  1. I heard that Americans are getting so fat that soon only about 10% of us will be at an ideal weight. Therefore, climbers will be a minority with regard to their appearance. Soon we'll be regarded as skinny freaks, except for erik.
  2. The price is right.
  3. I used one once and thought that the response time was too slow compared to the F-1, the M-2 or the Tracker.
  4. Dustin, you've gone a bit overboard with the W mongering I must say. I mean, not even Fairweather is as dedicated to the cause as you.
  5. It sometimes takes up to 7 or 8 days for brain swelling to abate. It took that long when my son had his head injury. It been that long now, so let's hope he turns the corner really soon.
  6. Cracked, what makes you say that V-Threads are weaker than screws? I usually back up the two V-threads with a screw anyway, but the screw, not being under load, tends not to melt out as fast. Formaldehead, good advice.
  7. MattP, for turning me on to Darrington and taking us to Chumstick Snag. Dryad, for a good catch at Exit 32 Pub Club. Ade, for ropegunning my sorry ass up Dreamer. Trask, for wasting hours of my time - no wait that's not alpine is it?
  8. Hi Matthew.
  9. A worthless cat brings in a live rat. The cat had it's claws removed, but you'd think it would know enough to bite the rat's head off wouldn't you? As for the snake, it can find and kill a rat in a 20 x 20 room within five minutes. It's happened more than once. When we feed the snakes their usual meal of live mice, the mice barely hit the bottom of the cage before the snake is on it. It's dead in 15 seconds.
  10. Snakes make great pets. We have three of them. Whenever the cats bring in live rats, we just let one of the cornsnakes loose and it'll have the rat in minutes, then we just retrieve the snake (with bulge).
  11. Why should I care if those two crags are closed. I'm not a good enough climber to do any of the routes on them anyway. It seems strange though that the raptors pick only climbing crags. I think that there are many more of these birds than anyone is aware of. Don't get me wrong, I think everyone should respect the raptor bans, I just think that there will come a time that they will not be necessary. Let's hope so both for the birds and the climbers.
  12. might wanna re-check the asprin facts there cheif... I know what I am talking about. Who is the drug chemist around here? sorry guy i was thinking acetominophinwhich in cmobo with drinking gives some stout liver damage and also ibuprofen adn ucler possibilities with alcohol. but aspirin thins the blood, not good when drinking i would imagine... You are quite correct with regard to acetaminophen. Drinkers should avoid it altogether.
  13. One interesting thing she mentioned was that the only way they know about raptors on climbing crags is when the biologists are told about it by the climbers themselves. I say those climbers are sell-outs.
  14. Now you're talking. The autoblock should allow even two-fisted drinking.
  15. It seems logical that man made improvements should be made when impact and numbers reach some critical threshold. People are going to disagree on what that that point is.
  16. This subject came up at rope up. A wildlife biologist spoke on closures and I was dismayed to hear that climbers are likely to be displaced even if and when raptors are fully recovered and off the threatened list. Sounds like "charismatic megafauna" management to me. I think that wildlife management should be governed by both science and statute, but not by emotions. Comments?
  17. might wanna re-check the asprin facts there cheif... I know what I am talking about. Who is the drug chemist around here?
  18. Excuse my ignorance, but where is Voodoo wall in relation to Witch Doctor Wall?
  19. I never learned how to do it properly. I'm waiting for mattp to show me how.
  20. Yeah, I think that was right before I used ALL my blue bags for the trip! Mine, this year: On J-berg, hearing Caveman yell up, "Nathan just took a 30-footer!!" I couldn't see what happened and I immediately imagined the worst. It all worked out and we learned to rappel off of shrubbery!!! Is there a trip report for that one?
  21. Sounds like semantics doesn't it?
  22. Whatsa matter? Scared of snakes? Who's afraid of snakes? Not me.
  23. Most hangovers are the result of dehydration. Drink a lot of water and take two aspirin. Aspirin acts as an anti-diruetic. It actually helps your body retain water.
  24. A lot of times people are interview and make comments that are clearly faceticious and the journalist publishes them as though they were not. I don't know whether that is the case here, but it might be.
  25. Consider using a couple of vee threads equalized for your top rope anchors rather than a screws. Vee threads take longer to melt out.
