  1. We need someone with an artistic flair to draw us new map of North America showing the US (all 60 states), Mexico, and Quebec.
  2. I think that everybody would like to see artists compensated for their work. Otherwise, what incentive do they have for recoding cd's? People justify copyright violations on the basis that relatively little of the money they pay for a CD goes to the artist. Most of it goes to fat cat record company executives and their shareholders. Those guys are starting to hurt because piracy is starting to significantly cut into record sales. I don't know what the solution is, but don't expect to continue to get your entire recording collection for free anymore. It isn't fair to the artists.
  3. First it was DFA, then Dru, now it's Attitude. There no one, besides Iain, who comes close in .
  4. DPS, you have to remember that some people's eyes will glaze over if they see more than a small paragraph of text, without graphics. Dwayner knows this and exploits this knowledge to the fullest extent.
  5. Who needs giardia when we have Olestra and Meridia?
  6. OMG, I wouldn't want to get lumpy breasts!
  7. I was on a climb once on a really hot day and got leg cramps. One of my partners laid all the blame on the two cups of coffee I'd had that morning. I think it was more like being out of shape and not drinking enough water. This individual advised against even chocolate (eegads!).
  8. Caffeine is good because it is stimulant. It gets your heart rate up. It's also bad because it is a diuretic and can promote dehydration. Twight likes it. I need it. So in the balance, is it good or bad? And if good, then how much is good and how much is too much? For example, Twight talks about tailing off on caffeine consumption in the week before a climb so that a smaller amount has a bigger effect on the climb day (if I remember correctly). 9. Hiking is both a means to an end and an end in and of itself. Ridiculing those who are in the latter category is simply another form of chest beating by climbers who are having really slow days at work, or are unemployed and won't get their butts off the sofa to go climbing.
  10. Even lycra. Justified on the basis of wind resistance.
  11. It was Aaron Misiuk and his partner who's name I can't recall. Spent five days in the crevasse. The partner lost toes to frostbite because he had leather boots, whereas Aaron was wearing plastics.
  12. ...unless you are Schuldt riding your bicycle on city streets, then brightly colored jackets are cool.
  13. Here's one. When my wife was a kid, they'd hang out at the pier at Manhattan Beach, CA and bullshit while drinking soda pops. There was this one kid who never had any pop money and would always try to mooch a swig from other people's bottle. If anyone was foolish enough to comply, he would bottoms up the bottle and guzzle the whole thing down. Well, one day my wife and her friend decided they'd get even with the guy. They took an emply 7-Up bottle and filled it up with Wesson Oil. One of them pretended to sip from the bottle. When Jerko comes along and asks for a swig, they give him the bottle and as expected, glug, glug, glug. Bleckkk! Ha ha ha.
  14. This isn't a guessing game. If I had wanted to tell you, I would have.
  15. I'm on the floor and I come to just as someone yells "(name deleted) is passed out at her desk"! She had the coffee too. She had to stay longer in the hospital before her BP returned to normal.
  16. No, phenolphthaleine is not a highly toxic chemical. What I got would have killed me had I gulped the entire cup of coffee. I like my coffee scalding hot and sip it. One sip and I was on the floor. This particular chemical causes a precipitous drop in blood pressure, in fact it was used experimentally at one time for this application.
  17. Damn know it all peak bagger.
  18. Just from the gasp I heard out of AlpineK, I didn't need to look, to know he was shaking his head in disbelief. He figured this piker had done gone and earned himself a trip to the hospital.
  19. Since things are so boring around here, I've been trying to dream up something to draw some action. So what is the most malicious thing another person has ever done to you? I suppose this can include vandalism to your property as well as assault to your person. It doesn't include theft. It has to be an act deliberately purpetrated against you for no other reason than someone was angry at you and wanted to get you. I am sure that sisu suomi has many tales. We've heard what he has done to others (bosses for example). Now I am sure there are lots of bar fight stories, but that's not what I'm after here. In my case, the worst thing done to me was that several years ago I was poisoned with a highly toxic laboratory chemical. I don't think it was directed at me personally but at all members of my research group, since it was placed in a coffee machine. I passed out and was taken to the hospital.
  20. The mistake that Japan made was lowering rates too gradually. Now they can't lower them anymore. The Fed figured that with the tax cuts, they wouldn't have to go to a half point to get the economy turned around. Hope they are right.
  21. This may already have been posted somewhere on this site, but damn it's amusing: You Know You are a Trad Climber When My favorites: you see lots of sunrises on your climbing trips you say, "what?" when your leader says, "take!" you can wear your climbing shoes all day you enjoy guilt-free eating you don't know what your body-fat % is
  22. The prime rate went down a quarter point today.
  23. Since you asked, there are rules for competitive sport climbing competitions. USCCA_Rules_Handbook
  24. Sounds like you are using nothing but the best scientific methods and reasoning.
  25. With a temperature of 15 degrees F, which is quite plausible, and a wind speed of 60 mph, also quite possible, the Wind Chill Factor would, indeed be -30 F. So enough already! That is f'ing cold and it would be easy to get frostbite.
