  4. Climb: Bachelor-West Ridge Date of Climb: 6/8/2005 Trip Report: This is dedicated to RuMR, June Freshiez jib upon you from great heights. cross posted from TGR cuz the freshizone needs some FRESH STOKE. Around 9ish, sickbird Schralper calls up saying there is plenty o fluff to be had in the bowl, and he'd be by the office with his sled shortly. Stoked! view from the back door Schralper is the fkn d00d of the hour, tows me up above Pine with his fancy arse 900 (thanks again man), there was nary a 1000' of skinning left to get dem goods. The views were amazing, the 4-5" of snow had magically transformed the Sisters wilderness back into its more attractive winter-esque state: During the skin, the tasty goodness that was laid out perfectly in the bowl urged me higher up the ridge. When i was chillin on top, taking in the views, the sickbird himself comes slednekkin up to the top, damn d00d! The turns were stellar up high. I think schralper got some pics of me and my super fine a$$ form. All in all, a fkn great morning, and a great June so far. Keep it coming!!!!!

  12. we had about an inch of fresh snow at 6000' at bachelor today. i'm guessing higher elevations probably got at least 3-4"
  13. fwiw, i also heard that the optimal conditions for speed climbing rainier are rapidly approaching.
  14. great TR, looks like an amazing trip.
  15. ski the cooolie!!!! that would be so sick. has it been skied?
  16. trip report here
  17. 20" brown, so hot right now. No we headed straight home to warm showers after the hike out. I did hike up bachy this am, but it was super crusty nasty turns... feels like we might get some snow!
  18. My thoughts exactly, that was a pretty amazing storm. I had been in one similar at green lakes a few years back, its pretty awe inspiring to be in the mountains for a spectacle like that. Camp lake is a beauty spot indeed... you'll definately have to get back down and ski the ridge some day... fortunately the MASSIVE BULGE is on South Sister so Middle ain't gonna blow up anytime soon!
  19. Climb: Sisters Wilderness-Oregon Ski-In Date of Climb: 5/28/2005 Trip Report: You don't know if you don't go. Words to live by, and in this case, words to get wet by. Indeed, it was a stormy weekend in the lovely 3 Sisters Wilderness (fahk the forecasters)... but alas, the few hardy cc.com folks who despite a dwindling forecast were front row for some of natures grandeur.... and some of us even got some tasty turns in too. FRIDAY PM jlag and i were putting back some coors tall boys en-route to the green lakes th. Upon arrival, we were both astonished to see only 1 other vehicle in the lot... perhaps this was a sign of the forthcoming storm, but we were stoked to get under way. Just as the sun was setting we arrived at our camp site (thanks MattP thats a great spot), and were treated to one of the most amazing sunsets I've seen in the mountains: Mt. Bachelor in evening glow jlag taking it all in worth the hike in alone Knowing the forecast was calling for clearing skies around midnight, we crawled into bed with visions of sick corn turns in our heads. SATURDAY 3AM Since it had been quite warm, we somehow motivated to get out of the tent at 3am to go get sum on South Sister (via blown away ridge ). It was early, but the sunrise was super kewl: What a difference 4 days makes, lots of snow gone from brokentop eerie morning glow over central oregon The skin up the blown away ridge route was rather quick... seems like i had just been there. Anyhow, upon rounding the corner at the Lewis Glacier moraine we saw the swarms of uber gapers coming up the standard south route... AND we were greeted with a SUPER FANTASTIC 35-40mph sustained wind! THUPER!!!!! We decided to keep on keepin it on up the South ridge... the travel was slow as we ducked behind each large rock to get out of the wind... finally about 150' vertical below the false summit, just about as some hail started to fall we sez fahk it, lets ski: getting ready to ride away from the storm yin/yang bowl from above, again it provided the best turns of the day The turns were pretty good, considering the conditions. The best turns of the day were had on the fantastic yin/yang slope that i had skied earlier in the week. This great