Nice job Mike, great to see you get recognized. I was wondering if I know any other "tough" guys, and why not include Ted.... 1) Ted bicycles to the northwest territories with two months supplies in garbage bags, including a $20 raft, strapped to his bike. He reaches the Mackenzie river, inflates his raft, stows the garbage bags, and floats the river. The raft deflates mid stream several days later, he swims to shore abandoning the craft. 2) Ted successfully climbs Mt Rainier, only to take a graceful roped swan dive into the bergshrund on the emmons. Only a minor inconvenience! 3) Ted attempts an 86 mile one-day run through the Olympic mountains with two friends. Almost succeeds until his friend has a 'Giardia Attack" at mile 72. 4) While bicycling along a county road admiring a herd of elk, a cop car drives by too fast and strikes an elk. The elk totals the cop car and is thrown, sailing through the air, only to land on Ted as he is bicycling. Waking up in the hospital, he has yet another tough man story to tell! all true stories

[TR] Mt St Helens- Worm Flows 2/28/2004

A sno-park lot is a sno-park lot. If you have a sno-park permit you can use it, so the ticket would not be for no permit. The forest service must have another designation for that lot specific to that area. Call them and tell them to get bent. -

Anyone ski ferguson ridge, in the Wallowas? I went there again yesterday with friends for a day of easy tele skiing. 6" of new snow over groomed made for a great day. What caught my attention though, was the majority of skiers there were all telemark skiers, and most were really good. Unusual for a lift area. The usual number of snowboard splats were there too.

Outsourcing: Evidence of the failure of US educati

One of the main problems is that CEOs etc of large companies make disproportionatly large salaries for the work they do. -
I have always used leather boots, asolo snowpines, or merrell super doubles. I bought my first plastics a couple years ago, T2s, and find that they are overkill in most situations. For bc touring, I have not used them, but I do at lift areas, or if I am just skinning up a hill for a day of turns. I should look at the T3s or 4s. However, the T2s sure have a lot of control and I have been happy with them.

This topic does not seem appropriate to cc.com. Please move it to telemarktips.com. I have basic chili bindings, cables only, on my 10th mtn, and use either T2s or merril super doubles. The system works well, is good in the cold weather. I don't alwas like cables, so I like crackeds idea about using the voiles with pins and cables though.

Yeah, a friend of mine was ranting and raving on the phone last night. He called McAfee to renew his virus scan, and talked with someone in Manilla. Gave them his credit card number etc. What gives? -

US education? Most Europeans have a better education that us. Here are four simple math questions most Europeans can answer, and most Americans can not: What is the log of 1000? What is the reciprical of 2? What is the inverse of 3? What is 4 factorial? -
Good point. About all I climb any more is mountaineering routes, like on rainier etc. On these routes, glacier routes, I always use a locking biner. But it is not a good idea for rock routes, where I would tie right into my harness.
-
I prefer tying in with a figure 8 and backup knot, into a locking biner. However, a bowline would be a little easier to untie if it had been heavily loaded like from a fall.

You pussies can vote for the Kerry instead of Bush. Its like deciding to shop at K Mart instead of Wal Mart! Throw your vote to the lesser of two evils. Or you can vote your conscience for someone who can really change things for the better. Nader in 2004.

Not being fortunate to live in the Big City , I am glad large mail order stores are still around. I use REI often, as they have been there for years and I can usually get most of what I need. They have a great return policy if not satisfied, and the rebate is still a nice perk. If they don't have it, I can mail order or drive to Mountain Gear in Spokane. By the way, , I have not been banned, just in Tucson for three weeks.

Better than running or biking, anyday!!!
