  1. taking a moment to reflect after opening day at snoqualmie pass. after a great day of skiing yesterday i was forced to stay local today. here's some observations some of you might find helpful if you come to the pass this year : 1. even though it's raining, snow still makes for hazardous driving conditions 2. the temperature on the sign at the best western is ALWAYS at least 2*C to warm. As far as i know it doesn't rain when it's -2*C 3. just b/c you have all wheel drive doesn't mean you can't get high centered (note to subie drivers) 4. corollary to #3: your little front wheel drive car will not make it up a steep hill w/5" of wet snow w/o snow tires and/or chains 5. the is cheaper at timewise than at chevron 6. just b/c there's snow on the road doesn't make it ok to walk in the middle of it so you can keep your feet dry 7. even if there aren't "no sledding signs" it's still stupid and unsafe to sled down a bank that lands you in the middle of a road. 8. it's really nice to offer to the chick who pulls your stuck front wheel drive car out of the snowbank 9. neon colored ski jackets from the 80s were ugly then, they're even uglier now. 10. riding the lifts to ski sorta sucks, it sucks even more when it's pouring rain, snoq. pass skiing sucks but damn is it conveniently located!

i may have to put my bunny picture back!
  3. yes accurately recorded is one thing, interpretation and reporting is another. it's amazing what you can do data and statistics depending on your motivation.
  4. i love the cascades b/c they're conveniently located
  5. no no no! i don't eat meat except for the fishies. and unlike fern i have hunted down bambi's big brother ernie the elk.
  6. me too...ok it was 1998 but it's been a while. fishies are nummy!
  7. come on! w/a name like that who'd be a better spokesperson? Yeah...overtime they tend to become introverted, shoegazing, types that are more comfortable hanging with their male buddies than having a conversation, let alone a relationship with a chick. This is particularly true if alpinism attracts them early in their development. Too much nahhh....they just don't know how to close the deal. buncha bloody whiners if ya ask me
  8. Or golf. like golfers get laid? oh wait....maybe they do Viagra rival Cialis to sponsor PGA Tour By Mark Jewell, The Associated Press INDIANAPOLIS — The makers of a new anti-impotence drug said Wednesday they had reached a sponsorship deal with the PGA Tour, staking out a marketing niche in golf to compete with rivals' deals in professional football and baseball.
  9. anyone going up thurs and/or friday?
  10. hey heY hEY HEY! you say that like it's a bad thing it's not like he's joined the mountaineers is it?
  11. how come you gave up the veggie diet? I started craving meat, thinking about meat, dreaming of meat, salivating when I saw others eating meat. After a year of thick headed denial I finnally admited that my body was trying to tell me something. I was in the valley and made reservations at the Mountain Room Broiler. I choked down a whole slab of rare prime rib. Back at camp 4 I think I managed to keep most of the people up all night with my pitiful moans and sounds of wretching. I have never felt so much pain as that given me by my insensed and tortured stomach as it tried to cope. By dawn the pain had subsided and I was able to uncurl out the fetal position. I made it down to camp curry for BACON and eggs just before they closed breakfast. guess i haven't reached that point yet. the smell of bacon is always enticing but the second i see it on my plate
  12. how come you gave up the veggie diet?

    Danger Warning Signals

    "hold my beer" "watch this"
  14. as though i needed a test to know that?
  15. you don't get old, pale, and flabby until after the second kid relax...you'll figure it out. you won't really know how you're going to feel about parenting, climbing, your job, sleep etc until after the little one arrives. babies have a way of dictating that is really impressive for something that's a mere 8lbs and has a very limited vocabulary. i quit climbing for a few years but that was personal choice and not entirely related to being a parent. if you and your wife communicate there is no reason that you can't continue to climb regularly. perhaps you'll need to postpone certain goals for a few years but i don't see a reason to abandon them.
  16. thanks for the comments. keep 'em coming. guess i should say it would be 2-3 year stint. i've never climbed or spent much time in/near laramie but i go to pinedale at least once a year and love it. mostly worried about the wind and winters.
  17. LMAO! he is a geek...now what?
  18. if only i had the technique and strength to go w/the tiny hands but i gotta admit i love it when the guys whine about the tiny finger locks...they're usually nice fingers even hands
  19. do you have tiny hands as in finger length or skinny hands/fingers? for some reason i have ridiculously skinny hands. cupped...maybe one or two and the then onto fists definitely. green camalot is perfect hands for me.
  20. right on the money w/BOC...the start is strenuous for me but goes reasonably well. the upper portion is some horrid combination of fists and whatever else i can jam in there kicks my ass libra first couple moves always get me a little but pretty much that's perfect hands for me. love that crack! that chimney is just funky...i haven't climbed it the same way twice and i think it's hard to grade an OW anyway sometimes.
  21. Huh? ok at least not for me...damn you boys and your big hands
  22. I thought the same thing while onsighting it. Linked it with the 2nd pitch of the route below it...climbed off the ledge, placed a piece, made a couple moves, downclimbed back to the ledge, climbed a little higher and placed another piece, went "damn, ain't gettin no easier, better punch it" and then two moves higher it's perfect hands...Ahhhhhh!. Second time I climbed it, knowing that fatty handjams are up there, and it's really a short pitch, it didn't seem like a sandbag at all. it is not perfect hands anywhere
  23. yep! ....and do you know how she turns on the light? opens the car door!
  24. leave the watch at home! great advice. i almost never run on pavement or through my neighborhood. always on trails or something close. i love to watch my the scenery change through the seasons on my regular routes. if i'm about to skip a run there's two things that i do. the first, put on my shoes, go out the door, start running. you can tell yourself that you'll only go for 10 minutes. usually i feel better after a few minutes and end up running much longer. if that doesn't do the trick, then i commit to doing some type of work out. even if you're not running you're maintaining the habit of working out daily.