little hill offers about 850' of 35-30ish degree turns... mmm mmm good. SATURDAY NOONISH After our tasty turns, we were watering up at Fall Creek. Yours truly was decked out in some serious thug passion, G-G-G-G-UNIT (g for gaper of course) when Thrashador and Fishgrrrrrrrl skinned on up. Saturday PM was spent chillin at camp, tippin back some OLD E, and shootin the shizzy. Later in the PM we began to watch an amazing storm form to the south of us. We also had word from Camilo that he was enroute from the TH. Within an hour, that amazing storm was at our tent doorstep's and we were in for a real treat! For about 2 hours the flashes of lightning crashed all around us, and over the top of us, and the thunder shook our little nylon world. Luckily camilo and gang made camp before the worst of the storm hit. wow, big booms SUNDAY, NO TURNZ And the storm just didn't quit. Alarm went off at 4ish, but the skies were still socked in. FAHKIT, no b-top for these d00dz. Fortunately, the rains stopped for our skin out. The ski out was super quick, and we were back in the real world in no time. Looks like the MAN had been busy that morning. Even though the big plans of shredding massive ammounts of gnar gnar corn were not achieved, it was still a super fun weekend. It was nice to hang out with dem slicksters from PDX, sorry i was asleep when you got to camp camilo! Maybe next year we'll get some good weather for ski in.
  20. Nice work, thanks for posting the TR. Any pictures? What was the snow looking like on the NE side/Jake Lake approach?
  21. Yo Camilo- bluebird skies arrived last night, and its a perfect day today... ohh the humanity of it all.
  22. sweeetness, look forward to you and your pisco!
  23. http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=10&amp...amp;layer=DRG25 I like Matt's idea, that is a better spot for both mountains, and you don't have to slog your overnight gear up that last super boring 1 mile to the green lakes area. Corral Lake it is. I'll Have the FRS radio on chan 4:7 hit me up when you get in the area.
  24. FKNA! This is going to be a good weekend. Weather is looking perfect for freeze/thaw, and some of the sickest of all cc.com plabby's will be in attendance. SOME DETAILS: I'm personally planning on heading up eeearrrrly Friday AM, if someone(s) would like to hike in with me that would be awesome, email me if you are interested tcrawford/at/mtbachelor/com TRAILHEAD/APPROACH: The best way to access Green Lakes is via the Green Lakes Fall Creek trailhead. The trail head is located across the Cascade Lakes HWY from Sparks Lake.... signed very well, hard to miss. The trail is snow covered after 1/2 a mile, so skins/snowshoes would really make travel much easier. The trail is heavily traveled from last weekend so there is a solid bootpack/skintrack all the way to the basin. Allow 2.5->3 hours for the hike in, not a ton of elevation gain, but its going to be warm. CAMPING: I imagine there will be quite a few folks in the area this weekend, so normal spots around the lakes will be crowded. I'm planning on camping higher up on the Brokentop Side around treeline: http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=10&...amp;layer=DRG25 The lakes aren't fully melted out yet, so plan on boiling water. Fall creek is flowing so I suppose one could filter water from there, and some of the small streams off Brokentop should be flowing as well, so that route can be taken too. PLAN: Slogging up snow covered volcanos, rip gnar corn. Repeat. Perhaps everyone could bring a beverage so we could have a nice little bar out there too. I'm planning to head back out on Sunday, but i know a few of the folks are going to stay out Sunday night as well (I might have to do the same, but I really want to road trip down to Southern OR to get some on Monday/Tuesday). Don't hesitate to email/PM with any ?'s
  25. so i'm considering a more 'traditional' excursion for the anniversary this year. i'm wondering if anyone out in spray land has been on a cruise before and could provide some beta. good and bad comments would be appreciated... just looking for an extended weekend trip a little different from the norm (the norm being a road trip to a quaint B&B with hiking and such). gracias
