  1. ohhh no, there will be a repeat next week! High pressure is our friend.
  2. i've seen the problem sporadically on my computers too with firefox. usually exiting the browser/logging out clears it up.
  3. if anyone happens to have the next 2 days off, and wants to get get some corn, so. oregon/no cali, drop me a line!
  4. that is the rides/points concept we use here at bachy. it requires data collection points all around the mountain (either network connections and or smart devices or PDA scanners and labor), which in Whistler's case would be pretty expensive... but yes it is a fantastic program which is especially good at hills with weather issues.
  5. <rant> more than likely the fine folks at timberline AND KGW are aware of the camera outage. believe me, they know that people depend on the cameras, and try to keep them up and updating as much as possible. but there is nothing that bugs timmy more than webcam fussing. KGW's camera breaks constantly at bachelor, and the fix involves a tech coming down from portland to fix. sooooooo, make the quick drive, head on up, and live dangerously without the webcam images </rant> webcams are aid.
  6. yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaauuuuh!
  7. damp panties? when it came time to climb out of bed at odarkthirty, neither of us were stoked to crawl up the west face with boards on our back. so we slept in (had driven from bend at 4am sat morning), and skied out. I don't think the west face is any secret, there were ~20 people camped there fri/sat night. But definately the difference from the south route to the west is amazing, almost a wilderness experience... much like dropping the chutes off pikers peak on adams... so close, you so many gapers os far away. maybe next time we can do some syncro-corn-eights.... oh i think the bivvy high on casaval was from a couple waiting for teh winds to calm down.
  8. what makes a peak vs. a butte anyhow? on some old maps, brokentop shows up as st. mary's butte
  9. I don't own the board, I own minds, I harvest them everyday.... mmmm fresh minds, lets see what I can troll today. I'd go back into your old browser, clear out all temp internet files, and cookies.... perhaps go so far as to open up http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/logout.php in both browsers, stay away from 'chat' for 2 days, and call daddy on the 3rd.
  10. its bachelor butte technically, but ownership got state to change it to "mount" cuz it sounds more alpine. BUT, we do have an italian bistro called 'scapolos' on the mountain (italian for bachelor) and some italian dude from the mother land threatened with a lawsuit saying he had the word 'scapolos' patented:)
  11. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttt?
  12. i forgot what trade mag it was in, or if i saw it online, but there was an interesting article regarding the lack of diversity in the "internet crop"... high %'s of ms browsers and OS, and how one well written exploit can damage the ecosystem, errr electronic eco-system. pretty interesting.
  13. i'm just sick of spyware/adware and shnat like that running rampant on computers at work here... the fact that you have to buy other software to manage patching POS stuff like IE on windows boxes is fahkin lame. the 'soft is digging their own grave imho.
  14. www.mozilla.org with yet another major security flaw found in Internet Explorer its time to move to a better browser folks. checkout firefox from mozilla and free yourself of billg.
  15. my food choices at work right now: vending machine, or stale corn
  16. SICK, sounds like silverton!
  17. i thought the subject was a Jeopardy answer, and i was going to ask the question: What is cc.com?
  18. i hear bikerfox is a good training partner too!
  19. Is there snow on lots of the high alpine routes? What is the snow like? Is it mushy? Has anyone been on any good routes in the past week that can give me some beta?
  20. the approach was pretty quick, 2.5 hours i think? But forgot the watch. Turns on the way back to the car only. there are some sweet tight little lines off shastina into cascade gulch, those look hella fun, as well as the obvious bigger lines off the top of the west face. as we chatted about, i think the best option would be to bivvy at the TH, go up the dog route early, and ski down the west face. You can traverse over to the bottom portion of casaval above hidden valley, drop back onto the SW side and have an easy traverse back to bunny flats. Lots of elevation, but light n fast, and gaper-ific! when i go back to hidden vallye, it would be best to have at least 2 nights/3 days to spend over there to really explore shizzy. ranger that was camped at lake helen was the one who reported the gusts 60-70+
  21. Climb: Shasta-Hidden Valley Date of Climb: 6/6/2004 Trip Report: gaperfest04 I knew that we were in for an -epic- when i began hiking out of bunny flatz. I was immediately intimidated by the alpine prowess of my fellow climbers on the south side of Shasta... they were obviously more prepared than I for the ojbective hazards of the approach hike... not taking any risks what-so-ever on the firm morning snow: crampons, axes, camo pants, jean shorts, and helmets protected them from the dangers that lurketh around each bend of the trail. But it wasn't just the gear that set them appart, it was the Tom Petty sing-a-long, their battle cry! "NOW I'M FREE, FREE FALLING", the cadence kept them out of harms way as well. A bit shook up, i slogged on, feeling a bit insuficient with my minimal gear, and naked without a full goretex suit on. Quickly i skinned on into the trees towards Hidden Valley, quickly, as to get away from the sneering glares of the well equiped alpinists. Alas, I should have heeded the warning signs as our attempt to ski the west face of this fine choss pile was thwarted by the infamous winds of mt. shasta. 70+ mph gusts on saturday night blew a slew of sand into our tent, and shook our already fragile psyche. Sick lines stared at us from the west face as we skiied out sunday morning, taunting gapertimmy, snickering at my lack of gear, giving me corn blue balls. I will be back, and next time I'll have my COREtex. jlag escaping the south side West Face from Hidden Valley even without the climb and ski this was a great trip. looks like the face will be in for a few more weeks, suncups low on the south side already. go get some
  22. Hey Alex- Maybe a bit more info on the skills of those climbing would be helpful for providing beta. There are routes up both peaks that don't require any glacier travel, but are you looking to travel on glaciers... do the party members know how to hike/climb up steeper snow slopes? The easiest route up South Sister is the southern climb from Devil's Lake TH. From Pole Creek, most folks would climb either the Prouty Glaicer route (steeeep snow and glacier travel, not advisable for beginers) or the Northern Ridge (I haven't done this climb so can't comment but it is more technical than the south side). The SE Ridge of Middle Sister is pretty mellow, as is the North ridge via the Hayden glacier. Don't underestimate either of the peaks, and the snowpack up high has recieved recent snowfall this week, so you should be comfortable diagnosing avalanche/terrain dangers. Timmy
