  1. mocking frogs, do this, don't do that, read the sign... is this some sort of code for the geographically inept? No wonder I'm confused. I love that tune man!
  2. why does this frog mock me?
  3. why do Beacon TR's keep showing up in Oregon Cascades?
  4. Climbing too dangerous. Try golf.
  5. I think there be a big difference between mountain hikes and 14,000ers. But, I'm pretty happy with my La Sportiva Nepal Evos and they can do both in a wide variety.
  6. That thought had crossed my mind
  7. The chances of adverse danger are much greater in mountaineering than most other things we could be doing and we know that going in. That would seem to be a good place to draw a line. I love climbing! But I do it for myself. It leaves me with a great amount of self pride and I get a feeling of accomplishment. It gets me into the most beautiful country anyone can imagine. I don’t go into it telling myself I need a fix on those things, but do you see a pattern here? Me, me, me. It really doesn't do anything for my wife who doesn't climb. self-ish: concerned only or primarily with oneself without regard for others. Seems to fit me anyways. Maybe I’m the only one... I would like to clarify that when I said I agree, I agree with Fairweather's post and not the author of that piece.
  8. I like Biwell better than Sno-seal for non GTX. The Evo's are GTX so I'd definitly go with the Nikwax.
  9. The only negative I can think of is that your feet might decide otherwise by the time you're down. At least you can bail to the ferry and take a nice cruise out... Otherwise it sounds like a cool trip to me!
  10. She's correct. uh, which part? that 11 mountaineers died on some peak she'd never heard of, or that women don't climb mountains? That climbing a big mountain like K2 (or any dangerous peak) serves no purpose and that "heroism" has better definitions already available. I think it was Mallory's son who recounted later in his life that as a boy he didn't understand or care that his father would be a climbing hero and legend--only that his dad never came home. I agree. Climbing is without a doubt selfish. To take on extreme adverse dangers, especially when you have family is even more so. Hell, the local climbs I do are selfish, though nowhere near as extreme. I have always acknowledged that. It is sad that these people perished up there. I find it disgusting that some of you seem to enjoy - arm chair analyzing their mistakes and joking about it. MOVE THIS TO SPRAY!
  11. I may know where this is. I found aircraft parts during a traverse a few years ago, but it wasn't down there. It was up near the Humes. Just got off the phone. I found a different jet - linky. sticky icky is still up for grabs.
  12. From Gunsight drop to saddle just above small lake at 6364' (bivy here or better camp below @ lake if needed). Traverse easterly along ridge system then leave it at the 6660' saddle dropping slightly as you go east until you pass below peaks at 6800' (east of small creeks); begin dropping directly to Spruce Creek into the dog hair to about 3170'; contour around to southeast for better Agnes Creek crossings... more or less.
  13. Learn to climb gym, trad, sport, and bouldering all at Uncle Billy's World of Extreme Outdoors!
  14. butter, marshmellows, water, sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, butterscotch chips, honey, peanut butter, chocolate chips, rolled oats, nuts, powdered milk, cheerios, soy protein powder, M&Ms... mix wet then dry then combine - bake into bars. mmmm
  15. they don't they still rock.
  16. and it still doesn't have a lighted display you'd think that would bother me, but I seem to always have a headlamp on or handy when I need to see it. I heard the new ones have light.
  17. percent of slope?
  18. At least that is self reliant. I would agree with a rescue team putting in bolts if they are repeatedly on mission in a given area. I disagree with climbers putting in bolts just in case they need them. Bolts are not the answer Take your climbing seriously, your life depends on it.
  19. I've had my Avocet for like 10 years and it still rocks.
  20. Stuck rope: untie, hunker down, blow whistle, wait for rescue... sounds about right to me. Why couldn't dude climb the rope? Self rescue man! Otherwise, I'd bet my left... the local rescue team has a standard - practiced routine for rescues on this particular piece.
