  1. The only difference between the Denali Evo and the Ascents is in the binding and the price- $40 more. I wrote them an e-mail a year ago telling them the Ascents should be beefed up some, but they use all the same basic parts as the Classic.
  2. Look in the book to find out what is proper tension. Too much is bad. I can lead to premature bearing failure.
  3. Bromelain is a protein. Proteins under normal circumstances cannot cross from the digestive tract to the bloodstream without first being digested. It may be that Pineapple helps tendonitis, but it is unlikely that the mechanism is it's proteolytic activity at the site of inflammation. More likely some other mechanism.
  4. The drive out to Chumstick Snag was really beautiful. The vine maples were turning all sorts of colors.
  5. If the belt is tensioned properly and still slips then it may be that your power steering pump is bad and needs to be replaced.
  6. They sell what people buy, I guess.
  7. I couldn't have said it better.
  8. Erik, it would be a better world if everyone did that.
  9. Oooooooh. D-d-d-dwayner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. No, he wouldn't be the same trask, would he?

There's a good reason why many get plastered at weddings. It's a survival mechanism.

Could someone please send him one of those gremlins with the middle finger sticking out? Please.
  14. Here's a non-classic: North face of Pilchuck.
  15. Very good. An enjoyable read.
  16. Chad had some great photographs. Whether or not you approve of speed climbing, the mountain photos made the show worthwhile. You should have been there.
  17. Ummm...if I'm reading this e-mail correctly, he's no longer in the army. He's the deputy undersecretary of defense. Hanging with our buddy Rumsfield and telling the military what to do! Scary!!! He's in the Government? Good Lord, I mean jeez...aw shit.
  18. Trask, I believe that neutered means castrated. I think you mean vasectomized. At least I hope you do. I know it is a fine point, but I can't believe no one made the distinction.
  19. Generals should shut up and let politicians put their foot in their mouth. The military's job is to carry out orders of the President and members of the elected government, not determine policy. This guy isn't going to survive long in the secular US Army, if he keeps this up.
  20. Nisqually Ice Fall or maybe the Ice Cliff. Triple Couloirs I haven't thought of a third yet.
  21. I was crewing on a Catalina 27 sailboat in the Newport Beach to Ensenada Yacht race back in the '80s. We were ghosting into Bahia de Todos Santos on a light shorebreeze. You could smell the dry grass smell of the hills. It was kind of nice after the nearly odorless seabreeze of the previous day. As we approached the northern outskirts of Ensenada a most foul stench assailed our sea-sensitized nostrils. It had to be a pig farm or a rendering plant. The smell was like a combination of urine-fermented manure and decomposing entrails. You don't forget a smell like that. Despite the smell, we arrived in harbor and found a nifty spot to anchor amongst 40 and 50 ft yachts. WTF? We thought we were in the wrong harbor. Where were out competitors? As we were putting the sails away, two Catalina 38's motored in and anchored. They were three classes faster than us and owed us something like two hours on handicap. We were pretty happy about that. Turns out we were first in our class of 35 boats.
  22. I their mind, they figure, "who would want to walk a road?"
  23. We don't know any speed climbers from Portland, do we?
  24. The slideshow was great and so was the beer. My thanks to Feathered Friends for being a good host.
