  2. south face of n sister was already pretty burnt out, but last i was up there it looked damn good! i still think SE ridge on middle is one of the best descents in the sisters!
  3. j00 are wrong, chinook is like a tomahawk missle, i command him to drop coils, and he'll travel north, consuming turds along the way, and drop a steemer on yer foot bish!
  4. drul i can drop coils on you from anywhere
  5. i've had my stubais for many years, solid piece of gear for any type of 'ponning needs (cept ice climbing, but i don't do that). used em on glacier slogs, steep snow, and steep dirt! used them for the first time yesterday on my denali lasers and they were solid.
  6. i'm going to ski SICK BIG LINES, and drink, and drop brown coils on you all from great heights
  7. from forbes.com K2 Inc. to Buy Volkl, Marker and Marmot 06.16.2004, 07:17 AM Consumer products company K2 Inc. reported Wednesday that it signed three definitive agreements to purchase Volkl Sports Holding AG and Marker Group for about $124 million in stock, cash and assumed debt, as well as Marmot Mountain Ltd. for about $84 million in stock, cash and debt. K2 plans to close the acquisitions by mid-July, and expects the companies to add to earnings this year. The company will finance the purchases through a combination of debt and equity. "The Volkl and Marker acquisitions are very significant in that they continue our strategy of building a truly global winter products platform for K2," said Richard Heckmann, K2's chairman and chief executive officer. Volkl, established in Germany in 1889, makes premium skis with an average retail price point above $500. K2 intends to maintain Volkl's automated manufacturing facility in Straubing, Germany. Marker, founded in 1952, is a ski bindings manufacturer, with an estimated market share of more than 40 percent in the United States. Marker has partnerships with Volkl and K2 to sell integrated ski and binding systems. In the past season, the company said a significant percentage of K2 skis were sold as integrated systems with Marker bindings. On a combined basis, Volkl and Marker generated total sales of $171.9 million in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2004. Marmot, founded in 1971, makes technical outdoor apparel and equipment, including performance jackets, expedition garments, fleeces, skiwear outerwear and accessories, gloves, and tents, packs and sleeping bags. Retail price points for Marmot's products range from $80 to $400, and sales for 2004 are expected to be $74 million. Marmot currently produces skiwear under a license with Marker Group.
  8. sweet! from what i've seen so far, north/east facing aspects are a bit more setup... but nonetheless, this current weather will buff things up pretty nice. thanks for the pics iain! that avvy debri is just insane huh
  9. I think it is the work of Michael Moore's secret cult, TCLA, the cheeseburgerchubber liberation alliance. All the bombs are going to blow up on opening night of Farenheit 9/11
  10. Climb: Middle Sister-North Ridge Date of Climb: 6/16/2004 Trip Report: What would you do if you had a million dollars? "Two chicks at once" The checklist was complete - high pressure - beyatchin corn - okay from special lady friend - car shuttle It was time to get on two of the sisters in one day, two chicks at once, what more could a dude ask for? Pole Creek TH at 3:30am was a magical place. As I stepped out of the truck i was greeted to a dark sky littered with stars and the sounds of the coyotes howling in the pre-dawn darkness... the wild dogs felt the stoke, they were telling me the day was going to be good. It amazes me how trails transform under night... a trail that i have traveled many times before was suddenly a new place, with different sites, and sounds... i was in a trance until daybreak at timberline: The alpenglow was amazing, and the pink mountains pushed the needle to the top of the stoke-o-meter... i was making good time, and really thought I was actually gonna get to ski a shizzy load of corn! The magic continues when i arrived at the hayden moraine, and discovered cc.com's own 'boonecounty' slumbering away in his bivvy. After some quick chat i continued on towards the north ridge of middle sister. The snow on the hayden was beautiful... perfectly laid in, optimally setup from a few days of freeze/thaw... stoke continues to get higher as i drop in the iPod tunes, and rock up to the saddle. I arrived at the base of the north ridge just prior to 7am, just about the same time the winds started to kick up. Still riding high on the stoke, i took a break and waited for the winds to let up a bit... but after about 15 minutes i got impatient and started up the north