For dishes I can usually get away with an insulated mug and a spoon, plus some kind of bowl to heat food in. Never bring food that takes multiple steps or multiple cooked ingredients. Cut down on gear weight by bringing fewer pieces of pro (every other stopper, and a few small cams). save on slings by just clove-hitching to a tree or anchor at the belay points. Every time you go try and use as little as possible, and if you don't use something on a couple trips, ditch it.
  3. Climb: Index-Great Northern Slab, GM Date of Climb: 10/14/2004 Trip Report: Myself and AlpinistAndrew hit up Index today. we didn't try anything too hard, but had a great day on good rock and with good weather. We did a couple of routes on the great northern slab, up to a crazy 4-anchor rap point. Then we went over to the far right side of the wall and did SS ultrabrutal and the first part of GM. I really want to get back and do the entire route on GM, as well as godzila and a few others. What is the story on the door into the mountain with the creek coming out of it? Gear Notes: Nothin fancy. Stoppers, mid sized hexes and cams. Approach Notes: uphill both ways
  4. Interested in the hotwires... Quantity? price?
  5. Kinda a longshot, but if one timing light is as good as another, Physics teachers/science departments often have them for experiementation and whatnot. Being close to WWU, I just thought I'd mention it.
  6. How was Climbing last weekend Eric? I made it down to Mt. Erie this afternoon and led zigzag, but I never got out last sat/sun.
  7. Nail polish is quick, easy, cheap, and less messy than spray paint.
  8. I should have left the #, as I've been late in checking this thread after the first couple days. (360)788 - 8993
  9. Hey, I don't know if you want to drive up to bellingham, as I'm carless, but if you do, then let's climb! I'll PM you with info. If not alpine now, then maybe next week? -Blake
  10. IS this peak 7948 NW of buck Mtn?
  11. Anyone wanting to go climb alpine or just cragging this weekend? I'm in Bellignham and carless, but I'm looking for someone who wants to get out and get some stuff done. I'm available from sat morning to sundaya night. I have a full rack, and some funny stories. PM or email. -Blake
  12. Not really what you are looking for, but I am in bellingham too, and I'm lookign for people who actually are motivated to get out and climb some stuff. Seems like this place is full of boulder-loving hippies, not mountain climbers. Anyways, I've got a full rack, PM or email if you need a partner.
  13. I haven't doubled up on rap rings. I'm not saying i'd necessarily feel good rapping off an old ring and piece of webbing from who-knows-how-long ago, but when I'm somewhere remote requiring a rap, some webbing and a single ring is what I try and use if there are no trees. The types of gear that is lifted with standard industrial chain day after day would go far beyond the force of a rappel. Check out a marine or industrial supply store fir links if you can't find them at a general hardware store. You might just have to cut out every other link, and save the intact ones.
  14. A chain link would do it. Don't know the breakign strength, but i'd trust it to hold me on rap, or on a fall.
  15. Boiling lake and Bernice lake both feed Prince creek, from the sawtooths area, NE of lake chelan. This would be along the summit trail between Star peak and Mt. Bigelow. A lot of open area in the 7-8.5thousand foot range, but not a huge amount of technical mountaineering possibilites. I'm wondering if lightning or rockfall could be the cause of death. I'm really interested in this guy's story, as this is kind of a summer "stomping grounds" for me.

  17. Hey, I really REALLY want to get out on sunday. I was going to go to the rope-up and WA pass on sat/sun but my partner's car didn't work out.. so i have no ride. If you want to go anywhere (like WA pass/liberty bell area) or to Mt erie, I'd LOVE to go. I have trad and sport gear, rope, and money for food, just no car. If you are heading over to 11worth tonight for climbing tomorrow, that is great too. -Blake I'm in Bellingham

  19. good to hear you are coming on sunday. I as thinking Beckey route on Liberty bell and/or the north fac of concord tower. We might need someone else who wants to lead trad though, because i'm not too big on a team of three. Any ideas? we can maybe find someone at ropeup. I think They'd need a rack as well, but we might be able to get away with my stuff.
  20. What is Mt. Fernow named after?
  21. What are some recomended climbs around leavenworth? I've never climbed there, but will be bring stuff to do trad or sport, multipitch is fine. I'm looking for the easier range of trad climbs (<5.8), and up to 5.9ish sport climbs. I be with one or two others, and likely wont get to 11worth until early afternoon. Any want to clue me in on some of the specifics such as directions to Bridge Creek Campground and any other associated events or stuff i should bring? -Blake
  22. I thought most people stole something actually worth taking.
  23. Thanks for the tips. I'd be interested to see Maude and 7FJ from that side, since i see them all te time from the north, but i already did Fernow this summer and want a route that involves trad leading. I'm thinking Concord tower and Liberty Bell via the beckey route.
  24. I'm sure that'd be a great day trip, but i doubt we could pull off 20 miles of hiking AND the climb, and still back over to puget sound by early evening sunday.
