  1. those are just two of the MANY popular routes on that list. I was just using those as examples. A single group of mounties on lots of those routes ain't gonna make a bit of difference. If you don't climb DC (or any of those other routes) because you're afraid mounties are going to be there, I don't need to bash you, you've already done so yourself.
  2. I haven't seen a guy take a blow like that since Hugh Grant!
  3. I'm sure a mountie group will ruin your otherwise solitary presense on these routes...
  4. some of my friends use clubphoto.com Prints are $0.25
  5. When I teach newbies off the parking lot of Timberline, I wear clothes like that. I find that I will be standing around often, and I'll use my goretex. My feet get cold easily, so I wear plastic boots too. These people may very well have been thinking for themselves. If you're going to be standing around learning about snow anchors, what kind of clothes should you wear? Just because they have their goretex on doesn't mean they're mindless drones. If you don't have a problem with people learning skills in safe environments, why are you bashing these people? If you haven't used ropes before, it can be really confusing. I like to think that they would have learned about it in a warm, dry environment before doing it outside, but there is valuable learning experience to be had by doing ropework (even if it's on easy terrain) outside, preferably in bad weather. I would get into Guiding vs. Mounties, but that should be another thread entirely... (I don't have a problem with guiding)
  6. I'm not seeing Alpinfox and Sloth_Man with a much different attitude
  7. So Alpinfox, again, I'm sure you got off the couch and did Liberty Ridge safely. You never had to learn anything.
  8. What bastards! I think we should slam them for not being climbing gods like us!
  9. This is the original post I have a problem with. 1. You saw them coming off the ski area, not on the tooth. 2. You ridicule them for wearing gore-tex and plastic boots: If you're going to be learning basic snow techniques, you won't be moving all day long, so you need to wear more clothes. 3. A 70 lb pack? Did you weight it? Are you sure you didn't exaggerate at all? 4. You made the assumption they are the mounties, what proof do you have? In your defense: you did ask for confirmation, but not before bashing. Now this is my question for you Alpinfox: how many newbies have you taken up and shown how to climb?
  10. Or large open areas outside of climbing routes (such as the gulleys near the lower parking lot at timberline.) Can someone please explain to me how this is getting in the way of everyone else climbing, or why learning should be ridiculed?
  11. My problem here is that Alpinfox was making fun of them for practicing. I'm not trying to say that they should be out in large groups and taking over climbs, but don't bash them for practicing in large areas where they don't bother other people. You're a prick and an idiot if you do.
  12. I'm sorry for my previous posts. Alpinfox and Sloth_Man are obviously much better than anyone who has ever joined the mounties. They are superior in every way, and they have never carried more than 5 lbs into the backcountry. They never used ropes until they were 1000 feet up El Cap. They have never done any conditioning hike, rather, they just go up to the mountain and climb Rainier in under 4 hours. Please accept my apologies oh great gods of climbing!

  14. It's not that I don't like what I do, I just don't like my current job. Unfortunately, with this economy, finding another one either takes a lot of luck, or a lot of time and effort. I'm too busy getting outside whenever I'm not working to look for another job right now...
  15. so what do you do that you love so much minx and trask?
  16. someone stole trask's training routine! "Come on guys, it's all a matter of conditioning. Hit the ol' scrote with the rasp periodically during the off season. By spring you'll have some good calluses built up."

    Religon

Yes, but there's also a flip side. Unfortunately, if everyone was moderate, there would be a lot less change. It's the extremists who bring certain issues to light. I don't think that they should have extremists running governments or other entities, rather, have a moderate run it with the extremists from both sides acting as advisors. That way, the issues get brought to light, but don't get out of hand. That being said, not every issue needs an extreme viewpoint. Some issues are fine with *only* moderatation.
  18. I can't believe they had the nerve to practice roped travel on safer terrain! And carrying weight for training? They should all go to hell! (in other words, you're an idiot Alpinfox)
  19. try working 40 hours a week for the rest of your life...
  20. $80+ for a 64 MB card?! What kind of media does it take? that price seems really high! check out prices at: http://www.pricewatch.com/ edit: oops, reread it and you got the battery too. It still seems kinda high...
  21. I agree. If the guy doesn't want to pack his shit out of high-use areas, I think he should stick his hand in a nice pile of it on a climb sometime. But if the club packs it out of everywhere, regardless of how little use or whether it's below treeline, then more power to him.

    Religon

Perhaps church and state aren't specifically separated there, but if they aren't making laws forcing their beliefs on their people or making decisions based on religion, then I don't see them as being together. I was referring to when fundamentalists run countries and force their views and beliefs of their people. The ones that stand out in my mind right now are mostly islamic, however, that's probably just beacuse of the press they're receiving right now. I'm reminded of Christians being persecuted back before it became mainstream, then it was protestants being persecuted by Catholics, the spanish inquisition attacking heresy, etc. It just seems to me that mixing fundamentalists with government is a bad idea, was there a time when it worked? Again, these are impressions, not necessarily facts. If I'm talking out of my ass, please let me know (and provide facts.) (One of the reasons I'm putting this out is so I can learn more...)

    Religon

Fundamentalism from any religion scares me. I've always found that fundanmentalists are always willing to force their religion on you, but will not let you explain anything that you believe in (that they don't agree with) without telling you that you're wrong. Unfortunately, it's the fundamentalists from any religion that are generally the most visible, so people get the wrong impression of some (if not all) religions. I think that religions, when done properly, are a good thing, with the key point being that you have to maintain an open mind. It helps people be happier, and the basic beliefs of most religions tend to be positive things. I think part of the problem with mixing religion and government is that it tends to be the fundamentalists who get the control. (I have no data to back this part up, this is just the impression that I have.)
