Wanted: ClubYuppie I mean ClubSport partners
Gaper_Jeffy replied to Gaper_Jeffy's topic in Oregon Cascades
They virtually do. Every other week they have these Friday night MILF parties, as well as a weekly coffee/book club whose reading list seems designed to attract MILFs. PS: If a MILF wants to be my partner she's more then welcome. And, no, I am not using MILF in a derogatory manner--I consider it a term of endearment. -
My indoor belay slave ugh I mean girlfriend climbs with me far less then any decent prenuptial contract would require, so I'm looking for others to climb with at ClubSport. ClubSport is that massive rockgym in Tualatin, the one with the café/bar upstairs, zillions of MILF workout studios and the plethora of BMW SUVs in the parking lot. Looking to establish a regular weekly schedule. Any climbing level is fine. I'm really mellow and I don't spray, seriously.

And if the forecast is right you'll be there along with a major, windy storm. Great photos! But next time please consider posting them vertically. ;-)

Great shizzle Timmy, many thanks for the update!! I think I'll be saving your Sister for next weekend so I can do some Pow-Pow hunting close to home this weekend: A COLD STORM WILL DROP OVER OREGON BEGINNING LATE FRIDAY NIGHT. STRONG WEST FLOW WILL PUSH SIGNIFICANT MOISTURE AGAINST THE CASCADES. THE SNOW LEVEL WILL DROP TO 5500 FEET ON SATURDAY AND 4500 FEET SATURDAY NIGHT. ACCUMULATING SNOW IS LIKELY SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT ABOVE 5000 FEET WITH SOME WET SNOW POSSIBLY ACCUMULATION AN INCH OR SO IN GRASSY AREAS AT PASS LEVELS. STRONG WINDS WILL DEVELOP ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS BY SATURDAY MORNING AND CONTINUE INTO SATURDAY NIGHT. THE COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS AND ACCUMULATING SNOW AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS WILL CREATE AREAS OF LOW VISIBILITIES ALONG WITH COLD TEMPERATURES FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.

Shred picked the location correctly. From Today's Hood Climibing Report: May 18th - The cravasses on White River Glacier are extending much further west than typical. Today one climber was ascending along a common route on the east shoulder of Triangle Moraine, broke through an snow covered cravasse and fell 35+ fee into the cravasse. This was at approximately the 9700' elevation. This is a common line for climbers to take so the prudent thing to do now, is to ascend around the west shoulder of Triangle Moraine.

From oregonlive.com: Tuesday, May 18, 2004 Climber found safe Update from Clackamas County Sherriff's Department Clackamas County Sherriff's Department reports that the 60 year old climber who fell into a crevasse on Mt.Hood has contacted rescuers: Police & Fire: Clackamas Co. Sheriff's Office: ****UPDATE***** The climber has made voice contact with his partner and says he is not hurt. He fell approx 30 ft down. AMR's Reach and Treat team is making their way to the crevasse and should be there soon. They will assist the climber out by roping down to him.

Didn't mean to offend, I'm just super bitter about this weather. Have fun!
-
Whose forecast are you reading? The most recent forecast models are showing probability of A POTENT LITTLE UPPER DISTURBANCE (sic from the NWS Discussion) bringing inclement weather on Saturday and Sunday. And no, I'm not looking for a partner.
-
It's not in Oregon. BTW, why is it illegal?
-
How significant is the impact of wind on the corning of snow? Eg, if it's super windy but the temp is in the 50s does the wind adversly impact corn development?
-
Hoody Meadows was yesterday's destination. They did indeed get 8"s however there was some remarkable funk going on in the snow, did it fall that heavy or was it just super wind affected? Either way yesterday was not a softshell day, not becaue it was wet but because the wind was absurd. Which brings me to my next point, I'm not sure what I was more disappointed by: the snow, wearing a softshell or forgetting my wind meter. I left at 11:30 to go skate skiing. PS: Jack's Woods opened right before I left, for those who skied it was it as heavy as elsewhere?
-
Yeah but I'm from California and I drive a big SUV. Doesn't that mean I should get special treatment?
-
Yo Shred, would you mind telling us the location of your favorite top-secret powder stashes on Mt. Hood? I'm a Californicator (lived in Lake Tahoe previously) who is spending their first complete winter in Oreghan--have sympathy for me!

If so will this help? 218 PM PST FRI MAR 26 2004 ...A SNOW ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR TONIGHT FOR THE CASCADES IN LANE COUNTY...THE NORTHERN OREGON CASCADES AND THE SOUTH WASHINGTON CASCADES... A SNOW ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE NORTH AND CENTRAL OREGON CASCADES AND SOUTH WASHINGTON CASCADES FOR TONIGHT. SNOW IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE OVER THE CASCADES THIS EVENING...WITH SNOW POSSIBLY HEAVY AT TIMES OVERNIGHT. NEW SNOW ACCUMULATION BY 5 AM SAT MORNING IS EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM 4 TO 7 INCHES ABOVE 3500 FEET. DRIVERS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR ICY OR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND WINTER LIKE DRIVING CONDITIONS.

How do you you typically access Newton Creek? I ask as Van Tilburg's Backcountry Gape Oregon book recommends skinning up the Heather runout, ascending Pea Gravel, then descending into Newton Creek. It seems to me skinning up the Netwon Creek runout from the nordic area would make more sense.

Would that be greater in windspeed, greater in the amount of flat light or greater in the length of lift lines at Meadows? My nose still tingles from the wind and--despite the tylenol--my head still hurts from this morning's skiing-induced vertigo. I guess Jack's Woods wasn't so bad when they finally opened it . . . On Sunday Heather Canyon was better then expected w/ a few inches of soft heavy snow ontop a mostly soft base. Other aspects weren't so good. The Hood Express bowls were classic dust-on-crust w/ an inch or less heavy new ontop a hard crust. Was wet--borderline snow/sleet all day.

Iain, who took the 2nd photo you posted of Middle Sis?

maybe if you tell him UW has chicks hotter then Sandy Pitman he'll do it for free

Hoody Meadows was plab as well but cooold and a bit crowded. The gapermobile's themometer reported 9 degrees upon arrival. TLG, SkiBowl is off hwy 26 just a bit west of Goverment Camp.

I'm cross posting this as this is one of the most hardcore tours I've ever done. Starbucks in Beaverton, Oregon (a Portland suburb) was today's destination. The heinous terrain, frigid temperatures and gawking drivers made this tour a challenge. Braving the shallow snowpack I departed basecamp at 10am: Concerned about avalanche danger a detour to the playground was mandatory: A stash of freshies were spotted in the tennis courts. The angle looked extreme but I went anyway: While the tennis court freshies begged me to stay, I must push on to Starbucks. Dodging large avy debris (which looked like cars) I increase my pace: After extraordinary perseverance, I finally made it: 4-5?"s of snow is outside my apartment and it's still coming down. February 1995 was the last time this much snow was received in the metro area. This is surely a great start to the New Year. Jeff

You may want to consider returning the bindings for a rando setup. Having your first skiing experieince on tele gear can be tough. Though whatever you do take a lesson first (an alpine lesson would be fine even if you're on tele gear).

Is the Beta Ride construction considered foam core? -
A few weeks ago my girly and I were going to go to the A Frame (we eventually cancelled due to weather). So I called up the Hood River ranger district to ask how I could make reservations. They transferred me about 3 times then gave me the number of same guy who didn't work with the forest service. So I called up this guy and he put us done on a list then proceeded to give me directions like I was a clueless gaper. From the tone of the gentleman's voice it sounded like I didn't need reservations unless I was bringing a large group. Is this correct? Gaper Jeffey
