  1. Since you asked, there are rules for competitive sport climbing competitions. USCCA_Rules_Handbook
  2. Sounds like you are using nothing but the best scientific methods and reasoning.
  3. With a temperature of 15 degrees F, which is quite plausible, and a wind speed of 60 mph, also quite possible, the Wind Chill Factor would, indeed be -30 F. So enough already! That is f'ing cold and it would be easy to get frostbite.
  4. The rules are there. While not everyone agrees on the rules, there are rules.
  5. You have heard of taboos. That is how they are born.

Except it sounds like "get yo' ice col' beeah, heeah".
  7. Yep, you nailed it TLG. Too bad many of the photo links didn't work.
  8. Unroped on Baker? He dodged many crevasses, And didn't fall in.
  9. Jim Nelson and Jim (or is it Lou) Whittaker are both balding, but beside that, what's your point?
  10. Doesn't one have to die first before becoming a saint? He might as well be dead for all the posting he has done lately (and for getting married).
  11. How about this one started by Scot'teryx on 10/20/02? "Where did you climb at rope up this weekend? " No pictures though. Thread
  12. I beg to differ. It meets all the criteria for a sport, even if it is't Dwayner's preferred activity. "An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively." Where is the bloody Doctor, you know, DFA?
  13. There ought to be a limit on the number of times one can recycle old photos.
  14. Both. It's all about having fun and showing off lycra.
  15. For the record it was an Alien, and thanks, Matt, for lending it to me. It saved me bloomin' arse.

Thinker, you are a wicked man.
  17. We gotta get one of those for Pub Club. It would be a blast.
  18. We had a really fun time at the Exit 32 crags last night with about 10 people. Afterwards we moved to the North Bend Bar and Grill for some nachos and beer. Home kind of late. Mattp took a bunch of good digital pics. Can't wait to see them. Oh, yeah, the participants (that I can remember): AlpineK, Matt, mattp, dryad, Never_summer, wayne1112, ctuller, Kevin, and catbirdseat.

I was climbing the rocks below the lookout at Mt. Pilchuck and looked up to see a peanut gallery of tourists peering down on me from the deck. One of them even offered up some route finding advice, "hey, I think it looks easier if you go that way" (pointing). BTW, I don't recommend that place as a climb. You might well reach for a hold and find broken glass.
  20. In Inuit society, when there was famine, or when it was necessary to travel in winter to find food, the old and infirm would sometimes commit suicide by removing their clothes and walking out into the night. It wasn't really the same thing as what the Hemlock Society is about. It was more about saving the family, by not being a burden. A horrible decision to be sure. In our land of plenty thank goodness we aren't forced into such an awful choice.
  21. That would be the way to do it, if we had the tools.
  22. Okay, I'll bite finally. Not a good option for trask, because: Can't take the boat with you. Can't take the house on the water with you. Can't take the kids with you. Can't take the girlfriend with you. Can't take cc.com with you.
  23. I won't touch this one.
  24. Dave and I will be there. I have some DEET if anyone wants some. The North Bend Bar and Grill has great nachos: a huge plate big enough for three for $9.
  25. To all you people making vicious comments about the judgement of others: if you climb enough, one day you will find yourself in a similar situation. You will find out how it feels to be criticized. My attitude is, "but for the grace of God go I." I'm not religious or superstitious, but it fits better than any other phrase I can think of.
