untilVertical World presents DIRTBAG: THE LEGEND OF FRED BECKEY with the American Alpine ClubHailed as one of the most influential climbers of all time, Fred Beckey is the original American “Dirtbag"–one who abandons societal norms and material comforts in pursuit of a nomadic mountaineering lifestyle. This rebel athlete’s lifetime of accomplishments set the bar for the entire sport. He shattered records with an unparalleled string of superhuman first ascents, bushwhacking trails and pioneering direct routes thought previously impassable.Beckey burned bridges, eschewed fame and stayed unencumbered so his only obligation would remain conquering the next summit. He kept meticulous personal journals where he mused on everything from arcane geology to his romantic life, to the myriad sunrises he witnessed from vantages not seen by anyone else on Earth. An environmentalist before there was such a term, Beckey’s legacy includes 13 essential books that act as blueprints for new generations. He defiantly continued climbing until passing away in October 2017 at age 94.Tickets are limited and are $10 online and $12 at the door.Beer from Georgetown Brewing will be provided.

That is a good one @Bronco ! I had already tagged it though....see the "Best of CC.com" tag and "FA" tag here? Thats what it looks like. Thank you! -
Cheers to y’all especially @Terminal_Gravity for all the beer you have donated for the Cascaseclimbers community to enjoy over the years. I remember the first Ropeup I put on (well partially remember )! That was a great party up at Chattercreek! Anyone remember that? Tipping back a TG IPA in the memory of a good time that was had by most!

Well it looks like you only had one beer left, so it was clearly an emergency. -

High Avie Danger this weekend in the Cascades
olyclimber replied to olyclimber's topic in the *freshiezone*
yep the whole map went from red to yellow last night! -
I've always loved Marmot Pass, Royal Basin, Lake of the Angels to start with! On the eastern or north eastern side, so quicker to get to from your neck of the woods. Marmot Pass = Top of the Big Quilcene drainage Royal Basin = Dungeness drainage....very beautiful area Lake of the Angels = up the Putvin trail, and alway love a scramble up Mt Stone! But yeah, I would stay away this weekend. These are right there though for you now that you live in the PNW. And there are a lot more. Heck, just a drive up to Hurricane Ridge is something you gotta put on your list! If you love the ocean and want to stay out of the hills due to avie danger then I would recommend a hike to Toleak Point and camp there. http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/toleak-point Just hike in from Third Beach and back, not the through hike like the WTA page mentions. I think you'd have to deal with crossing a really high creek or river if you did that... I bet your other half would love that! One of my favorite spots on the planet.

Putvin Trail to Lake of the Angels, Mildred lakes, Tubal Cain Mine. Those are all on trails which will probably have bit of snow one them, and you could go off them at any point. Looking to get above the tree line or does that matter?

[TR] Index G-M Route- G-M and other stuff (Thin Fi
olyclimber replied to olyclimber's topic in North Cascades
Index! And my favorite beta all time from Chuck: Locate two small edges about 2 feet and 4 feet off ledge. The key hold is a small diagonal edge around the corner to the right about 3 feet off the ledge. You can use this edge to undercling and hold your feet on the small edges. Start with left foot on bottom edge, use undercling out right and tiny thin crack for left hand. Pull up and set right toe on upper edge. Get balanced and stand up straight on edge, at which time you should be able to snag nice hold in upper corner. -
Are there any questions about the new forum software? Other than the TR database, which we are working on, are there any "I used to this on the old software, and now I can't figure out how to do it with the new forum software" type questions? What do you think?

We're going all the way this year! Dee Gordon is the missing piece we've been looking for. Also my son is selling tickets to raise money for his high school baseball team, and also if they sell enough tickets they get to play at Safeco Field in 2019. The game is during the summer (July 31, 2018) vs the Houston Astros. Tickets are $20 each which is discounted from what the Mariners usually sell them for. PM me if you want to buy any tickets.

I would prefer a "How to position the pad so the lead boulderer doesn't break his cankles". I don't know...knowlege is good, right? Here is one thread that is mentioned... I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV. And I would say that there are many conditions in play here, and yeah it is pretty stupid to teach a dynamic belay to a bunch of gym climbers. But then again there is actually even stupider shit being taught pretty much all the time. So I don't know what to say.

Honestly half the time down there I was annoyed, and half the time I enjoyed someone running around and pumping the gas for me. It felt like a hold over from another era, an era that I'd probably rather live in. But I don't want America to be like that again.... I think I just want to time travel and live in my childhood when I didn't have grown up concerns.
