  1. Astounded to see the lack of snow. Used to seeing all the avy paths by Source Lake, was out Sunday and there is very little snow in that bowl. Need to make plans for early route openings this year
  2. post the url if you find it, I looked about 15 minutes and didn't find anything, looks like the library is the next stop
  3. Could get two high quality cruise missles for that price.
  4. Thanks for the data, always like to do the zipper each year, good conditioning and practice.
  5. Did Gov's Ridge two summers ago. From the lakes went to the saddle between Gov's Ridge and Barrier. Is pretty steep on that back gulley, watch the heather, can be slippery. Need to go past 3 buttresses I think. The traverse back to Barrier is pretty steep in places, have to crawl through brush. Not too many names in the Gov's Ridge register, doesn't look like too many make it out there. Barrier looks to get a lot of traffic. If enough time, can do Tamanos same day.
  6. Can you post instructions on how to make one?
  7. Climbed Roosevelt, went in over frozen Snow Lake. Beautiful views of Glacier Peak, Rainier, all the Snoqualmie peaks. The last 300 feet up Roosevelt was quite steep and exposed, wish we'd brought a couple of ropes and pickets, but slow going and careful downclimbing got us out. What a great day Sunday was, thought it was supposed to rain, but beautiful all day.
  8. We just did Roosevelt this Saturday 1/19, that area beyond Snow Lake is very nice, the lake is frozen, can walk right across it. Gain one of the ridges on the other side by Gem lake, the views are great, can see and hear folks climbing Chair Peak.
  9. Woolite works on synthetic bags also? My main concern is bringing the loft back to the bag.
  10. What a mess, 43 other people on the same route?

Pro Mountain Sports has a few light and simple designs if you just want one tool
  12. What makes them better?

    Ice tools??

Borrow from a friend. Join one of the climbing clubs, they usually have a few to share.
  14. Drives me crazy listening to the chit chat while my ice cream thaws out.
  15. Doesn't matter who you vote for, the politicians will just
  16. Will keep an eye on the conditions, on Sunday, several of us are snowshoeing past Snow Lake and attempt a scramble of Roosevelt, will likely see the Chair Peak Climbers
  17. Silver Peak area is one idea. You get above treeline. Can go in via Hyak, or Lake Annette. PCT goes through there. If going up by Hyak, can ski in, even take the chairlift up to the top of Hyak.
  18. Where's a good place in the Seatle area to get sleeping bags cleaned? Both types of bags, fiberfill and down.
  19. Great sleeping bags, the lightest around, maybe a bit pricey, but you can ask if they have any discontinued colors, got 10% off on the zero degree Snowbunting, great bag, 47 oz
  20. Seattle Mountaineers headquarters, January 9th, 7pm
  21. If you are looking for light specialty gear, you should check out this place, but the selection is limited. I think of this shop as the place to lighten your pack.
  22. Regarding a cam eploding, I know a buddy who took a screamer in Yosemite, the stem of a .75 camelot came right off , the head of the cam still wedged in the crack, broke right off. This was an overhead crack so the weight was straight down. He went about 50 feet, luckily nothing in his way. But not aware of the gears all coming apart.
  23. McClellan's Butte on I-90 is a also a good 1 day effort, steep couloir, could be icy if conditions are such, avalanche hazard also. Icy rock at the top up the middle, or bail out to the left and up to the top with a running belay. Non technical 1 day outings easy to get to are Arthur Peak, Gove Peak, and Florence Peak out of Ipsut, at least keep you in shape.
