  1. I have to agree with Pope on the issue of bolting next to cracks. There are plenty of climbs in the world, without bolting cracks. Hell, I sport climb, have bolted routes and boulder, but there is no reason for bolting cracks. I think that is a reasonable and just place to start. Pope said: All I can do is climb in good style, be a good example to younger climbers . Though we may disagree on what that means (as independent thinkers often do ), I whole heartedly agree with this sentiment.
  2. Isn't that the same as the Sportclimbing Forum?
  3. Of course he is. Les Schwab lives there. (whoops! there goes another rubber tree...)

  5. Burning Hummers will make you feel better, Beck - you should try it
  6. Boy Howdy! The depth and cunning of that retort is only exceeded by it's evisceration
  7. I remember a few years back when I was living in Bend, some climbers moved the rocks underneath one of the caves (the bouldering one) to make the landing better, and it raised quite a fuss. The rocks were put back to maintain authenticity of the cave environment.
  8. Find your piratical name Iron Jack Rackham
  9. Q: Of which concept shared by Jungian psychology and Northrop Frye's literary theory are pirates especially fond? A: ARRRchetype.
  10. An additional note: I am not talking about the cam being "tipped out" here, just in the halfway to 3/4 range. I have seen it a lot: people tend to think if the cam is not stuffed into the crack like a wedge it is not secure. I believe the opposite is true: if a SLCD is overcammed, it has more tendancy to "pop" out because the lobes are not loaded within acceptable range

    Fall Events

And you thought summer ending was a bad thing...
  12. I have a partner I have climbed with for years who invariably overcams his placements. He also sets them deep, making following a bitch. I tend to place shallow and undercam, making it easier for the follower, but he complains my placements are insecure. My question: Does overcamming and burying make you feel more secure? Or am I being too loose and shallow with my cam placements (granite/ NW)
  13. That's beautiful, man - now take your meds
  14. Bob, you should have put this in the new ROCK AND BADASS BOB CLIMBING FORUM
  15. I thought the "bitch about bolts" forum was awesome - and I bolt, boulder, sport-climb and trad. BRING IT BACK!!!
