  1. someone stole trask's training routine! "Come on guys, it's all a matter of conditioning. Hit the ol' scrote with the rasp periodically during the off season. By spring you'll have some good calluses built up."

Yes, but there's also a flip side. Unfortunately, if everyone was moderate, there would be a lot less change. It's the extremists who bring certain issues to light. I don't think that they should have extremists running governments or other entities, rather, have a moderate run it with the extremists from both sides acting as advisors. That way, the issues get brought to light, but don't get out of hand. That being said, not every issue needs an extreme viewpoint. Some issues are fine with *only* moderatation.
  3. I can't believe they had the nerve to practice roped travel on safer terrain! And carrying weight for training? They should all go to hell! (in other words, you're an idiot Alpinfox)
  4. try working 40 hours a week for the rest of your life...
  5. $80+ for a 64 MB card?! What kind of media does it take? that price seems really high! check out prices at: http://www.pricewatch.com/ edit: oops, reread it and you got the battery too. It still seems kinda high...
  6. I agree. If the guy doesn't want to pack his shit out of high-use areas, I think he should stick his hand in a nice pile of it on a climb sometime. But if the club packs it out of everywhere, regardless of how little use or whether it's below treeline, then more power to him.

Perhaps church and state aren't specifically separated there, but if they aren't making laws forcing their beliefs on their people or making decisions based on religion, then I don't see them as being together. I was referring to when fundamentalists run countries and force their views and beliefs of their people. The ones that stand out in my mind right now are mostly islamic, however, that's probably just beacuse of the press they're receiving right now. I'm reminded of Christians being persecuted back before it became mainstream, then it was protestants being persecuted by Catholics, the spanish inquisition attacking heresy, etc. It just seems to me that mixing fundamentalists with government is a bad idea, was there a time when it worked? Again, these are impressions, not necessarily facts. If I'm talking out of my ass, please let me know (and provide facts.) (One of the reasons I'm putting this out is so I can learn more...)

Fundamentalism from any religion scares me. I've always found that fundanmentalists are always willing to force their religion on you, but will not let you explain anything that you believe in (that they don't agree with) without telling you that you're wrong. Unfortunately, it's the fundamentalists from any religion that are generally the most visible, so people get the wrong impression of some (if not all) religions. I think that religions, when done properly, are a good thing, with the key point being that you have to maintain an open mind. It helps people be happier, and the basic beliefs of most religions tend to be positive things. I think part of the problem with mixing religion and government is that it tends to be the fundamentalists who get the control. (I have no data to back this part up, this is just the impression that I have.)
  9. now that I think about it, "for all intents and purposes" does make more sense....
  10. I have no idea. Hasn't it been obvious that I'm a numbers guy and not a words guy?
  11. I hope the ugly things are the orange curtains and not women!
  12. which kind? English (1.5 ft), Roman (1.4566929 ft), Egyptian (1.476378 ft), or Royal Egyptian (1.7175197 ft)? (all aforementioned feet are the International/US standard feet)
  13. It's the principle. MA would be selling out in every aspect of the term. More advertising makes it all the more difficult to ignore. As if pop-up ads on the internet we're bad enough...
  14. taken from http://www.onlineconversion.com/volume.htm one US Hogshead = 62.999999 US Gallons. For all intensive purposes, 1 hogshead = 63 gallons. taken from http://www.onlineconversion.com/length_all.htm one rod = 16.5 US/International feet. therefore: 40 (rod/Hogshead) * (16.5 ft/rod) * (1 mile/5280 ft) * (1 Hogshead/63 Gallons) = .00198 miles/gallon Any questions?
  15. I knew there was a reason I left MA...

  18. I thought that's what most (if not all) art was about? Sex, or some derivative thereof...
  19. I think that we're in a race with most other countries to see who can screw up the planet the fastest.
  20. The two things that piss me off most about work is they expect me to actually come in every weekday, and they expect me to actually do work sometimes! The bastards!
  21. I have no idea what happened on Leuthold. I was just doin' the south side (again... I was up there way too many times last week). Conditions on the south side weren't bad at all. Hell, we even got a nice "cool breeze" the whole way up! I saw you at the top of palmer, but by the time I got over toward you, you had started moving, and I figured that you wouldn't want to stop again. I just dragged a sled up Tam MacArthur Rim a few weeks ago as part of a expedition training class, so I understand completely about how much fun they are. Turns out the "sled-tree well" attraction is one of the strongest forces known to man. Too bad you didn't ride it down, that would have been entertaining (both to participate in and watch!)

I thought we had to take the phrase with "God" out of the pledge of allegience, but it's OK for the president to say "God bless our troops"...
  23. I'm with Iain, the english system blows goats of the dead variety. We wouldn't have to worry about any of this if we were on the metric system like the rest of the world.
  24. I think you can only have two decimal places there, buddy. How many significant figures do you have in your least accurate number? 2.54 is exact. You can drag out the decimal places as much as you want with these conversions. However, don't forget that any measurement you take (or any other human has taken) won't be exact, so that must be taken into consideration.