ridge. There was a nice boot pack going up so i strapped the skis on the pack and moved up higher thinking "well maybe it isn't as windy higher up the ridge". After getting blown over a couple of times i decided to put on the 'pons and get 'serious' about this endeavor ... moving higher up the ridge, the gusts continued, and the sustained winds had me crawling on hands/knees/pon points up the north ridge.... around this time, just shy of 10k, i was full on humping the ridge, watching chunks of rime whizz by my head, i realized that this was kind of sucking.. the stoke was wearing off, and i didn't want to become a gaper kite anymore. waiting for the winds to calm down so i ducked behind a rock outcrop and waited some more. time was passed by throwing chunks of rhime ice above the ridge, and watching the winds cary it 100+ yards through the air before dumping it down onto the renfrew glacier. I love times like this in the mountains where i really just don't give a shit about anything else in the world... i know i'm not going to be uber core and do my big trip, but i'm having fun throwing chunks of ice into the wind. after fahking around on the ridge for 2 hours, i decided to just call it a day and go ski the hayden, cuz it did look really tasty. the turns were fantastic from top to bottom... even the dirty snow down low made for some fun corn turns. brokentops north side looking sick got back to the car around 12:30, not a single regret in my head, only a smile on my face. The 'sisters' are primo right now, wax your boards and go get it. Snow level on the west side approach was solid snow above 6300', plenty of love above! Gear Notes: kite Approach Notes: lots of gapers on trail during hike out, favorite comment was a lady who asked "Did you ski up there?"
  11. took this from prouty point today, i'm guessing the road to jack lake is open, but from that pict you can see that there is still a good deal of snow up there... on the east side of sisters, snow was constant from 6300' and higher.

  16. ohhh no, there will be a repeat next week! High pressure is our friend.
  17. i've seen the problem sporadically on my computers too with firefox. usually exiting the browser/logging out clears it up.
  18. if anyone happens to have the next 2 days off, and wants to get get some corn, so. oregon/no cali, drop me a line!
  19. that is the rides/points concept we use here at bachy. it requires data collection points all around the mountain (either network connections and or smart devices or PDA scanners and labor), which in Whistler's case would be pretty expensive... but yes it is a fantastic program which is especially good at hills with weather issues.
  20. <rant> more than likely the fine folks at timberline AND KGW are aware of the camera outage. believe me, they know that people depend on the cameras, and try to keep them up and updating as much as possible. but there is nothing that bugs timmy more than webcam fussing. KGW's camera breaks constantly at bachelor, and the fix involves a tech coming down from portland to fix. sooooooo, make the quick drive, head on up, and live dangerously without the webcam images </rant> webcams are aid.
  21. yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaauuuuh!
  22. damp panties? when it came time to climb out of bed at odarkthirty, neither of us were stoked to crawl up the west face with boards on our back. so we slept in (had driven from bend at 4am sat morning), and skied out. I don't think the west face is any secret, there were ~20 people camped there fri/sat night. But definately the difference from the south route to the west is amazing, almost a wilderness experience... much like dropping the chutes off pikers peak on adams... so close, you so many gapers os far away. maybe next time we can do some syncro-corn-eights.... oh i think the bivvy high on casaval was from a couple waiting for teh winds to calm down.
  23. what makes a peak vs. a butte anyhow? on some old maps, brokentop shows up as st. mary's butte
  24. I don't own the board, I own minds, I harvest them everyday.... mmmm fresh minds, lets see what I can troll today. I'd go back into your old browser, clear out all temp internet files, and cookies.... perhaps go so far as to open up http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/logout.php in both browsers, stay away from 'chat' for 2 days, and call daddy on the 3rd.
  25. its bachelor butte technically, but ownership got state to change it to "mount" cuz it sounds more alpine. BUT, we do have an italian bistro called 'scapolos' on the mountain (italian for bachelor) and some italian dude from the mother land threatened with a lawsuit saying he had the word 'scapolos' patented:)
