there's a path through the avy debris this year. So long as you stay at the same elevation (there's a herd path that goes up the middle of the debris, DO NOT take it), it takes literally 5 minutes (I timed it) to get across the first (largest) debris. Hardly worth losing any sleep over. Thanx to the people who did enough work on it to get it to this point, but I think it's fine the way that it is at this point.

<after 10 minutes> There *is* a waterfall back there! woah! I gotta get back to Eagle Creek if that's what the local fauna looks like!

so I assume you're going in through Depot Creek. Hehehehe, have fun. Seriously, the approach isn't that bad, you cover most of the elevation by the falls on a talus slope. If you want any beta for the NE Face of Redoubt, let me know! (We had planned to do Spickard as well, but that didn't happen.)

Although my Kearney book is currently MIA, I believe the severed rope was on the actual N face of Buckner, and the nasty traverse is on Boston to get onto the Boston Glacier. (I believe he severed his own rope, the rope was going down to a client.)

not that I have a whole lot of places to compare it against, but I'd have to agree with JoshK about the Leroy Basin thing. I did Fernow from Leroy Basin last year and I still think it's one of the most beautiful places I've been. wow, I must not have really flown yet! The worst that happened to me was having the plane abort a landing (we hadn't even touched down when he gunned the engines and started climbing again) to allow another plane with problems to land first. Meanwhile my parents are in the terminal watching all these emergency vehicles driving out to what should have been my plane...

Yeah, I just started using the EDK. It's definately a little nerve-wracking, but if you let your partner(s) go first, you can watch it. Leave your tails long and you're golden. I've backed it up with a second EDK (cinched right up next to the main EDK) before. That's worked fine, although there is more bulk in the knot and it could get caught easier.

I just went up Depot Creek this past weekend, and the cars were left alone for the entire 5 days we were up there. I'm glad this thread hadn't been started before I left though, I prolly would have been a lot more freaked out about not only camping on the road, but also leaving the cars alone for 5 days! BTW- whoever said that the Northeast Face of Redoubt only takes 6-11 hours was smoking crack (or climbing unroped)...

Sometimes people need to be listened to as well. I think that sometimes just your presense, even if you don't say anything, will help others.
