  1. When tying into a rope for glacier travel, you put your Texas prusiks on the rope, the foot prusik and chest prusik. Do those have be tied in opposite directions?
  2. Seems that many folks are taught that their prusiks need to be placed on the rope in reversed position (for glacier travel). If you have been taught this practice, or do it from habit, what is the reason? Trying to settle a heated discussion.
  3. Sitting, especially if you can brace your legs against something. Standing provides more chance of being pulled sideways and off balance.
  4. Unless of course the person guarding that single axe falls down
  5. You guys are taking so many tests, I can't get to the server, just errors out
  6. I look at it this way.. Lots of snow, will be able to traverse through those tough bushwaking routes on easy snow in June, no snow, the rock routes open up early...so about anything is cool
  7. Then I started looking above tree line, saw all those climbers taking a leak...filter away!
  8. February is always nice around here, hmm...kind of like last weekend
  9. Sounds like a good urban legend
  10. The closest Mountaineers class to the Portland area would be Olympia, they offer MOFA a couple times a year, and you don't even have to be a member
  11. Ah, how about those great belays and anchors in Vertical Limit
  12. I used to drink from anything back when I was a tree planter, but then I noticed all the little critters having their way in the hillsides, makes you wonder what you really are drinking.
  13. Maybe global warming peaked in '81?
  14. I carry a filter for multi day trips or many in the party, always carry iodine tablets for one day trips or emergency. Never drink untreated water.
  15. Goode Logan Bonanza All 3 are in the cascade classics list
  16. Above Hyak. You can even get a ski lift ticket to the top. Lots of groomed trails or fresh snow
  17. Would be a better option then cluttering up the climbing reports with chatter
  18. What? This attitude leads to accidents.
  19. If you place one piece, say a cam, it would be placed for the most likely direction of pull between the belayer and the leader. If you create a directional with two pieces, the bottom piece is generally placed for an upward pull, to keep the top piece from being pulled upwards.
  20. That picture sure looks steeper then the first, but it is the same route
  21. Like that I can get to most any Cascade destination in about 2 hours or less. On any summit, can see at least 2 or 3 volcanoes. Least - low enough to attract a lot of rain
  22. When does skisports study? He climbed Chair on Friday also.
  23. That's what happened on Hood. Guess you just have to go on these routes on weekdays to get away from the crowds. Even being the first ones up doesn't help on the downclimb with all these folks above you.
  24. Nice picture of the route, looks pretty straightforward, I'll print this for my attempt someday.
  25. I have front loading washer and dryer (Neptune). Guess I should give it a shot on a bag to see what happens, then post the answer.
